But I do love good football – and we haven’t seen much since the Cup Final.
To be fair it was only seen on rare occasions prior to the cup final.
Martinez set out to play good football. To be fair, with his squad, it was not sufficient to overcome enough Premier League teams. /quote]
Barnsley, you really do have a bad case of Bobbyitus and just continually gloss over the facts. Don’t blame the squad; he built it over 7 transfer windows and claimed he only needed 4 windows to get the right team. The expectation on him at Wigan was not a Champions league spot ( unlike Everton ), it was merely to assemble a side to compete with the average teams in the lower half of the division – he FAILED. He made some useless signings; some that he bizzarely never gave a fair chance to play. His stubborn approach to tactics, actually cost us too many points in the end. And now for the revelation – How we won the FA Cup. You’ve heard it before – the players were told to go out and play football and enjoy themselves because we didn’t need to play safety first, protect a point rubbish. Hey presto it worked. But Bobby wasn’t brave or bright enough to apply that to at least one league game that might have saved us from relegation. Then his super sized Ego ( must be through his association with Griff )leads us to believe he couldn’t possibly manage in the Championship. Not once in four years did you ever hear Bobby openly accept any blame for a poor result or bad performance; it was either bad refereeing decisions, injuries, bad luck, lack of budget, etc, etc; but never Bobby. From Legend to Judas in four disappointing years !
Roberto certainly had a smile on his face. Arsenal, top of the table by four points, and he came away with a draw!Interesting fixtures at the top of the table this weekend;
Man City v Arsenal
Spurs v Liverpool
Newcastle v SouthamptonSome teams must drop points. Everton are at home to Fulham tomorrow for anyone at a loose end.
I’ll rely on the Statoes to correct me on this; but Fulham was always one of those average teams that we never seemed to get the better of under Bobby Martinez, can’t remember beating them at home ( never mind away ).
Nevertheless, I used to look forward to matches when Bob was in charge.
I dreaded them whilst Coyle was here.
After 40 odd years of watching the Latics I nearly jacked it all in the season before last.
Last season was atrocious in my opinion, but the FA Cup kept me going with the false hope that the Cup style would be adopted in the League. We’ve seen some shit recently, but it hasn’t bored me like the last few seasons in the PL.
Hopefully Uwe Roslers style will be a bit more palatable and we can all start enjoying our football again.
that too is “Bob on” HORC !
So he went to Utd and won. Big fkin deal. If the Barcodes can go to OT and win, anyone can. Whipping boys of the Prem Utd at the mo ;)And he then goes to the Emirates and draws – wow wee. Not like we never won there is it?
The Evertonians that I know worshipped Moyes just 12 months ago and used to bait me about Bob and Wigan…and are now worshipping Bob, laughing at Moyes and hoping he gets sacked. And what exactly did he do wrong? 4 years of underachievement? No. Relegation? No. No silverware? No.
I have no problem in recognising that Bob has proved that his philosophy – with the right resources – can deliver results. Christ he he gave us s glimpse for 10 or so games. But without the long term resources of the really big teams that will also run out of steam for Everton at some point.
Doesn’t change the fact that he left us in the shit – cup or no cup – and that he was the catalyst for the recent mess we’ve been through. And that’s coming from someone who’s rather enjoying being out of the Prem circus.
Spot on galactic, you’re on the right planet !
Was three at the back a safety first tactic? No, not at all. A bigger budget and a larger squad would have helped.
Perfectly evidenced by Wednesdays and todays performances. Better players.
It was just like watching uas last season part of the time this afternoon.McCarthy was very influential.
I know loads of Evertonians. They all love Roberto now and think young James is a great signing. :)
Aye, we gave him un-conditional love and then he dumped us for a big fat wallet. JUDAS !
Let’s see how his does against Arsenal tomorrow.
Another great result today.
Better players = Better team = Better results.
Quite logical really. B)
Okay so it’s better players, better team, better results.
But to put things in true perspective we would have been happy to finish anywhere between 11th & 17th with average players, average team & average results. Didn’t Bobby say that the Premiership was a division of two leagues and we must win our “mini league” against equally equipped teams. And yes he cocked it up !Everton are winning games despite Martinez, with a lot of the traditionally stronger teams getting off to a poor start. Time will tell.
And we are not out of Europe yet !
Thursday night is far from academic. Uwe’s first game and the players should be pumped up, so you never know !
