Just read Griff’s story. A lad of Catholic upbringing, raised in Hindley, married twice, a first son called Alex and a Latics fan throughout other than a slight wobble with ManYoo??? All this applies to me as well. Are you my alter ego?
In answer to the question on the thread, for me it was as a result of watching THAT World Cup in 1970, and being completely awestruck. I persuaded my Dad to take to me to a game when the season started again, expecting it to be at one of Man U, City, Everton or Liverpool hopefully against Leeds. He took to me Latics instead, and 40 years later, here we are.
Darren Patterson v Coventry in 1991 – a last minute screamer if memory serves me right.
Paul Rogers v Millwall in the Auto Windscreens Final as well – our best ever last minute winner at Wembley – till this season at least
Patterson’s goal was last minute alreet & it sparked one hell of a celebration from the large latics following that day but a “screamer”??? From what I remember it was a header from about 5 yards out
That said, this was the first football match i ever got drunk before so my memory may be a little sketchy!!
Yes, it was a header from a few yards out. I wasn’t drunk then, but was a couple of hours later.
What about Paul Jewell’s against Norwich in 87(ish)? They were pretty high in the Premier/1st Division or whatever it was called then.
You’re right Lowton; a decent point I suppose.
Zoggy and Ali were a class above anyone else on the pitch.
To make his memory last a bit longer, poach him in a little white wine and add some fennel.
Springy was better than both.
Griff, I live in an area with a large percentage of Birmingham fans, and most of them are fine. I guess this fella is just evidence that every club has a few in-bred retards.
Or he’s just another Villa fan trying to give Blues a bad image.
He’s got one ‘eck of a neck though.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1298682/Marlon-King-forgiven-chairman-David-Whelan-sensational-U-turn.htmlI really wish he’d stick to what he says – he’s beginning to be a joke figure
I can’t see anything wrong with what Whelan has said here. Basically he’s saying he was justifiably emotional when he fired King, has tempered this now that he’s served his time, and has enforced the statement that King will never play for Wigan again.
The only thing I can’t agree with from what Whelan said is about he and Bruce not knowing about King’s criminal record when we signed him. I knew, so can’t believe they didn’t.
The banner at the the first North Korea game saying “Kim Jong Il thinks I’m at work”.
Newcastle? Why’s he gone there?
Horrible plaice. Eel regret it.
Oi! you’re not having the ‘eel’ one. I beat you to it by about 3 and a half hours, yer shark! :|
Sorry Griff, I feel a bit of a pollack for not spotting that. Anyroadup, I hope he doesn’t flounder and that it turns out to be a brill move for the lad.

To go back to the orginal question; the answer is yes.
If we were to add up his predictions for the season, how many points would we have by now? Seven, eight?
If I hear him say ‘you never know which Wigan team will turn up’, I’m going to declare my own fatwa against him.
Very good defending, but by ‘eck it was dull. I can’t see the final be cracker.
I couldn’t sleep last night. Just boiling with anger as to how bad we were, and more importantly, how by making a few obvious changes, it could have been so different.
You need to get out more. The day I let a football team have this sort of effect on me will be the day I wrap it up.
I wish it didn’t have this affect on me, but it does Banjo. If a game like last night had the same affect on the players, we’d be a lot better.
