Marlon King better than Jason Scotland? Well that settles it, bring back Mark Hilditch. ;)
Memory of us getting relegated with 1200 fans, when was that then? I seem to have lost that one.As for keeping hold of players, have you ever heard of such a thing as player power? When a player wants to move then it inevitably happens, there is not much a club can do apart from get the best price. Everton with Lescott being the latest example. Whelan does that very well in my opinion. Also there is the fact that an offer comes in that is too good to turn down, such as Valencia..Palacios..Heskey etc.. Even Utd couldn’t hold onto players this summer.
And i dont know where you get the embarrassment thing from.. we are in the 5th season of the Prem, even though we are tipped for the drop every year. We are run within our means. Mongs like you may call Whelan every name under the sun for no reason, but i am happy with the way the club is run. Ask the people of Luton or Bournemouth if they would like a chairman like ours.
Why don’t you buy the club and put millions into it if you are so clever.
You dont remember us being relegated and getting 1200 fans, youre obviously a lifelong fan.

Bit of a difference to Lescott, how much did we get for the lad Dave Whelan valued at £12m and who wasnt for sale anyway again?
No problem with seeing anyone go when they go, I remeber on this board Cattermole not really being that good as soon as we had sold him.
The Blinkers, once there on ya just cant get em off cont?
I don’t think ive ever come across a more negative bunch than my own set of fans. Thankfully Griff you’ve already put a lot of good points across.Seriously, what do all the Whelan haters really want? He’s took us from the brink of extinction in the bottom tier up to our 5th season in the Premiership, something even far more established clubs such as West Brom & Birmingham can’t achieve on bigger budgets. Were a small town, a small club with a fairly weak fanbase in comparison to others and we’ve been holding our own in arguably the best league in the world for 4 years. I remember when we could only just do that in Division 3. The difference between then and now is quite surreal.
Sure, we are clearly trying to make profits by selling out best players which from the fans pov isnt what we want to see, but this scouting system is good for the club on the pitch short term (provided we can keep finding them) and great for the club off the pitch long term. It beats bidding for players like Gavin McCann and Lee Carsley anyway. Add to the fact Whelan is trying to get us out the red, something most numpties in Wigan don’t realise seeing as they have no education, never mind business sense. Without trying to sound negative, we will get relegated one day, just as all clubs our size do eventually, so id rather see us without any debts and immediately be able to push for a return as apposed to a Leeds situation. With money having ruined football below the big 4/5 there’s only so far we can go, as bad as that sounds.
Right, so he took us to premier league and your happy with that? What happens now makes no difference, he took us to premier league so thats it. What do you want? Dont you want to see the club progress? Dont you think after 3 consecutive relegation battles we should be going somewhere?
Theres only so far we can go, but putting your players and managers in the shopping window, thats not too far. You would rather see us relegated with no debt than try to achieve what you pay your money for. Do you think we will pull the crowds in by advertising what you just posted, ”were only a small club so will get relegated.” Well if thats your ambition, no wonder the atmosphere at Wigan is crap. :?To be totally honest, apart from Bramble none of them look great. We are now having more players leaving, we are playing a lad who has publically said he wants to go (Scharner) in defence and our forward line is seriously lightweight, apart from Rodallega we have nobody you could call a striker.
Nothing we can do about it? Hes under contract, so unless we release him, he goes nowhere. A sad state of affairs when we cant keep hold of people who wouldnt have even made our team before Whelans transfer dealings.
Looks well Stoke are building their team with quality and were spending copper on trash. Look out Derby, we are about to kick you out of the record breakers book. :(
We will be left with nobody in a bit, but as long as Whelans happy thats alright.
This is going too far now, what a mess.
Give the mon is due, he con spin em!
… how many of the anti-Whelan brigade were once an employee of the great man and are now venting their spleen at him because he wouldn’t pay them £40k per week to turn out cheap trackies.Just a thought, but I bet there’s a few.
Whelan is the best, he is actually quite sexy, what he has done for the club will never be forgotten, we are more than happy with a relegation scrap, we dont want quality players, what does it matter if we sell the team, who cares about cups any way, theres only one Dave Whelan.
Wouldnt be lied to and conned.
Seriously, go and watch Chester then, you clearly hate being here.[/quote]
If I hated being here I wouldnt go to games for years, have a season ticket etc. My love for the club doesnt mean I should love the bloke running it. We here about the debt the club as and how we dont make money, so Whelan put Lindsey on the board of directors. You couldnt make it up.
You realised 75% of the team had never played together. And what about Blackpool.
Headlines in todays papers say it all, Blackpool Reserves 4-1 Wigan.
Meant to be premier league players and we cant beat championship team who hasnt won this season playing its reserves. Yes, great.