Bet we draw Everton in the cup; just got that feeling.
So players are deliberately getting themselves sent off because Ince has cancelled Christmas leave? It’s a ridiculous suggestion – I don’t know why people repeat this nonsense!
Just saying what the Journos were discussing on the Blackpool match commentary. So why don’t you do one and get back to knitting some bootees for Bobby’s new baby !
The home defeat by Swansea followed an extraordinary win at West Brom.If there was a conspiracy, it would have been simpler to lose at West Brom.
Meanwhile, back in the real world…
Meanwhile, back in the real world – he dropped too many points against the lesser sides in the Prem. It wasn’t down to one game, he had thirty eight others. Pretty football with no cut and thrust; we really suffered in his last two seasons as Manager and yes maybe Whelan thought time for a change because the stubborn sin doctor would not change.
Let’s see how his does against Arsenal tomorrow.
and is wafc new manager, lets get behind him and support him ;)I have always supported our Managers and given them the benefit of the doubt; yes, even Mr Coyle. No doubt some of our supporters will find reason to moan from the off !
Thanks – If Martinez saw his contract out, then how can people call him Judas? It’s the manner in which he departed, after openly ( on numerous occasions ) stating how much the club meant to him and then not having the balls or pride to fight on and get us back to the Prem. So it was just empty words, lies or spin; so why spout all that drivel in the first place. At least with Steve Bruce you always knew it was just a job, nothing more.
As for the FA Cup, we won it because he abandoned his league tactics of safety first, let’s keep the point that we theoretically have before the whistle is blown for kick the kick off. A more adventurous style / strategy would have seen us safely retain our Premiership status; despite the few injuries we had !
I’ll quickly run through the points you made to clarify a few things for you.1. Do you really think these threads are healthy debate?
If you look at the amount of reply’s, then Yes it is
2. Fortunately, fans with the irrational views of the Bobsessives are a very small minority.
There appears to be a even split on here, whether that is representative of all Latics fans we don’t know. BTW,just because peoples views differ from yours it doesn’t make them irrational.
3. The posts don’t wind anybody up – your Bobsession only makes you look ridiculous
I beg to differ on this one as you wouldn’t keep on replying to all the posts if you weren’t arsed. As for being obsessed with Bob, I think you need to look a little nearer home son.
4. But I don’t want visitors to think that your views are representative of Wigan fans
They are pretty representative of Latics fans as already stated in the reply to point number 2. As for visitors thinking this, well I’m sure there must be some, but I don’t think the number is earth shattering.
5. You’ve had your little joke, such as it was. Can’t you now find a better use for this board? Surely there is enough going on at Wigan today to talk about.
I have a strong feeling it will continue for a while as you can’t help yourself from replying, such is you obsession with all things Bob. You are right, there are other things to talk about and if you cared to look at any other thread than this one you would see healthy debate on other threads as well.
Anyway thanks for your input again, and well done for not getting wound up and partaking again in a healthy debate about our previous manager.
Correct Mr H.
On reflection I think WGTB is actually obsessed with us “out of town” supporters, to the point of cyber stalking us. Maybe it’s our many years of loyalty to the Latics that makes us a rare breed and so attractive ! Anyway, with the amount of money that we’ve spent following the Latics over many years we are entitled to our opinions & beliefs. Not gonna be dictated to by some JCL !
Come on you Stoke ! for a shock win at Goodison. Tee Hee !
Now let’s think ?
Who originally signed Dicko and then never played him ? Don’t think OC can own up to that.Anyway, OC did bring him on from the bench ( think it was the Maribor game )only for Noah to throw a strop and his teddy out of the ark. Don’t think that will have done his reputation any good !
He’s hardly played for Wigan because he’s been out on loan three times.
Rather than sitting on the bench or playing in the reserves, he’s getting first team experience and playing competitive games.
Multiple loans haven’t exacly hindered the likes of Lee Nicholls, Joe Hart, Aaron Ramsey or Andros Townsend.
Despite Noah scoring a few goals and contributing with a few assists for Blackpool, they didn’t exactly beat a path to our door and attempt to sign him on permanent.
Dicko , scores 1 , and makes 1 for his first match on loan at Rotherham. But then again Coyle can’t see past the end of his nose.

He always played free flowing attacking football, always set his team up right for every match, his tactics were near on perfect all the time and he always had a plan B for when plan A failed.Yes, that’s how I remember it too !
