If Martinez was going out for a pint I think he’d say something like “I am addressing my goal of thirst reduction through a public house based alcoholic beverage solution scenario.”

I’ll bet you a pound to a pinch of shyt he wouldn’t go for a pint with you.
And I’m sure that with that level of wit and repartee, nights in the pub with you must fly by!!

OK. By the way, I’ve got a degree in Spanish.

Thats what I’m asking – is it a language thing? If so, you’d have thought he would keep his sentences and general English simple and direct. I think his English is better than that though, and he’s just trying to sound smart.

For example, what does this mean: “We went through a spell of around 10 minutes with 10 men, with Adrian Lopez receiving treatment for a head injury. However, we found a solution and took a well deserved lead”

The “solution” being to strap Lopez’s head up????…..I’m glad the physio managed to identify that “solution”.

By the way, I thought he let that situation drift way too long when he had a decent centre back playing at right back.

I suspect we might have a lower gate than 15k this this season.
I’m sure we will….and I’m sure we’ll hear all about it….

Thanks go out to QPR for taking Blackpool’s position as the team with worse crowds than ours (though I bet the media will conveniently ignore it). I’m sure the ridiculous ticket prices and lousy Bolton following were a factor, but what struck me was, like at Wigan, there’s been an outbreak of overzealous netting which will prevent them from selling out even the bigger games. About ten rows of seats behind the School End Lower were needlessly sectioned off. Anyone know why?

Yes, as I was looking at the banks of empty seats at Loftus Road (15,000 in an 18,000 ground), it struck me that it hadn’t been mentioned. I’m sure we all remember losing a minute of our highlights a couple of seasons ago on Match of the Day when our crowd of 16,000, with virtually no Fulham fans, was covered ad nauseum. When I complained about this to MOTD I recieved an email from the producer telling me it was “newsworthy” because it was likely to be the smallest Premier League crowd of the season.

And yet 15,000 going to QPRs first game in the Prem for about 10 years isn’t apparently “newsworthy”. Surely no London media bias at work there?

Everyone wants to earn more money to live better and buy bigger.

    It’s exactly what he’s done

As someone who recently turned down a promotion and decent pay rise on lifestyle grounds, I’m not sure I agree with that world view….

I don’t think him leaving has much to do with money. If it was, I’m glad we didn’t pay it.

I think its an ego thing of playing for a “big club”. He might also pass it off as playing with better players/winning trophies etc….like thats going to happen at Villa…..

His career had stalled at Newcastle. We were his rehabilitation period. We got a good couple of years and a profit out of it. He’ll get mid table mediocrity and a decent pay packet.

quality exciting sport full of sportsmen, rather than the cheats we have to put up with in football

And no cricketers have found to be cheats in the last 12 months……. come on 3 or 4 were in court recently.
Yes there’s been a few up for spot fixing, but not throwing the result of a match (although one or two in the past including Cronje have done that too). In general there’s obviously a problem with bookies influence, much the same as football. (e.g Sheringham trying to hit the ball out from kick off, Juve etc)

    Cricket is $hit.

Boring crap sport full of unfit sportman.
Its a sport that doesn’t seem to attract the likes of Joey Barton, Jonathan Woodgate, John Terry, Wayne Rooney, Ashley Cole, Steve Gerrard its true……
Oh, and I forgot that charming individual, Marlon King, who unfortunately has pulled on a Latics shirt.

At least as things stand, we’re the best team in the world at cricket. Thats not likely to happen in my lifetime at football!!

england to win by at least 300 runs

Looks like you could be right!!

Bit of a turnaround from close on days 1 and 2 when India were favourites according to the model (and the bookies…)

I find it incredible that Bryan Robson should conduct his business in a bar. Its so unlike him.

in reply to: Roy Carroll… #68788

“A bloke that looked very much like Lee Ashcroft picked him up in a Range-rover outside and they sped off towards the M61”

Was he a fat c**t then? And when he went to take the turning for the M61, did he miss it from very close range? And was his driving extremely disappointing for such an expensive vehicle? Would you go so far to say as that he was the most over priced chauffeur in history?

    in reply to: Woodgate #68452

Woodgate – good player when fit, but never fit.

I can’t see that he would fit Martinez’s policy (which I agree with) of buying younger, fit, hungry players.

Al-Habsi is 29, Gary Caldwell is 29, Steven Caldwell is 30 and Gohouri is 30, don’t know if there are others. You need some experience and i don’t believe that he believes that policy because he aint sticking to it. Someone like Woodgate in the squad would really add a prescence.

Oh and on the subject of defenders, we have overlooked somebody. Adrian Lopez, he will have had a full pre-seaon and could prove a bargain.
But Woodgate is 31 going on 40 with his fitness record and that has shown no sign of improving over the last couple of years.

He’s also a thug as he showed at Leeds. Better off steering clear in my view – he’s no De Zeuww wise old head. More likely to be added trouble.

Not sure if I agree with AB on Cleverley. He didn’t look Utd 1st team class to me. I think he’ll be out on loan again, and we might as well have him as anyone else.

    in reply to: McLeish #68186

If Al Habsi doesn’t stay, I’d like to see kirkland given another chance, if he is fit. Think Martinez wants rid though.
