It’s Barrow till the end of season. I’m not bothered who is put in charge (well bar Coyle) just as long as Joyce were gone.
If we go down its not down to Barrow its down to the mess Captain Chaos has left us in with umpteen unfit loanees clogging the wage bill up when it could have been used to bring in someone who could have actually contributed to helping us get out the muck were in.
Me thinks Graham Jones will get an approach in the summer. I’m sure at some point he’ll want to break off from Martinez”s apron strings and have a go himself.
It’s not like he doesn’t know the club and no lack of experience. The only problem was ,
it was a month too late
its official he’s gone ;-
Thank God I would just like to wish him al the best in the future and good luck elsewhere thats if he hopefully goes
butI can’t thank him for what he’s given us which was a miserable few months of torturous football
My view is, fans should not dictate who and when they want a manager by staging protest, this is not the way to go.
We don’t really need things like that, whats going on on the pitch is enough and speaks for itself and hopefully this will dictate Joyces position as manager. The problems is, has Sharpe got the nuts to use some of the Yanic money to get rid ?. I personally think that Sharpe thinks Joyce could do us a job in Div 1 hence the reason he hasn’t gone already.Only time will tell if he can or cant do us a job in a division below but if you were to ask me my opinion which is based on fact and information gathered from results and performances on the pitch he should be long gone.
With Div1 now looming ever so closer on the horizon and signs that Joyce will retain his job next season we also face the problem of:-
Our annual summer 15-20 player clearout so its a re-build from scratch once again,
Championship and parachute payments all gone,
Best players like Burn sold on,
And a manager who basically isn’t up for the job were driving downhill on Diarrhea Drive in 5th been laughed at all the way.
If we do hit a new all time low since moving to the DW which (I prey to God that we don’t) I won’t be holding the manager or his players accountable I’ll be waving my fist at the board of this club with my shouting “We all told you so” so do the right thing before the whole thing snowballs out of control. Get rid of Joyce, put the backroom staff in control till the season ends and hope and prey there’s an uplift in the players spirits so we can try and change things around, then , only then bring someone in to sort the mess left behind.
Most fans are resounded to going down, that’s not the problem right now what’s not acceptable is, !!”HOW!!” that’s pishing the vast majority of fans off !!!!!!!!!!
I know one thing whatever fan base you have built up will slowly drift away
I remember the Springfield days and the “loyal 2000” lets not heyThis is for the “Who would we get in ?” brigade I can name at least 4 I would be talking to right now :-
http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/trainer/verfuegbaretrainer/statistik/?statistik=189&plus=0If Reading & Leeds have cemented a play-off place, then we might get something from those games. Prior to that:
Villa – Draw
Newcastle – Loss
Ipswich – Win
Rotherham – Draw (they’ll be down and playing without pressure)
Barnsley – Draw
Brighton – Loss
Cardiff – WinThe midfield was a different midfield on Saturday from our regular trio with MacDonald , Morsey and Power all missing and it didn’t make a sod er difference. These players cannot play the Joyces way which is ?, don’t lose. Your predictions were obviously ale fueled, I will correct your errors;-
Villa – lose, Villa are back in form winning 4 out their last 5 with a good win over high flyers Sheff Weds
Newcastle – lose, Newcastle will go up and are in the top 3 teams in the division,
Ipswich – draw, Ipswich have drawn 8 out their last 10 and only lost 1 drawing 6 of them 1-1,,,will be 0-0
Rotherham – lose, bit of er bogey team for us , no matter how sh*t they play we always play to a level just below them
Barnsley – lose, Barnsley always score and as the Bristol City manager said “I never thought Wigan would score so if we scored I knew we would win the game” 1-0 to Barnsley
Brighton – lose, more chance of me winning the UK Lottery, Postcode Lottery and Euro Lottery all in the same week,
Cardiff – lose, my first pick when we sacked Caldwell was Warnock purely on the basis he knows how to resurrect a sinking ship. Did a miracle job on Rotherham and now steered Cardiff to safety. Cardiff have only lost 2 in their last 9.
you reckon 8 pts ? you need to see the nurse at work and p*ss in a bottle. If we get 2 pts I will be over the moon, 8pts ?, I drink what your drinking.
The simple matter of fact is, with Joyce were going down. I pointed out my reason when we first appointment him. Managing an under 21’s and then a Championship side at the age he is is too big of a jump.
