That could be because City were dire !! At the end of the day they shouldn’t have scored should they !

It never ceases to amaze me that when teams either lose or seen to be second best than us they classed as dire.

Just goes to show the luck some teams are getting. I watched tonight’s Everton game and Brum looked awful. Everton should have been out of sight but yet Brum get a point.

just read the section that states the 5 yellow card rule is subject to amnesty at the end of Feb, so GC as you rightly pointed out isn’t banned.

I’ve been a manager since my early 20’s and one thing I was taught by some wily owd yeds and still put into practice, is that you set your sights/ goals as high as you can. Invariably you will fail sometimes, but what you achieve will in the main be quite satisfying. Set mediocre goals and then fail, will probably lead to heartbreak.

If big Dave had seen his beloved team being a mid Championship team at best all them years ago, then we may now be on our way to a tricky away game at Exeter today or have a tough derby match at home to Bury.

I honestly still believe that Big Dave’s aspirations of seeing Latics in Europe [in his lifetime] is a reality.

The same people who laugh at this statement, are probably the ones that laughed at Whelan when he said he wanted a premiership football in Wigan.
I don’t particularly want all the dark boys to agree with me, its just how I feel inside.
No matter how negative people get on here, it won’t change my view, nor will it change it if we get relegated. So there!! :snooty:

If your target is merely to win as many games as possible and stay up, and you don’t manage to do that, then yes, you deserve to get fired, and no, it is not rocket science.
If your remit is more than that however, and it perhaps includes reducing the wage bill, helping sure up the finances, and develop a decent youth policy to bring players through, then maybe it’s not as clear cut as just avoiding relegation.

Tyldesley

You know full well what Martinez is trying to achieve on the pitch, and you know full well that to what extend he has achieved is another matter. I, however, like the fact that somebody has attempted to bring a more patient, European style of football to Wigan as that is the type of football I like. Again, I’ll reiterate before the ‘it’s sh7te football’ brigade comment, it is what he is trying to achieve.

Also, as stated above, he has introduced a system whereby the club buy young players and develop them. The Reserves squad bears testimony to this, and they are playing good short-passing football to boot.

That is what I like about Martinez. You asked for my
reasons – and there they are.

Swindon

The phrase I used was ‘not overly concerned’. Perhaps in hindsight it was the wrong phrase to use. Yes, of course I want the club to stay in the Premier League and play at the highest level possible, and if the club are relegated (which I still think/hope we’ll avoid), I would hope we’d be pushing to gain automatic promotion again.

What I won’t be doing if we go down is throwing my toys out of the pram or my season ticket at Whelan. I certainly won’t be sobbing hysterically or calling for the manager, the board, or the owner/tealady/groundsman to be sacked.

You’ve asked for passion, but if passion for some at our stadium includes booing your team off, cheering when a player is substituted, hurling abuse at your manager, and delighting at the prospect of relegation just to prove a point, then I’m not interested.

I’ll support the team how I see fit, and if we’re relegated, I’ll cheer them on next season to gain promotion again.

Just watched the West Ham Liverpool game.WHU players are faster, fitter, up for it more, tactically better, etc. I know a lot of people don’t like Scott Parker but he gives 100% effort every time he plays. I wish we had half a dozen like him.
Martinez has said all along that “he will take us to the next level” Well Bob that’s one thing you have got right this season. As for people on here saying we will have a decent Championship side!!! How many of today’s squad will be here next season?
In all honesty I can see us doing a Bradford City.
Thanks Bob, in your two year tenure you’ve ruined 10 years of hard work.

The words premature ejaculation sprung to mind when I read this post. Or perhaps knee jerk, chickens before they hatch etc. etc. Theres hell of a long way to go yet sunshine.
The way you described West Ham today could have also applied to our performance at Anfield and for 60 mins yesterday. Did you see that same Wet Spam team play at West Brom the other week. Great comeback but should have been 7 downs at HT. They are no better than us, neither are Blackpool, West Brom, Wolves, Birmingham, Fulham, Blackburn, Stoke and maybe 2 or 3 others. The fat lady may sing but not till May.

If some of you want to throw the towel in now, that’s your prerogative, but I have seen enough in the last 4-5 matches that still gives me hope that we will get out of this shytehole. :snooty:
lets discuss the last few games then to see where your positivity eminates from.

man utd 0-4
poor finishing woeful defending offered nothing after another of bobs amazing half time team talks.

bolton 0-1(fa cup)
granted it was the reserve/second string but we just showed a complete lack of any effort – remember winning breeds positivity.(but lets forget this one)

liverpool 1-1
despite this liverpool team being the worst that anyone on here can recall -they still managed loads of chances even though we managed to play keep ball for long periods a combination of poor finishing, the woodwork, al habsi and an off side goal gained us a point (how good were the scousers at w/ham today)

blackburn 4-3
blackburn opened us up at will in the first 15 mins should have scored at least 2 more goals before we even started playing – even so we were hanging on for grim life in the last 10 mins and a world class save from al habsi gave us our only league win since last year.

wba 2-2
after conceeding an early goal two set pieces put us in the driving seat by half time -after another rousing half time team talk latics came out a different side, and were battered by the baggies and probably the only bright spot of this season, al habsi gave us a point off a relegation rival in a must win game.

bolton 0-0(fa cup)
another game that will not live long in either set of fans memory, generally acknowledged as a poor game from two poor sides – it will go down in latics history as probably the last appearance of daniel deridder (although he showed up in frankie & benny’s for a meal after the game yesterday and my mrs and daughter swooned at his film star good looks)lets discount this one as well.

aston villa 1-2
nothing much of quality or ability to seperate the teams at half time, bobby got our players so motivated and up for the second period that we died a death until 10 minutes from time when a flook of deflection gave us some forlone hope – we actually gave it a go for that last 10 minutes prompting many to ask why we didnt do that in the previous 80 minutes.

arsenal 0-3
says it all really not one shot on goal all match and al habsi doubling his value in one foul swoop by having the game of his life and keeping down the score to less than spurs got last year.

i will give you a while to read a few match reports of the games i have mentioned, just to refresh your misguided memory – then you might want to come back to the forum and tell us where you “ have seen enough in the last 4-5 matches that still gives me hope that we will get out of this shytehole“
Fekin amazin that we draw against Liverpool at anfield and the best argument you can put forward is “its the worst Liverpool team…blah blah blah”
I suppose if we’d beat Man U on setdy you would have highlighted the fact that Rio, Giggs and valencia were out injured.
Yes sunshine I’ve seen plenty of positives in the last 4-5 games and whats even more encouraging is that we are only a couple of points from safety.
You wouldn’t see anything positive if the + side of a battery was walking towards you, holding a million pound cheque made out to Loudmouthblue.

Lets look at this from another angle that just might help to ease the pain.
If Rooney had been banned we would have suffered a double whammy.
1) No matter what punishment the FA could have dished out, it wouldn’t change the result on Saturday. :naughty:

2) If had been banned for 3 games say, he would miss the Wet Spam game.

So although the FA have shat out of making a big decision, lets hope Shrek goes on to net a hat trick against the world cup winners.

I predicted 0/9 so we are already up on that.

I also reckoned that even with that we would get at least another 12 points which would give us 39 plus anything else we might manage to pick up along the way.

Whether that will be enough is another matter but I saw enough encouragement in that first half to think we still have a chance.
