I only watched the highlights of the game (the extended highlights that were posted on here). From what I saw, there did seem to be more urgency & eagerness to get forward & it was very good to see.
I do believe this is the style of play Maloney has wanted to adopt all along week in week out. We did see “glimpses” of that last season & on Saturday. But some of the players either don’t have the capability (with all due respect to them) &/or the confidence to go with that capability.
2 players who come to mind are Adeeko & S. Smith. I’m not saying they’re no good, but neither look to go forward or seem too scared to do so. From what I saw of Weir on the highlights plus the comments from fans on various social media, he is the type of player we’ve needed in order to push us forward as opposed to the safe, sideways passing of the 2 I mention above. Hopefully, he can be some kind of influence for Adeeko & Smith, especially as their place in the starting 11 might no longer be guaranteed. Not forgetting we have François to return from injury. So those 2 again might find themselves right down the pecking order.
I also said a couple of weeks back when some were wanting this “hardman” in midfield. We didn’t necessarily need a Bremner or Keane type who just put in tackles, break players legs & that’s all they can do. Gerrard wasn’t someone I’d consider hard. But he had the ability to break up play & drive forward.
What I want to add finally is that although we played well on Saturday & we’re all chuffed after the win, we aren’t going to perform like this every week. It’s impossible to do so. There will be other “Reading’s” on the horizon. There’ll be other “Crawley’s.” What I’m getting at is that we are still a work in progress. It will take a couple of years but I believe we are slooooowly getting there.
Just be patient. Keep the faith & UTT!
Typical Frank. Different site, yet still spouting the same 💩💩.
Its not ideal having to compete with a low budget but all I want is a team that play decent football and not like we did for large parts of last season. If the team isn’t good enough then we will have to live with it. If I have to watch the dross that was on show last season, pass sideways and backwards for 80% of our possession we will lose die hards.
Losing 4-3 cos the opposition have better quality players isnt a problem at least our team had a bloody good go and its great to see the academy players in the team.I think the players we have signed so far, indicate to me a quicker style of playing. Similar to the last 3 games of last season.
As I said earlier it was common knowledge from about a week back (leaked) Jones was off.
I’ve kinda mixed feelings tbh. He was shipped out on loan when he should never have gone but it was all about wages and then he was hit with a few injuries.
The latter part of last season he was arguably our best player. It’s a shame but if any club knows about cutting your cloth accordingly it’s us.We’ve felt the wrath of overspending twice and a 3rd time I’m in no doubt would see us off.
If it means kids and loans (even though I’m not made up with that) then so be it we’ll all just have to lump it for a year or two.
But we all know, away days ain’t just about winning I think every proper fan knows that.
Good luck Jordan all’s I can say is,just don’t go the fuckin cnuts up the ToughSh!t toilet you’ll not be made welcome ever againJones would have been a first team regular 3 seasons ago had we not signed a certain James McClean. It was obvious who would be the regular starter out of the 2.
Negative ? I’m certainly not with Danson. It’s a simple case of, he bought a club in turmoil.
All’s were saying is, it desperately needs investment. Let’s see how the summer goes then we’ll take it from there.
He is investing. Albeit without the need of pumping millions or billions into the cause.
If you think I was jumping up & down for joy at some of our performances last season, then you & every other supporter are clearly mistaken. But I was prepared to be patient & put up with things. And I can see the bigger picture.
We were never ever going to get promoted last season, & anyone who thought that, were deluded IMO!
Same to yourself & all other Tics fans & enjoy the close season. Roll on 24/25.
Every fan has a right to say what they feel without having someone being angry abd abusive towards them.
That post was abusive and un-called for Runcorn.
Why not try and understand what has caused them to feel that way?, I can see it although I choose to look forward to see what happens in the next few months.
If anyone had said to me you will go to the ground on match day have a drink then walk the 2 and 1/2 miles home before kick off, just cos of the team selection, I would have laughed at them, but I did it.
Lets just hope that Danson becomes more visible and Maloney changes his tactics and stops the constant team changes.
I would sooner finish in the bottom half going out to win every game than top half playing like we did for most of last season.
I also hope the owner shows us that he at least “likes” our club and is not just a business man hoping to make a few bob every year, whilst our club treads water in league one and two, with no commitment to doing anything else. Time will tell.