It’s like comparing a rally driver to an F1, similar but totally different and, he was a “coach” not a manager at Utd. Is Neil Warnock a manager or a coach ? manager. He employs coaches and staff to get them fit and tactically ready for a game to his instructions. He then picks the team and motivates the players and gets their mindset ready for a game.Joyce ?, sorry but your just not cut for it or you wouldnt have had such a long time away from League management.
Good managers analyze the opposition and tactically try to target their weakness’s. Joyce uses the one for all rule for every game, ” All pile in the midfield and try not to lose this one”Sharpe has made 2 fundamental mistakes when letting Joyce put pen to paper, a 3-1/2 year deal for a guy with very very little “management” experience and secondly, sticking with him when you can clearly see he’s not cut out for the job no matter how much time he’s had.
It’s been a very hard learning curve for Sharpe, a guy with Latics at heart but tbh enough is enough regardless if we go down. The fans are not split on this one, you will be very hard pushed to find anyone to side with Joyce and his skillset.
When Martinez took over fans were split, some for some against. Some were against him because we were losing too many games while playing the new system but,,, and a big but, there was a method to his madness. Boyce as a wing back ? rolling the ball out to the ….but at least fans could see what he was trying to achieve whether in their mind it was right or wrong.
Joyces tactics ?, basically there is non, it’s as tactically poor as I have seen. I can honestly say the only thing that has come out of it is the constant pressure has made Dan Burn a good selling asset for the drop. But I would like to point out 1 last thing, some of the players at Wigan are simply (quite a few as well) not good enough and that’s a fact. Div1 yes, Championship no. This will be proved next season when we yo-yo back up from a division that bores the breast of me.
We need a clean slate, new manager, new backroom staff and huge squad clearing. Every new manager we’ve signed of late must be met with the backroom staff saying, “Errrrr, awreet pal, this is how we do it at Wigan, look and learn”. We need a full overall and a breath fresh air blowing into all parts of the club.
I never thought Coyle could be topped as the No1 worse tics manager of all time but step on up to the podium Joyce the trophies all yours to keep for life. There’s more organisation making a pizza
A good businessman reacts and reacts quickly when things go wrong just to try and steer the ship away from imminent danger. Sharpes loyalty to his decision in signing Joyce for 3_1/2 years will cost us our place in the Championship. You may call the venkiboys up Blackburn but it’s worked, 9 pts from a possible 15 and not lost in 5 ?. Warnocks the same steering Cardiff away to safety.
Sharpe if your reading this do the right thing and if you are a Tics Mon at heart you know it makes sense.. Release us,Joyce and the players from this pain and set Joyce free as it’s clearly not working. enoughs enough hey.
If you don’t ? Then you stand to lose alot of fans. Remember all the hard work the club put in while we were in the Prem building up our home town fan base will be thwarted. We’ll have the next generation of young fans growing up believing 0-0’s are the norm and everybody plays in the middle.
And Sharpe if you think it can’t get worse ? you keep hold of Joyce because Div2 is an ever growing possibility for Wigan. I didn’t take us long last time round to go from Prem to Div1 and we weren’t as bad as thisProblem is not joyce but the person who employed him thats where the buck ends._.Thats the fxxxk up
Last season, sharpie could do no wrong. This season has been a disaster. Hope he learns from this.
We all make mistakes even Big Dave made some p*ss poor managerial calls. Sharpes made a mistake now let’s see how big of a man he is. He needs to stand up, hold his hands up, no appology needed and just sack the guy.
3- 1/2 years of this ?..sorry but no. If you don’t get rid people will walk away in the droves and the club will be in the biggest financial sh”tpit ever.We keep harking on about Joyce but I can only name 4players I’d keep and 2 of those will be gone when we go down.
Unless we get it right I worry for the future of this club, seriously worry we’ve more new faces arriving every Aug and Jan than the strawberry pickers have up Southport in the height of summer…Jump on the back of the tractor , were going to the DW to sign, shift up there’s no room !!
So there is a school of thought that the performances don’t matter so long as we stay up and commercially that stacks as it’s more money.
That way entails a cautious business minded approach the very epitome of what we have been seeing over recent weeks.
BOLLOCKS to that.
Football and latics is more than that, some of the most emotional times of my life have revolved around swashbuckling football, particularly expansive wing play and attacking football. Even in the dark days some 20 years ago we played as if we wanted to win nearly every game. It was entertainment.
I don’t care weather Joyce stays or goes, I’m ambivalent about sharpy and the board, but I am feverishly supportive of attacking entertaining football.
Lets have our Latics back.
If we are to go down then we should go with a fight, not this simpering back footed draw/borefest.
