Don’t think Bob’s new signings will save him. He could sign 10 strikers and still only play with one up front ( mind you, Lukaka is a good un ), Barry is pants and Macca is not as effective ( careful choice of word here ) as Fellani.
But everybody is watching to see how Bob gets on. And you’re right – Lukaku is a good un!

I am interested in how Martinez gets on. It’s just that I’ll be happy to see him succeed.

I think that possession is important, but it is just one of the factors that decide matches.
Logically, the opposition cannot score while you have possession. However, the nature of football is that you give possession away. And if you give it away in front of your own goal, it is likely to lead to an opportunity for the opposition to score.
But if you have 67% possession and win 27 corners – as Celtic did last night – then you can consider yourselves very unlucky to lose. The Greenock Morton manager, however, thought that his side deserved to win. They won’t win many matches with statistics like that!

We’ve already seen the limitations of the squad. It’s difficult to turn out a single strong team at the moment. And frequent games make further injuries more likely.
Coyle should decide his Championship team and rest these players as much as he can in other games. But it’s going to be a difficult time for us all.

Martinez recognised this too. He introduced squad players into the team for cup games and saved the first team for Premier League games. There were large numbers of complaints here about this practice, and posters urged him to turn out stronger teams.
Last season, we survived the early rounds and emerged to have a long run to the FA Cup Final. Just as Martinez feared, the squad proved too thin to compete in two competitions.
And yet, some fans continue to blame Martinez for relegation and abuse him for leaving us holding the FA Cup but playing in the Championship – the ingrates!