There is no doubt however that crowds will be down next season, thats the general vibe Im getting after talking to people, some stalwarts and reading stuff on social media. So be it, there is only the owner along with the manager, his staff and players can change things, by getting it right on the pitch. I don’t mean winning every game, I mean being competitive in every game and providing at least a bit of entertainment in doing so.Of course it is called for. It wasn’t that long ago when we nearly lost this club AGAIN! And folks like yourself (whom I’m surprised at BTW) walking home due to the team selection. Once again, FFS!
You spoke of your disappointment in an earlier post with regards a certain striker being picked over others. If it’s the same striker I’m thinking of, he has now gone.
Last season was always going to be a make do with what we have kind of season. I for one am looking forward to seeing how the project develops.
Great to read the ever ending optimism has extended to the close season
Well said Skeggy. Listen folks, if you’re not happy supporting Wigan Athletic (ie a club who is not City, Liverpool et al), then kindly leave your moaning elsewhere & feck off! UTT through thick & thin.
I’ve always thought naming the stadium The Robin Park Arena or simply Robin Park should have been the name since day 1.
Owt can happen in the play offs. Hoping Barnsley up their game & tonk them.
Failing that, they lose on penalties at Wembley.
Apologies for the rant, but suffice to say I’m fuming
Season ticket rejected this morning at all the D entry turnstiles. Was told it was “not valid” (WTF???) and was refused entry.
About to complain to club, but unless I get an apology and a refund or credit for today’s game, sad to say I won’t be renewing next season. Sad way to end the season ticket journey after 20 years but so be it.
Anyone else had trouble entering today or is it me being singled out?
I’ve no doubt you will receive an apology at the very least. But to say you’re not renewing again due to one ticketing error
He was Goode (if you pardon the pun) to bring on for the last 15 – 20 minutes to help see out a game. But he wasn’t Goode (if you pardon the pun again) enough as a starter.
I totally agree runcorn, or Danson goes chequebook barmy which is not going to happen.
The problem we have is building a squad. Maloney needs to sign players not just loans and short contracts and as we all know that comes at a price, players don’t do zero hours. He has to sign so their here for at least 2 years or how can he build if every year 12-14 players are moving on ?
Maloney has to find players, cheap and decent but there’s so many other clubs after the exact same thing
We certainly don’t want over the hill players carrying a full to the brim medical journal and their last big pay day like we currently have now.
Maloney’s budget will not be signing on fee money it will be wages which inturn makes his job very very difficult finding the right player/s.
Were gonna need an awful lot of luck in the transfer market. I also think we should to tap into other areas and dip our toe into non-league and say the Irish League and make calculated gambles on up and coming young players.
I know one thing, I wouldn’t like Maloney’s job and the pressure that will come with it in June
Good luck to the guy he’ll need itVery good points you raise CupWinners. But in all honesty, I very much doubt Maloney needs luck in the transfer market (well perhaps a teeny weeny bit as all managers do), but when you look at who he brought in this season on frees alone – M. Smith, J. Smith, Sessegnon to name but 3, plus Chambers, Godo to name but 2 on loans, I think he’s done a decent job IMO.
I think we will keep Magennis (God forbid I know) & McManaman – the latter who definitely deserves a 1 year extension. But I do truly believe we’ll be looking at players within the right age bracket. Players who have been released from Premier league/Championship clubs – again to use M.Smith as an example. And as you say, up & coming players from non league, L2 & even some gems from L1.
Add in keeping the likes of Jones, Kerr, Tickle, Hughes (fingers crossed) & I’d like to keep Humphrys also, we should more than likely be in a good spot for a definite top 10 finish. Maybe play off contenders.
I’m afraid folk need to get used to spending around 2 – 3 seasons in L1. The financial mess caused by our 2 previous owners has caused severe damage.
One thing I reckon we all agree on is that Magennis should be nowhere near the starting line up.
I’m sure he is great behind the scenes and working with the young lads. But the sorry truth is that any ability he had has completely gone. I felt embarrassed for him on Saturday.
Can’t really argue with that, still don’t know how he missed the target with that chance in the first half on Saturday.
What about Kelman’s chance?
