Quite a number of years I bought a newish industrial boiler out of a school or sports centre that was being demolished in Northernden, Manchester we had to take down the boiler house to get it out, while lifting some steel with a crane I got my finger trapped nearly chopping it off.

I went to Wythenshawe Hospital A&E for treatment, while in the x ray waiting area Paul Mcgrath came in and sat next to me, he had a swollen and damaged right hand, as sometimes happens in hospitals we traded information on our injuries and how they happened, seems he had been playing cards and drinking all night in a house on the Bench Hill Estate, a notorious rough council estate 20 or so years ago, and had got into a fight with someone and hurt his hand, hence the xray, he stank of alcohol but chatted to me friendly as anything.

I didn’t see him again after I went to have my finger stitched up. It was either a Thursday or Friday, Mcgrath played for Villa the day after, Villa and the press claimed he was playing in a special cast on his hand that he had broken when he fell in training.

I went to watch United at OT once and McGrath played the full 90 minutes. At the end of the game, I left sharpish as I wa smeeting someone in a pub in Sale to go some party or other. I made good time getting to the pub and when I walked in McGrath was already sat at the bar and was reportedly on his third pint.

You should read his autobiography – very dark.

During a conversation at our Thursday Night Football last week about my 5-4-Friday, we digressed to a Football XI of players known for addictions of some sort, or at least a very well documented liking for something they shouldn’t.

We came up with a decent team – if only you could keep them out of the pub/bookies/pharmacy!

GK – Peter Shilton

RB – Gary Charles
CB – Tony Adams
CB – Paul McGrath
LB – Kenny Sansom

RM – Paul Merson
CM – Bryan Robson
CM – Paul Gascoigne
LM – George Best

FW – Diego Maradona
FW – Jimmy Greaves

Manager – Brian Clough/Howard Kendall

Any improvements?

Apart from a quite ridiculous suggestion of Alex Ferguson, nobody has managed to come up with anyone that we hadn’t already considered. However, I should probably have pointed out that selection for the team was based on a vague formula comprising a combination of quality of player and level/notoriety of alleged addictedness. That’s why Roy Carroll/Warren Aspinall were considered, for example, but were ultimately rejected in favour of better players.

Manager has to be Alex Ferguson…
Why? You are seriously trying to say that he has a similar drink problem to Clough and Kendall?

A lot of older fans hated it and made their feelings known to the club and the club listened and binned it. Someone needs to make the club aware that the kids miss it and I am sure they will consider doing something about it.

As for complaining about Northern Soul, at least it is something that the town is known for.

a) No
b) Yes

I wondered which of our scribes would come up with that combination
Damn, I was waiting for someone to point out how ‘thick’ I was being ;)

”We can see you holding hands” ?? ban em all for life !! , and their mums and dads should be ashamed and fined £1,000,000. They should then be publicly birched before every home game in front of “Next” then salt poured in the wounds before been dragged onto the center circle were we can all throw fruits at them

Mr Cup Winners – you know your name should be Cup Champions, don’t you? ;)
Glad to see that some of our players realise what the word TEAM means.

There isn’t an ‘I’ in TEAM – but you will find an ‘M’ and an ‘E’.
There are three in Chris Griffin – no wonder I’m such a selfish bastard!

Was Roger injured today ?

He seemed well enough to go and watch Stoke v Arsenal today, I would have thought if he was a ‘team player’ he should have been cheering us on in our fine win at Forest.

Do you go in to work to cheer on your work colleagues on your day off?
I would even come to your work and cheer you on for 20 grand a week!

Please forgive me if I am mistaken here but, a Saturday afternoon at the beginning of March is not normally a day off in the life of a professional footballer.
I’m quite sure that whatever the reason for him wanting to go to Stoke, he went with his manager’s blessing.

Madness? But football is a mad world!

Statsbomb; Mistakes like this at Everton’s level are likely to yield a plunge in performance that takes years to dig out of, especially since the clubs around them (Liverpool, Swansea, Aston Villa, Southampton) suddenly seem really smart.

Liverpool are in a different financial league to the rest. They are willing to pay Suarez £200,000 per week. Even so, they have been out of the top four for four years.

Swansea won the League Cup, came through the Europa League and sacked their manager.

Aston Villa have flirted with relegation for two seasons. In January 2011, they paid £18 million, potentially rising to £24 million, to Sunderland for Darren Bent. He is now on loan to Fulham.

Southampton are one of the biggest spenders in European football. Their Swiss owner, Markus Liebherr, died leaving his daughter Katharina as owner. Chairman Nicola Cortese disapproved of her desire to sell the club and has now walked out.

Everton look a model of conservative management in comparison.

And if Everton, a club with Champions League ambitions, consider him to be a key member of their team, then no transfer fee and £50k per week isn’t really a huge sum for them to spend. I agree, the whole thing is madness but, in relative terms, I’m not sure that this is.

The fact that you personally might not rate Barry is irrelevant, I suppose. All depends on the value put on him by the manager.

Have you lot not thought that the reason for Jordi`s `upturn` in form is due to the fact he is playing in what is effectively the second division and has `found his level`.

Er, no… have you not thought that we have playing in what is “effectively the second division” all this season, not just the last 48 hours. Since when, our ‘fans’ have suddenly decided he’s OK.

in reply to: Gomez – Contract #128042

Perhaps if all those ‘fans’ that have been on his back and causing that loss of confidecne all f***** off, he might be more inclined to stay.

As the Squire says, if I were him I’d walk away without a second thought – if that’s what HE wants to do, of course.

in reply to: Nottingham Forest v Wigan #128041

I personally have always seen the best in Gomez, but any doubters as to his ability, must surely now be fully paid up members of the Jordi fan club. :cheer:

In truth Jordi is only ever one poor game away from becoming the devil incarnate again.
One poor pass, or one missed tackle, would probably be enough for some.

Couple of mistakes on this show last night. Boyce scored his 2nd league goal of the season yesterday. The commentator stated that having scored against blackburn earlier in the season he loves to score against lancashire opposition. Now, i was never good at geography in school, but even i know nottingham is not in lancashire.

Then talking about roslers signings – focusing on mc clean, who was signed by the shorts wearer at the start of the season.

& for some reason, yesterdays win was regarded as something of a surprise. Not sure how they came to this conclusion. We are the former premier league team who have kept the nucleus of our team from last season & with much better management are now playing to our true potential which was trying to get out under coyle but never did. Seems to me a case of lazy journalism & research coupled with IMO negative comments about our club yet again as though they dont want us to come back up.

Spotted the first two myself, but I think you’re being a tad paranoid about the third. Bollocks to ’em, anyway! We’ll crack on under the radar if we have to, it’s what we do best.
