One of those games where you would have been happy with a point beforehand, but it was definitely 2 points dropped IMO. The under 8’s team i coach could have defended that first goal better.

Yes it was. Very positive report & makes a change. There was also a good (albeit small) write up from kenny dalglish in saturdays mirror.
& we beat blackburn in the 1985 (i think) final of the lancashire manx cup at springfield park. Oh & we were invited to that wembley thing as well in 1988.
I think its a sad reflection on modern day football that survival is more important than cup glory. Yes i can understand the reasons why. But as a kid watching latics in the lower divisions especially when we played leeds in the quarters, i could only dream that & to quote the classic 1987 FA cup song “we are the latics:”
‘one day we’ll be at wembley winning the FA cup’.
They were always going to be up for it when they went to 10 men. & besides 10 men always play better than 11.
Why blame gomez. It was an allround poor performance from the attack minded side of things anyway. Apart from the goal, maloney (&kone) didnt have good games IMO. But a point gained.
