Great initiative!

I’ll toot my horn as I drive past!! ;)

C’mon Griff why don’t you do the walk instead, we can advertise you are walking and sell rotten fruit for all folk you have insulted on here to throw at you, we’d make a fortune.
There is a better than even chance that I will be doing it, actually. No issue with the fruit thing either but I guess, given the “throwers” you have in mind, if their aim is anything like their football knowledge I should be perfectly safe – most missiles will land wide of the mark ;)
That’s what passes for a night out in Leyland ;)

By the way, there seems to be a distinct lack of Leylandi on here since we reverted to intelligent, non-childish posts. Go figure! ;)

Griff, driving thru Leyland tonight I saw some lads wearing Latics shirts throwing fruit at what appeared to be a cut out head nailed to a fence. It looked like they were practicing or summat ;) :cheer:
aye but it now gives them armchair and pub fans the opportuntity to spend there giro in the pub and not the ground again

Not sure that is so much of an issue with us as it is with other football clubs and, partcularly, the rugby. I get the impression that most people who want to watch Wigan Athletic actually go to the games, regardless of kick-off time.

Might be wrong, but it’s quite unusual ;)
think you are wrong on this one, get your tom jones record out. if i remember rightly it was rife when we were in the prem and pubs had it on them dodgy satelites. i ll let you know after the game amd i bet therell be others that will leave plenty behind in the pubs as they make way to the game
Yeah, but… there’s a difference between people who watch it in the pub just because it happens to be on but aren’t real supporters anyway (which is the kind I suspect you are talking about) and those who actively claim to support the team but don their replica shirt and settle down in the pub to watch (and I have seen many rugby fans do this).

Then again, I suppose the fact that I have never seen Latics fans do this is because I am at the match myself at the time!

*holds the door open for Tylders

    In I step!! ;)

To be fair, I did say in the other thread that I liked the way he wants to play the game & that I thought he was doing a good job so far – just that I feel it could be even better without so many changes from game to game.
I also said that I understood the argument for squad rotation but that I don’t see any other team that mnakes so many changes from game to game.
Obviously I haven’t read the full transcript of what was said yesterday, but from what I’ve read above he’s not said anything that has caused me to change my mind
I’ve never known anything yet to make you change your mind! ;)

You really are ruining this board Griff

    Trying my best, apparently ;)

Is the game likely to be called off? New storm to hit on Friday, given rail links to Cardiff are off what are the odds?

If we do play, think he will play McManaman, Gomez and Espinoza.

Seeing as they were three who never moved a muscle on Tuesday, I wouldn’t say that would be the greatest selection shock ever.

And, if we are talking league encounters, then surely BEFORE we met and beat Wednesday (for the first time in the league) yesterday, we had already beaten all (97) teams we had met (in the league) since joining the league?

I’ll crack on with some work now ;)

[desperately hoping I haven’t left a loop-hole for someone to jump into and exploit!]

in reply to: Another Stat #127210
A great stat tweeted by Latics fan inside the BBC Paul Rowley:

Wigan Athletic’s win at Sheffield Wednesday means they’ve beaten every team they’ve met – 98 in total since joining the League in 1978

Canvey Island? We played – and didn’t beat – them since we joined the league :S

    Welcome to Pedant’s Corner ;)

in reply to: Roslers points #127209
At 1.9 points per game we would be 4th under Roslers tally. Hes made a solid start given what came before him. Still think we will struggle to make the top 6 without a settled side in place but happy to be proved wrong!

Let’s see if he starts picking a settled side once we’re out of the cup on Staurday and the league is all we have left

in reply to: Meeting Uwe Rosler #127170
We have discussed how managers deal with press conferences on several occasions and so why does anyone think that this little confab will be any different !If you do want a serious question then ask him why he didn’t do his homework and watch the video of McManaman ripping a new arsehole out of Huddersfield in last seasons FA Cup tie, he might have been tempted to play him from the start had he watched that !

Because it isn’t a press conference is it? It’s a semi closed-doors chat with genuine fans of the club. Clearly, not every Tom, Dick or Phil can attend and if you think posing such a critical question in such a confrontational manner is the right way to go about this kind of session, then I think you’re being a bit naive. It’s exactly that kind of question, couched in exactly the kind of way, that will encourage Herr Rosler to say “f** that, I’m not putting myself in the firing line to have these guys rip the piss out of me when I could meet with professional media outlets instead and get my message across properly – like managers at every other club do”

But you knew that already, didn’t you? It’s exactly the sort of ‘sensible’ question that Jay wasn’t looking for.

Think your username then was V455Griff or summat.

Griff_v103 – name and seat number. My “office door” was/is always open but it was rare that anyone would pop in for a chat*

However, as i stated in the last post, When someone says something that you are strongly siding for you turn into ‘one of us’ and the academical hierarchy you take kind of goes out of the window.

We’ll have to agree to disagree slightly. I maintain I generally only launch childishly – and I freely admit that I do – at posters/posts that simply don’t deserve to be taken seriously, in my view. Let me explain.

People want this to be a serious deabting forum, yet we have supposedly grown-up people referring to the rubgy as “Thugby” or “fat mongs feeling other men’s groins” – I’d bollock my 9-year old for constructing such a moronic, unintelligent argument.

We have supposedly grown men referring to Dulham, Wet Spam and Blunderland.

We have people calling Whelan a tight old c***, despite the true facts of his investment in the club being laid bare on countless occasions. None so blind as those that will not see, as I have said before.

We have ‘fans’ devoting a 600-post threads to childishly sneering at a former, much-admired by most, manager without offering anything sensible ofher than he’s a f***** Judas and “he’ll have them in the bottom four before you know it” and not even giving up or conceding when they’re proved wrong time and time again. Fair play to WereGoingToBarnsley for persevering with that thread for so long, by the way, I saw my arse with it long ago.

It’s that’s kind of sneering, sarcastic, playground nature of some threads that get my back up and make me respond in kind. They don’t deserve any better. Yes, Wiganmon, that is aimed at you, amongst some others.

So, as I have, decided to cut out the childish, insulting, wind-up stuff if it clearly upsets some so much. Let’s see how grown-up those moaning really can be.

    Anyway, back to work!

    * yes, that was deliberately made to sound like my head is up my arse

Now I have asked the trivial stuff, keeping to the theme Griff observed –

Our previous manager Roberto Martinez enjoyed great success at WAFC wearing brown shoes with a dark formal suit on the touch line, has Mr Rosler any plans to continue that trend.

He’d be a fool not to!

in reply to: USheffield Wednesday game #127158

Hmmm, ‘cos he hasn’t been rotating the squad at all so far, as he?
