While Maribor do have only about 2,000 regular fans, the early rounds of the Champions League saw big crowds (Apoel Nicosia 12,100; Birkirkara 9,000).
The play-off gane against Zizkov was a sell-out (12,306), but you would expect that as they had a chance of getting through to the group stages of the Champions League.
However – the Rubin game only had 7,500 crowd(“gledalci” means “attendance”):
https://www.nkmaribor.com/tekmovanja/ostala/?id=415But we won’t get very far playing like this.
Got us three points.
Yes, I suspect I have.
But that’s for the club to deal with internally. I am sure we will never know beyond rumour and speculation.
Coyle spitting his dummy out and not selecting him isn’t very professional
Maybe he’s the one spitting his dummy? Just a thought.
Sorry gekko, but I have to ask:
Are you saying a 15-year-old went there on his own?
We shouldn’t expect anything in Europe, why ?
Now we’ve played once in Europe do u suggest we withdraw from the competition to ensure no injuries ?
Nope we should give it a go but not expect to be milan circa 1990’s.
New wigan fans seem to expect to win everything, when reality suggests that we are punching well above our weight…
Well seeing as Zulte Waregem are ranked 172 in the European club rankings and Wigan are joint 100th I would say that we were definitely not punching above our weight the other night !
TBH Phil all our ranking points are from being English. We have no earned points of our own.
Zulte are ranked significantly lower as Belgian clubs have a lower national coefficient. Why chose Shearings anyway? Eavesway are the regular coach company used by the Travel Club???
as I said above – this was organised by Wigan Athletic, not by the Travel Club.
We stopped once at (I think – it was early!) Newport Pagnall for half an hour at around 6. M25 wasn’t too bad (although I was dozing) and Dartford Bridge seemed fairly OK, as much as it ever is.
We got to Dover about 9-ish, but going through passport control took ages, as did then queuing to go through the ticket barrier. We got onto the ferry just about in time (We saw one Shearings coach which was close behind us and didn’t get through the “cut-off point”), as by the time we got up on deck we were setting off.
At the Calais side our driver drove around a carpark at the terminal to a pre-arranged pick-up point, and swapped drivers – there were three Shearings drivers waiting.
She (our driver) got off saying she was going to go the sleep and would pick us up in the morning. The new driver then took us to Bruges, we got there about 2:30.
Afterwards we set off to Calais, changed drivers, and our first driver brought us home.
John – the Shearings trip was from the club, not the supporters club.
We had WAFC stewards on board. Nothing to do with WASTC.
I was on one of the coaches that did not get held up, had no problems at all, in fact it all ran very very smoothly and was well organised. Obviously I cannot speak for anyone who was on the other coaches but for myself I would highly recommend. The seats were fine too – as much as seats on any long coach journey are.
What we could really do with is a dedicated forum for this kind of stuff called, oh, I don’t know, Away Travel, or something. It’ll never catch on.
No – I’ve just had a phone call from them, a couple of e-mails, and a letter on Monday.
Coaches arrive at stadium at 2:45, boarding from 3:00, leaving at 3:30, unless full beforehand so can leave early.
I’ve posted the question for you Eccy on a FB group of people who “groundhop” to European grounds (and with a number of members from Belgium).
I’ll let you know of any replies – alternatively if you are on FB the group is
