28 May 2010 at 1:53 pm in reply to: Transfer news, paper talk, who you want – get it all in here #34995Scunthorpe chairman Steve Wharton has refused to concede defeat in his efforts to keep talismanic striker Gary Hooper at Glanford Park.
The 22-year-old, who scored 19 goals in 31 league starts this season, is widely expected to leave the club this summer with Middlesbrough, Wigan and Celtic among the clubs rumoured to be interested.
But, despite admitting the club have received offers for the player, Wharton insists a move is not inevitable.
“There are four or five clubs showing an interest in Gary,” Wharton told the Scunthorpe Telegraph. “We have had some bids too but these have been turned down.
“If someone comes in with an offer we cannot refuse, and providing it is a club that Gary wants to go to, then something might happen. But I cannot second guess what will happen.
“I am not resigned to losing Gary this summer – but I would not be surprised if a transfer does happen.”
Wouldn’t want this guy to sign for us…He is shocking

Benyahia has been in impressive form for the Swedish outfit this season and it seems his performances have not gone unnoticed.
Wigan and Birmingham are among those to have been linked with the 20-year-old midfielder and are thought to have sent scouts to watch him in action.
Brommapojkarna director Ola Danhard told Aftonbladet: “I noticed that some English clubs were here. But I have no idea what they were looking at.”
But the English clubs could face competition for Benyahia’s signature if they decide to step up their pursuit, with other teams also joining the chase.
Benyahia said: “I know there are clubs, like Ajax and Sporting, that are looking but I try not to think about it.
“There was a scout from a Dutch team who spoke to me after a game. It’s supposed to go via the sporting director so that’s probably were it is now.”
Benyahia is nevertheless keen to remain with Brommapojkarna until the end of the current Swedish campaign, which runs from spring until autumn.
“I owe it to BP to stay for the remainder of the season,” he said.
Welcome to the premiership Blackpool!
