Having spent all last season on loan or injured, I bet he’s fuming about having to take a relegation pay cut due to the inabilities of others he was deemed worse than, so little wonder his agent will be engineering a move to a bigger club.

Perhaps he doesn’t like the reality of being offered a wage commensurate with a 35yr old 3rd division player. If so, good luck to him finding another club willing to pay him what he thinks he is worth.

but the reality is that, even in the 3rd tier of English football, week in week out, home and away, Latics will still be a better supported club.

I know it, everyone one here knows it, neutrals know it and so do you if you could only stop yourself spouting the bullshit for five minutes and admit it.

I might be right, I might be wrong. As you say, time will tell. Either way, it doesn’t make me a “bullshit merchant”, just right or wrong.

What I would say with almost 100% certainty is two things:-

    1) If the rugby dropped down to the third tier and had to play the likes of London Skolars and Batley every week, that 4000-odd would soon look like a massive crowd.

    2) If Latics had to play a competitive match at LSV for whatever reason, let alone a major cup match, I guarantee it would be a sell-out.

It seems you are backing out of your unambiguous claim made earlier quicker than the Tories will back out of their NHS/Education spending increases pledge!

Did I start the thread? No.

Do I want to show Griff up as a bullshit merchant – absolutely.

    Roll on October!

You can come on here as much as you want to claim that the rugby is bigger than Latics but the reality is that, even in the 3rd tier of English football, week in week out, home and away, Latics will still be a better supported club.

Only time will tell Mr Paperbackwriter.

I’ll bookmark this statement for the end of October, once the rugby season is over and you lot have played half a dozen home fixtures in the 3rd division, and see if you are right, or whether you are the one spouting bullshit.

It could be worse. We could’ve trudged off a sports field having been deemed not good enough to stay in that division twice in the space of 24 months, facing a mass exodus of playing staff without having a youth system in place to replace them. We could have had as many first team coaches as home wins in an entire season. We could be looking at having row upon row of seats closed off because there is nobody to sit on them any more. We could have a chairman who’s only other business venture was a failed chip shop. We could have an owner who hired a head coach that no other club would touch with the shittiest stick going.

On the face of it, elimination from the Challenge Cup is disappointing, but its not half as bad as being a Latics fan.

Investing in an academy is exactly what you need. It seemed to work for Southampton when they slipped to the 3rd division, and many of their academy kids flourished as they could be blooded in a lower league without fear of failure.

Admittedly the catchment area isn’t the same and competition is fierce from higher league clubs, but the lure of actually playing first team football, rather than 4 years in the youth team and a sub appearance in the league cup, may well persuade some kids to sign up!

we have looked at ways in which we can ensure that the matchday atmosphere is improved

Why not close the West Stand and relocate everyone to the East/South which hold 14500 between them? More fans packed together would create a better atmosphere and also paint a picture of a larger crowd on Manish’s late night highlights, when the West Stand wouldn’t be shown.

It would also save on stewarding costs as I’m sure the Executive Box occupants could manage without someone showing them to their seat!

If Preston go up, will Crewe or Bury be your big rivals next season?

Blackpool have Fleetwood. Rochdale have Oldham.

Absolutely hammered out of sight last night in a debacle that had the coach nearly crying the soft bastard! I wonder how many will turn up for the Hull game next Friday night? Talking of attendances, how many were on for the Huddersfield game? There doesn’t appear to be a record of it anywhere?

Five wins on the bounce – in three of them, the opposition kept scoreless.

100% home record in the league.

Average attendance almost 14,000 in league games.

Life as a warrior isn’t too bad at the moment. ;)

    Prices are quite good really.

They are indeed. Walsall are charging up to £430!

Maybe Mr Moss will buy one for you and him with his winnings… ;)

Good to see Mutty has taken time from his busy day to know when our season tickets go on sale and to trawl the internet to find a pic of Latics fans queuing, in their summer atire

Cheers. Having worked yesterday on double time, I’m now taking my BH today (paid again of course).

The pic was taken almost two years ago to the day.

And a view from the front of the queue…

    Far better than Dave’s chippy.

…and yet Latics won the LFA Youth Cup 6-1 on Saturday. Why doesn’t that typify the club ? ……. building for the future ?

Clearly they are, but the future doesn’t seem to be that ambitious. The other clubs competing in this competition were:

Tranmere – non league next season
Blackpool, Rochdale, Preston, Oldham, Fleetwood – 3rd division next season
Burnley – Probably going to be relegated to Championship
    Morecambe, Bury – 4th division.

No Bolton, Blackburn. No big premier league clubs.

After 8 years in the top flight and 12 years in the top two divisions, is this as far as youth development has reached?

    Derry’s favourite son won it….

Looks like it was sponsored by a couple of Warriors fans though….