If we carry on as we are it is a sad travesty to our players who are better than this, and an insult to the beautiful game.Well said, that man !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But what do you do when your players are as bad as your manager ?. I bet Bogles been run over a few times crossing roads cause he never looks left for right before going forward…ffs. I’ve never seen a guy stand offside so much in my life !! is he a Ben Turpin impersonator ?.
Though the manager has to carry a fair proportion of the blame you have to also point the finger at some of the players. Against Bristol they couldn’t make a 5yrd pass go in a straight line and some have lost the knack to pass a ball forward.
Big Dave is a football man at heart, he needs to have a word in young Sharpies ear and let him know that what Latics played today is not classed as football or entertainment.Sharpe has a slight problem there, a 3-1/2 year deal.
Is Joyce an ex market trader ?, cause he must have bent Sharpes ears with magical bulls””t in his interview.Got to say, in all my years this has got to be about the worse player and manager tactics combination I have ever had to sit through.
For me, some of the players are not good enough, I mean Hanson’s header back near the end can be seen replayed tomorrow on any Sunday pub league pitch.
Perkins back pass free kick when the box was fully loaded is not Joyce decision its a clueless Perkins.
Do the right thing Sharpe,
Use some of the Yanic money and pay this guy off and let’s move on and call it a hard lesson learned giving someone a managers job with very little managerial experience, next time don’t get your wires crossed:-Managers and coaches are not one of the same.
The majority of abuse leveled at Joyce at the moment concerns his defensive tactics, in particular his decision to use 4 centre midfielders across the middle. I think he’s damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t. If he plays one upfront he gets stick, if he plays two upfront he gets stick. Grigg should play every game in the opinion of some – despite offering nothing all season. Joyce is obviously aware that we are a poor team and is wary of setting up to be attacking. The reason for this is obvious: the same thing will happen that was happening under Caldwell. Better teams will deal with our threats and then easily pick us apart. At least Joyce has made us difficult to beat. The defence has been solid since he came in and across that unadventurous and boring midfield we have at least some players who will get stuck in and fight for the ball. It’s boring to watch but there is a reason for it. He has taken the calculated risk that if we play this way we can pick up enough wins to survive. Obviously this isn’t happening and his hand is going to be forced into taking more risks – this will probably happen this week. What those risks will be isn’t clear. Do we start with Obertan on the wing? Bring Weir back in? Gilbey could return in the centre of midfield? Grigg upfront with Bogle? I can’t see any of those options being a magic remedy. We have struggled all season because the options available to both managers have been poor. We have a weak team that isn’t, despite all their efforts, good enough.I think give the guy a chance. If we go down let him rebuild in the summer and try again. These are difficult times for the club and things will get harder post parachute payments. We need to stick by a manager and give him some time. Chopping and changing every six months will never work.
If you play one up front that forward needs either width or attacking midfielders to support him Joyce doesn’t seem to think so hence the stick he gets. His sole ambition is to stifle the oppositions midfield. As long as this happens and we don’t lose then that’s OK.
Problem is , we do.If you bring in better quality players on loan in Jan make sure their fit to play or at least a week or so off. Who did their medicals ? especially Bruce, They want a word in their ear. 5weeks in Obertan is still weeks off, pointless signing. Weir (Joyce’s golden harse at Utd) admitted himself he is out of shape due to the lack of football which doesn’t help our cause one iota which showed by constantly giving the ball away.
Quote Joyce on signing Obertan;-
“He adds great experience to the squad and offers us another option in the wide areas.”But a few weeks later he tells the press I see him as a forward and brings him on the other week as a forward,
Is Hanson better than Flores ? so why ?,
Every player we pay coin for we loan out, then, straight away bring loan players in , why ?It’s not all Joyce’s fault , the guys upstairs are making just as many fook up’s but for me, the tactics don’t suit the players so you either get rid of every player
or
the manager
In all my years watching Latics he has got to be about the worse manager we’ve ever had and I’ve seen some tripe. At least in the past we might of have lost through stupid individual mistakes or the odd stupid managerial decision or plain old lack of quality but still in those dark times we still managed to look like a football team trying and score the odd goal and fighting all the way.
The way we play is about as bad as you get, leaking, not scoring , losing regular and not once ounce of skill along the way. Then finally, I have always thought our squad was up there in this division but now I am questioning that and glad to see Barrow has said the same.
Whatever happened to Bruce? He came to the club recovering from an injury, whoever made the decision to take him on wants sacking. I don’t know any employer who would employ someone he who is ill or injured
