The main reason for this club playing like they do is technical ability and the structure given by a good manager and a long tradition of playing this way.

All the clubs players have to have links to the Basque country and therefore the grass roots level of training those players has probably been based on developing technical ability as is the footballing culture in that region.

For a club like ours to get to a situation where we could implement anything like the structure in place at Bilbao is almost impossible because of the English training ethos at grass roots level which is still way behind on teaching technical ability to kids.

The pool of talent around the North West, under stern competition from many clubs and the lack of players coming through without any discernable technical ability to rival Spanish youngsters, means we could never have a similar system in place until a vast shift in grass roots policy. It would also take a willingness for a total change in our nations footballing mentality.

We are basing our future on a structure that needs that basic technical ability/awareness but has a lack of talent required to make it work IMO. Add to that the fact we could never afford the type of players to make it work, is it all an unrealistic pipe dream that looks good on paper but in reality never had a chance, with the type of mountain that Wigan Athletic would have to climb in order to achieve it?

Sunday actually, but being just a fan and not a supporter we wouldn’t expect you to notice that.

An interesting post on another website re the travelling debate, posted regarding Dave’s comments, that he didn’t realise we had 8 players away.

“silly old duffer he really hasn’t got a clue has he. Yes they did have some players away on international duty but so did the swans. Luckily 3 of ours were playing at home and only went to Cardiff but one of ours travelled a bit further. He travelled from swansea to iceland to montenegro and back, a round trip of some 30 hours. Guess what dave his name is sigurdsson and he scored the two winning goals. Wake up and smell the coffee old man your club is doomed”

And the fact that bigger clubs are interested as well.

Knew we were going to lose when the drum hadn’t turned up.

Its probably an indirect way of stating that our pitch isn’t the best and might have not helped the way Bent landed.

Ball was bobbling all over the place Saturday.

Have to agree Jayt, even the commentator said Al Habsi was the only one keeping us in the game?

Thats why at the end of the game Villa were getting booed off by their fans and Wigan were getting applauded.

The general concensus of fans just off that, shows there was reasonable satisfaction with the way we played by the majority of fans. Five points from three games is a good return and something that we can take some heart from in my opinion.

Winning 1-0 don’t know the scorer yet though.

Do we get league points for this? Is this our 39th game?

                          Apparently 0-0 at half time.

I just wonder if Dave has taken some pies over to do a bit of networking and try and shift our club to a sheik.

Few years ago i remember trying the previous years season ticket on the scanner even though i had a new season ticket anyway and it worked.

Thing is we get charged a fair price for a season ticket at Wigan so i don’t begrudge paying for it.

Is that why the new scanners at the DW were brought in ?

Quote from the enlightened one the other day

” never mind super league starts sunday
a sport where players and club both play for the town and its fans so im going to watch them at the rugby stadium sunday
first time in 30 years better value for money than this lot
                                come on you warriors ”

                                Was it good value then?

I thought you were through with Latics.

By the way how was your experience at the DW for the warriors game you said you were going to?

They didn’t do so well either.
