I went to Springfield park because it was close and as a 10 year old, travelling round the country wasn’t really an option. I started watching Sunderland more when I was older and able to get round the country more easily, even more so when I left Wigan aged 18 to spend 25 years serving in the military. I don’t wish latics any ill and never have done and am actually very pleased when they win.

However I don’t much care for folk like you who are opinionated, bitter, racist fuckwits who spend your life with hate in your heart and refuse to let things go. No doubt if you’d been born in the 1930s you’d still be hating Germans and Japanese.

Now you have your answer Bullit, don’t ever correspond with me again.

Mutty ,as you are a die hard Black Cats fan were you there yesterday or were you watching your main club getting beat at Hull ? For someone who was brought up in Springfield I can’t get my head around why you support Sunderland ,what’s your connection with them ? Do you have family from there ? Will be interesting next season , I think Sunderland have issues behind the scenes ( ownership problems )that they need to sort out before they can really move forward. As for us ,I am more than confident ,with a few shrewd additions , we will be competitive in the Championship .

    Yes.
    No.
    Yes.

I said you would appear like a pantomime genie if Sunderland went up via the play offs. Go and fuck yourself.
You have destroyed this board single handedly.

I’ll take it you dont fancy that bet then.

Get that 20 quid out mutty lad. Max did some pointing today alright. He pointed at his third winners medal.

I see Grigg got promoted again. Just the one club he’s struggled at.

At least you have a championship quality squad eh

Looks like it was a championship quality squad all along. Looking forward to taking over the DW next season already – do you think Talal will be offering freebies for your ST holders to sell to Sunderland fans again?

Now JR – about that wager:

Wigan finished as the 45th best side in England. Sunderland finished as the 49th best side.

My £20 says that in 22/23, Sunderland will improve on theirs more than Wigan will improve on theirs.

    Wanna dance?

Like I said it’s a whole different scenario with some clubs (likes of Stoke) with an endless pit of cash then Prem clubs coming done with money who can afford to retain players for at least one season.

I’ve not a clue who but with the right recruitment we should be OK. It’s not an impossible League Luton have proved that with the lowest budget in the Championship.

With the greatest respect, Wigan aren’t going to be competing with Stoke, Sheff Utd/Forest, Middlesborough, Watford, Norwich and Leeds/Burnley/Everton – they’ll all be fighting for top 2 or top 6 along with a host of other clubs.

Look at Luton as an example of gradual improvement. Get promoted from L1, survive on last day, improve slightly to mid-table, then get 6th place. All done on low income and low wages. No big spends, no big debts. Just good organisation on and off the pitch.

4th bottom next season is success for any promoted club.

Congratulations. Not quite leicester-esque but to have gone from relegation escapees to top of the pile in 12 months is a great achievement, and shows what can be done with a bit of organisation, team spirit and a never-say-die attitude.

    :good:

Sadly (for him) he refused my bet so I stuck a tenner on Wigan making the top 6 at 8-1.

So pleased that in your moment of triumph, you thought of me. But of course you’re not obsessed are you …

Granted, but had you managed to get out of the PJ before Christmas, then the dates for Oldham, Arsenal & Sutton would have been free for the games missed.

Imagine if you’d made the final and had to squeeze Bolton into this month too – that point could well be the difference between automatics and the lottery of the playoffs.

in reply to: Almost there #196400

Going so far in the PJ hasnt helped, as dates where fixtures could have been played were then removed from the calendar, so you had a fresh first choice 11 kicking their heels in January whilst the squad men faced Oldham & Arsenal’s kids.

You are not seeing a squad on its arse because of the season – its because of the fixture congestion over the last month.

Again, a narrative to suit an agenda. It was September 1989, 4 months after Hillsborough. Liverpool fans were taking the blame for the deaths of 96 of their fans. Central Park had no segregation. Liverpool were still serving a European ban for the actions of their fans in Heysel. In essence, Liverpool fans were not welcome anywhere at that time, let alone a huge bowl of a rugby ground with limited seating and no way of segregating supporters.

Anyway – back to the colour of the seats. I personally dont give a flying fuck what colour my seat is at the DW when I watch Wigan Warriors.

Not only does that article need editing for accuracy, it needs to add context to its outlandish claims. Yes, the Latics were refused permission to play Liverpool at central Park in 1989. Central Park was an unsegregated ground where fans of opposing rugby clubs could stand together. It was September 1989, 4 months after Hillsborough, and the Liverpool fans were being blamed for the death of 96 fans due to their behaviour. There was no way GMP or Wigan Council were going to allow Wigan Athletic to host Liverpool at a ground that wasnt able to segregate fans – even Springfield Park, which did have limited segregation wasnt deemed safe enough.

I get that Mo came across patronising, but to blame him for the Liverpool fixture is just plain wrong.

And as for IL – your bitterness is blinding you to the fact that he only wanted the ground if nobody was going to buy the club, and he was very honest about the fact that he alone could not buy and fund a loss-making club and a loss-making stadium. He even tried to get together a local consortium to help buy both, whereas uncle Dave did fuck all.

But of course those two narratives dont suit this “Hate” agenda.

Yeah, I hope so too. Nothing better than beating a playoff rival just before the playoffs, and if we can get a 3 goal swing on GD, it will make the last day very interesting indeed.

Only downer is I’ve volunteered to go into work to allow my City supporting colleague to go to the Champions League semi final, so it will be an earpiece and radio commentary for me.

Congratulations on your promotion. Not a cat in hell’s chance of MK Dons gaining 7 goals on you with one game to play away at Plymouth.
