Tend to agree that in the main goalkeeper signings aren’t pointless. They may not play, but if they are needed then they are there. The point was they were there as backup.
Now for example signing Albrighton this season to me was pointless.

If he wants to move then there is no better way than by showing he is fit and up to the job. The reason he’s not elsewhere right now is because he failed the medicals (another indictment of Coyle’s fitness regime in not helping him recover?)
I think he’ll put that extra effort in at training, and if he plays will give 100% to prove himself.
