When it comes to buying players and, especially forwards for clubs like Wigan it’s all about taking the gamble when buying.
Will he be any good at Championship level ?, if we knew that we wouldn’t be able to afford him it’s as simple as that. Get the cash down, take a punt and pray he hits 15-20 goals on before the seasons out. Without the goals were dead and buried 0-0″s won’t save us.

15-20 goals in less than half a season!! That’s some ask is that!

Get on a 4-0 to Utd, seemed to be the score most times we played them !

You don’t have to cycle back do you as I would be in no fit state to do anything after a visit there, never mind cycling!

From an outsider looking in with no bias i will throw my view in.

Firstly a massive problem from when i was a ST holder was the ‘jobs for the boys’ mentality that engulfs the club behind the scenes from the boardroom down. Barrow and company need clearing out asap if The Latics are to move forward.

I actually think Joyce has the makings of a very good manager and the first transfer target (albeit controversial) is a dynamic and skillful midfielder in Ravel Morrison. He has been dealt a shitty hand in having to inherit a squad full of over the hill and over hyped players signed by another ‘jobs for the boys’ type appointment (although i also think Caldwell should have been given to the end of the season to rectify it)

The appointment of a chairman in his mid 20’s in my view is just ridiculous. He might be a Latics fan but he doesn’t know what is best for the club and it’s just a decent way of Whelan keeping his hand in. He will be off when grandad tells him it’s time to go.

I cannot believe fans have not yet realised that saying ‘we are playing well, we will come good, we deserve better’ doesn’t wash. After 4 years of saying that with Martinez it has carried on ever since. It’s like some people set very low standards for the club and expect them to be in the lower leagues. You have to earn the right to win and that side is extremely, extremely poor. It’s devoid of any skill or pace bar Yanick. Far too many clumsy loan deals and freebies of players in their 30’s. It smacks of what Blackpool started doing after their time in the Premiership came to an end and now they are near a sticky end. Very similar chairmen in my opinion. Like i said, i think Joyce has the credentials but he is working for an amateur chairman and he won’t spend any money. I can’t see Wigan Athletic getting out of trouble this season and then anything could happen.

            Few questions/points Yosser.

Q – Having been a ST holder why are you no longer even a fan?

From a squad of 27 (if you count Bogdan) only 7 are in their 30s with 4 of them 30 or 31. Hardly an ageing squad.

Q – Seeing as our budget is the 16th biggest in the league with some clubs paying 5 or 6 times PER PLAYER than us, where do you expect us to be?
Q – Should we risk the future of the club like Bolton and Blackpool as you mentioned and spend massively despite getting crowds of 9k and having shirts from 2 seasons ago in the club shop still?[/quote]

Both Blackpool and Bolton have had the piss taken out of them by the people at the top, as are Blackburn now but if you look at how far Burnley have come over the last few years then maybe we have something we could learn from them! Bournemouth are another small club who spring to mind! Since we were relegated from the Prem I personally think there have been some bad business choices !

To be fair The Championship is a lot more competitive and the sacking of Lee Johnson also had the desired effect for the Barnsley last season! As for us, I have said several times that Joyce will need several transfer windows but with the current status quo even the most positive fan would find it hard to muster up a modicum of hope! Time will tell!

The problem is we are not good enough for this division, it really is that simple. We got relegated had a decent League One squad that won a pretty poor division that particular season and then didn’t strengthen in accordance when we came back up, it ain’t rocket science! Now let’s see what sort of money is available and see if Joyce can bring in his own players to replace the substandard players in our squad ( About 80% ) it will take a few windows to achieve this mind!

After seeing Huddersfield twice in around a month, I can say that they are absolutely nothing special. Had they not bagged points early in the season, they would definitely be banging around with us, Blackburn and Rotherham.
The only difference between the two very poor sides is they have that one consistent guy on the pitch that can keep it all together, in their case Hooy (he was best player on pitch in both games.
We on the other had have nobody that performs consistently in a central midfield role to steady the ship, or to push on when they see blood.
I thought Gomez was going to be that kingpin this season, but he has hardly got a sniff.

Hooy are you talking about? Do you mean Mooy? He was everywhere that lad! ;)

I can’t really see how we supposedly set up for draw when you have a starting line up including Jacobs Wildschutt Powell Jacobs Gomez and Grigg.

If you saw any surging runs or positive defence splitting passes from the above then you were watching a different game to me ! Huddersfield were poor today yet we didn’t test their keeper at all !

If you set up for a 0-0 at home then expect to get your pocket picked now and again!

Lost to yet ANOTHER individual mistake. Doesn’t matter who the gaffer is if we keep gifting sides goals.

Was that Jacobs getting easily dispossessed thus putting us on the back foot, the back line for not closing down for the shot, the poor goal keeping or the lack of reaction apart from the goal scorer after the keepers howler?

Joyce will need a few transfer windows, unfortunately for him his initial window will have to work the oracle straight away! Five points from safety at the halfway point is not a good situation to be in!
