Blackpool first!!
I agree Donny !
Yep, but I think Rovers & Shrews will be cursing themselves more, since: Rovers must have been rank favourite to beat Owdam and the Shrews make their first loss at home.
So pick ourselves up for Tuesday, with Shrews at Fleetwod ( predict a draw ) and Rovers at Pompey( predict a Pompey win ; Latics need to come out “guns a blazing”.Maybe this is the shape of things to come.
The Latics play their first game back in the Premier League, in Hong Kong !Here is another example of cancer at it’s worst; a fit & seemingly healthy chap struck down by the mystery of pancreatic cancer. The same fate befell my cousin and from being diagnosed, she died four months later. My thoughts are with his family and friends.
Well Mr cheerful VAT, you might as well start a conspiracy theory; along the lines of: Stanley took deep offence at Big Dave referring to a local Wigan restaurant as the “Chinky” and has plotted revenge by buying the DW (lock stock and barrel)with the intention of ruining Big Dave’s precious club and then turning it into a Chinese restaurant & Casino
I prefer my glass half full and put the trust into Big Dave that he will engineer a shrewd future of the Latics, as part of his lasting legacy to the town.
Oh and by the way; for any of the PC brigade: the use of the C—-y word is only offensive or racist if it is used as an adjective in conection with a person or a group of persons ( according to the BBC rules ).
Famous 3 man kop? You mean you just stood on your own shouting crap?
21650. Mainly city fans. Plenty fighting.
Bound to be a few city fans who get tickets via Latics fans in our end so the inevitable slap will occur.
We did shout some crap but sometimes we were the only three who got behind the lads. That was difficult at times with the likes of Mighty Neil Morton leading the attack!!
At least Kevin Langley gave us recognition when we were chatting to him a few seasons ago; and introduced us to his son as “proper Latics fans” :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
No, but I was born & lived in Wrightington; until I got married and moved to Croston, then Lostock Hall.
There are videos of Stanley Choi playing poker on YouTube. I just have the horrible feeling this will all go very pear shaped and once he is bored of being involved with us, we will be allowed to go down the pan. This is a guy who risks millions playing poker, as a plaything. He is gambling on us getting into the Premier League, where the big bucks are. But what seriously concerns me is, I doubt very much he will be doing it for the benefit of Wigan Athletic, and should any big money come our way, it may well end up on the poker tables of Asia.Honest to God, selling us to people with no interest in football? No knowledge or idea of football? And people who do things at a financial whim for a bit of a plaything of interest….Christ on a bike! I dread to think how this is going to end up. I am genuinely shocked at the Whelans for selling to this group. I get that they’ve probably had an offer too good to turn down, but there’s no way this sale will have the long term interests of Latics at the forefront, no matter what they say. That’s absolute bullshit. We are being bought as a whim. Oh dear God. I’m hoping the Football Association put the khybosh on this deal. Doubt they will Though.
This is going to be disastrous, in my opinion. I said recently that there won’t be a Latics as we know it in 5 years time. I am even more convinced now.
As for kits, Adidas would be my preference.
Well Mr VAT, what do you suggest ?
Maybe should smash your piggy bank and put in a counter offer :woohoo:
Are you always so negative ?17874 ………. Ahhh just remembered my sister in law is going
17875.
And my prize Horc????
Anyone who gets it exact can have the pleasure of having a pre match pint with ‘The Famous Three Man Kop’ in The Brick prior to our last home game of the season, and I will pay. Good luck.
First of all, let me correct you: it was the “Two Man Kop”, but ironically there was actually three of us
I reckon 21,666
Well Mr Whelan has agreed to sell and the deal has to be completed by the 14th. So come next Thursday we should have new owners and all will become clear.
Announced at the Blackpool game with a farewell from Whelan?
Nah, it will be Friday 16th Feb, to coincide with Chinese New Year.
My great concern is this.Say it all goes a bit ‘Hong Kong’ and he ends up leaving us in the deep doodah, and in danger. There’s no local businessman gonna step in and save us like before, we’ve played that card.
For me, there are too many unclear elements to do with this deal. When it happens they are going to have to do some talking to let people know their actual intentions. We are going from owners we know very well, to an overseas investment group who we know dribs and drabs about. His perceived lack of interest in football is very worrying.
Anybody who isn’t worried… You should be.
Can’t be any worse than Venkys, and Rovers are still alive !
And, Dave. They are amongst the richest business people in Asia, and that really is saying something.
If these guys are so rich, then they could easily afford to terminate the contract with the rugby and pay them the £20m or so compensation that may be due for buying out the remainder of a 50 year lease. That would be recouped with one season in the prem.
Similarly, if they are so rich and the pitch does hinder the progress up the league, then these guys are rich enough to move the football club to a purpose-built stadium that isnt below the water line, and that is full every week, as they wont want to have “their” club on TV in the far east playing to a 30% full stadium.
With DW, we knew what we were getting – an honourary Wiganer who loved the town, but these new owners have no affinity to the town, and could easily move their club to an area where there is a bigger fanbase.
Where would Wigan Athletic have a bigger fanbase?
Milton Keynes?
Now Sammy; that is funny for you :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
Normally you come across as very drole.Major changes in every aspect of life arouses worry, scepticism and suspicion, it is human nature. Hands up who wasn’t just a little worried when we first heard that Dave Whelan was taking over the Latics and planning to get us to the PL in ten years? I was certainley sceptical and suspicious. if not wholeheartedly worried.
These people are businessmen and football with its global markets is big business these days. It is that big now that mere multi millionaires like Dave Whelan are finding it harder and harder to compete at the highest level.
This major new investment will hopefully be able to move us back up a level or two and allow us to be able to compete at the highest level of English football.
It may take a while as we have lost a lot of ground and money since we left the PL, but hopefully , and I keep stressing the word hopefully as nothing can be be taken for granted, this investment could help gain us a return to the top league again soon.
Champions League in 10 years anyone?I reckon 5 – 7 years :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
If you’ve not already read it you should give Chicken Hawk a read.Looks like an interesting read. Thanks for that.
Thought it was something to do with concourses.
That’s a design fault then.
Thanks for that info.
I wonder how many other new stadiums have been built but then find out later that they have been designed with too many seats for the infastructure.Who makes up the rules, because they need to take a serious look at other grounds before they penalise the Latics. Take Everton for instance, the last time we were in the Bullens Rd the crush in the concourse was really uncomfortable and based upon how Wigan are dictated to; you would have restricted our allocation to hundreds rather than thousands. Farcical rules, not farcical planning !
