One other big difference was that there were jobs available for all – including disabled at places like Remploy.

The public sector could also soak up jobs, making sure people worked rather than being on benefits. The low benefit rates were set at subsistence rate to reflect that ideology.

Now we have the situation of far fewer jobs, and instead of creating jobs in the public sector which would at least drag some tax revenue in, as well as getting the young into a work ethic, recent Governments have failed to see that you can’t run a country on business lines, and that forcing people to work longer for their pensions means that there is a log-jam of jobs for the young.

Which means you end up in a spiral of the benefits culture, which didn’t exist in 1949.

If we go straight back up we will still be one of the favourites to go straight back down again but we may have learned valuable things from our 8 season stint ! Only time will tell on that front but for now the feelgood factor is riding high within the club ! If we go up one season and straight back down the following season then at least we will be as happy as Larry ( Foley ) every other season which has got to be better than struggling every season in the top flight and getting by on the odd shock win over one of the ‘joy boy’ outfits !

I said something similar many years ago before we got to the Premier when Bolton were doing their yo-yoing.

You have a season of doing well, and winning. And a season of being among the so-called elite, and seeing the top clubs and players. The Premier League is fine when there’s not too much of it.

You then go back down, start winning, and the cycle repeats.

It’s not a bad thing, in my opinion.

They were warned there would be a transition period.

          Looks like it’s finished

            I think so.

Particularly when you see the old things appearing:

“Roberto Martinez … managed to be really positive following an absolutely miserable performance”

“Not a single Martinez signing started the match”

” there was a concern that the emphasis on possession meant that players would attempt to take unnecessary risks”

“The most striking aspect of the whole performance though was just how bad the passing and the movement were – the few decent portions of play were down to players producing moments of skill off the cuff.”

I must admit that Holt going head-to-head (or toe-to-toe depending on how your life rolls) with Vidic was a highlight.

We have needed someone with that aggression, and I think we must accept that he will be missing for some games suspended, but having that passion is commendable and what we need in the Championship.

Oh I’m sorry. …..you MUST have a completely different view of the game. Please enlighten one .

I completely agree with your own comment above – that this is a pointless game.

Which is why I for one can’t really be bothered getting myself in a lather over it.

Just booked my tickets and coach for Bournemouth. That’s far more interesting to me.

Puts an end to the trivia question about Hull though doesn’t it?

It amazes me how some people fail to understand the difference between having a conversation with their mates down the pub and posting on a public message board.

                          Precisely.

The best way to avoid an answer you don’t like is not to ask the question.

At the risk of being accused of being in the pay of Satan and trying to spoil everyone’s fun (whereas I am trying to keep some of you out of trouble):

Sporting Events (Control of Alcohol etc.) Act 1985

“Offences in connection with alcohol on coaches and trains.

(1)This section applies to a vehicle which—
(a)is a public service vehicle or railway passenger vehicle, and
(b)is being used for the principal purpose of carrying passengers for the whole or part of a journey to or from a designated sporting event.
(2)A person who knowingly causes or permits intoxicating liquor to be carried on a vehicle to which this section applies is guilty of an offence—
(a)if the vehicle is a public service vehicle and he is the operator of the vehicle or the servant or agent of the operator, or
(b)if the vehicle is a hired vehicle and he is the person to whom it is hired or the servant or agent of that person.
(3)A person who has intoxicating liquor in his possession while on a vehicle to which this section applies is guilty of an offence.
(4)A person who is drunk on a vehicle to which this section applies is guilty of an offence.”

Then you know what to do

One of the objects of a board like this is to inform. We don’t make the law, but it would be very irresponsible of us to condone acts that are illegal. Whether we agree with the law or not.

And in answer to me saying “you know what to do”. The answer is post something that’s interesting.

Dawn raids across all Wigan Coach Companies imminent.

I think you’ll find that the Supporters Club and Arky, to name but two, would take offence that you imply they break the law.
