On team selection, as we all know, its one rule for the big clubs like Utd and Liverpool, and another for the small clubs like Blackpool, Wolves and us.

Yes, that is what Utd will say.

Point is, they are supposed to play their best team, according to the rules. If Blackpool stay up by beating Utd reserves it’ll stink.

A few years ago, Liverpool played their reserves against Fulham and lost, nearly sending us down. They still put a good side out, with Fowler amongst them, but lost. Nothing was done against them.

Can’t see why any Latics fan would want us to get relegated, whatever division we’re in.

Shouldn’t be a disaster if we got relegated but it would be a shame to see what could be a promising young team get broken up.

I’d like to see us win the Carling Cup or the FA Cup. That would be the best way of developing the club.

How about them focussing on the exorbitant pricing of football (I know that we are lucky but many are not) that makes football no longer something that parents can weasily take kids to?

I think when Taylor recommended all seater stadia, one of his concerns was the impact that the reduction in capacity would have on prices, but decided that it shouldn’t have a significant impact.

I think what happened was clubs used all seater stadia as one of their excuses for hiking up the prices. I read an article in the paper the other week saying that in the 80’s, footie was about the same price as the cinema…..we wish that would be the case now.

Latics are doing well on kids tickets with excellent value season tickets, and have started doing kids for £5. Most other clubs still a rip off though. But as long as people are prepared to pay, they’ll charge it.

This is a great idea and one I hope they continue next season to attract new fans – make every game affordable to potential new fans. £30 (or £35 for Spurs) for a parent and 2 kids is good value but not giving it away. The price is still double per game that of ST holders, so no disincentive to take a ST.

    Well done Latics.

You’re right about all that of course, but:
16,000 includes on average say 3,000 away fans. A deal like that would probably attract a lot more of them. And when there’s no special deals on, the number of Latics fans paying on the door must be minimal, maybe a couple of thousand, judging by the attendances. A deal like that which was available at every game might get a few more than 2,000 in. Finally, the income from gates must be a small minority of Latics income. 10,000 ST holders paying an average of £200 each allowing for kids is only £2m. What do they get from Sky? £50m?

My point is that each game should be affordable to everyone. Ditch all the special offers and go for a fair affordable price, linked to the ST price.

Take the parent and two kid price per game of STs – £15. Double that so STs can’t complain. That gves you £30 for a dad and two kids. Good value, should attract fans and available for every game. ST holders have still got a bargain in comparison.

To be fair, I don’t think anybody can really have a go at the club for it’s ticket prices.

    Wiganers are jus to apathetic.

So you think £50 for a dad and 2 kids to come for the first time is reasonable?

Valencia. Although, as he’s right footed, Bobby would play him on the left.

Yes, he seems committed to the cause.

    Until the summer.

    When he’ll leave.

    A post from cynics corner!

I thought he had a great game. Some dead balls messed up a bit, but on the whole was our best midfielder. I’d play him further up with McArthy though – let Diame sit. Watsons got goals in him and we need more from midfield.

When was free speech banned in Britain?

They said what they think……..nowt wrong we that!

But if thats what passes as “banter” as some people were calling it on Radio 5 this morning, then I’m glad I don’t work there.

What I heard was two stupid bitter old men, the sort of pub bores you run a mile from. There was no humour in what they were saying, and a real malicious edge. I’m guessing they’re like that all the time and someone on the Sky production team has got fed up and decided to stitch them up.

Its similar to when Ron Atkinson got done for being a racist.

in reply to: Richard Keys and Andy Gray #56628

Couldn’t happen to two nicer blokes. Looks to me like they’ve been stitched up by someone in the production team – they’re probably on like that all the time

Why not have women officiating. Firstly, they can’t do much worse than some of the men we have. Secondly it might shame the players (and managers) into showing the officials a bit of respect instead of screaming obscenities in their face.

Yes, he was just about our first ever big sale. to Sunderland. I remember getting excited as a young kid when he was on MOTD.
