TBH, it wouldn’t surprise me if Huddersfield left the pitch with the extra bumps and bruises from the rugby knowing full well that we knock it around.
In the middle of summer I would agree, the ground is hard and therefore wont be affected.
The pitch was cut up, but it also wasn’t flat…. it was like it had mini moguls. You are seriously not telling me that you believe having a game of any sorts on that very heavy damp pitch is not going to deteriorate it are you?
Try watering down these patches of lawn and let the water saturate for 3 or 4 months first before conducting the experiment.
24 hours is not enough time to get it rollered properly and level (it needs time to settle), and certainly not back to life after it has been run on for 80 minutes!!!!
They do wear studs in rubgy as well you know… in 3 months time it would not have made as much of a difference as it will be dryer, harder and the grass will be growing, the impact of running on it would be a lot less of an issue.
I understand you wanting to defend, but in this case logic has got to kick in to tell you the original comment is probably true at this time of year.I’m not trying to defend anything. The pitch was sh*te before kick off on Saturday as well and has been sh*te for months. Yes the rugby won’t have helped but it won’t have ruined it totally either.
I know most will think Oldham would be the easier game, ask Liverpool (and Everton).
But would you prefer a great tie against Everton at Goodison, or another trip down memory lane at Ice Station Zebra?Don’t care mate as long as we get the win. I’m not sure I have enough layers of clothing for a trip to Oldham though.

There’s quite a few of those videos link to other major moments in our history. Should keep you entertained for a while.
It’s also usually quite evident by looking at the areas that are affected. The middle of each goal and the centre circle. If it was rugby and scrums then it would either be all over or in two big strips the full length of the pitch around 10 yards in where the scrums are formed.
Believe who you will but I was always told by the groundstaff at the (then) JJB that rugby causes little damage, as most of the movement onto it is downwards in tackles. Scrums are now a token part of the game and they certainly aren’t “digging their stilettos in”. They loosely bind and get the play moving.Pitches are cut up badly by football sliding tackles with “blades”.
There have only been two rugby games at the John Smiths, and months of football.
I am certainly no fan of rugby but we lose the high ground if we start getting silly.
Exactly mate. Or as they worded it to me:
Pick a section of your lawn and drop onto it several times and then stand up. Then pick another section and kick a football from the same spot whilst wearing boots and see the difference. Then slide on your knees ala Wayne Rooney when he scores. There will only be one half of the lawn in a mess.
TBH mate it didn’t really happen. It was all smoke and…
…oh hang on a minute, erm….
I am guessing there won’t even be mention though…Probably not no
Looks quite flat to me buddy. There may not be a lot of grass there (it doesn’t grow that well at this time of year) but that ground looks very flat.
Can’t say the same for today! No it didn’t and it didn’t yesterday either.
Knew I should have done a before and after shot
Note the state of the in goal area on picture 8 in this here gallery from a match that was played 2 weeks before the first RL match was played on that pitch.

I see all the fighting at Huddersfield yesterday, has been kept very low key. I wonder if the WEP will have a front page spread with all the Warriors fans fighting with each other in the away end at Huddersfield yesterday???Bloody football fans causing trouble at rugby.
It’s a disgrace
You will not have a good playing surface 24 hours after Rugby match. That pitch was terrible today, the ball was bobbling all over everywhere.
I knew this would crop up.
Did you see the pitch prior to kick off at the said rugby game? It looked exactly the same. IE – Sh*t.
Blackburn …performance of the round so far. ……I hope we follow them but I think our semi reserve team will struggle. Full strength team for me……bollocks to all this big game at Reading coming up.As ive stated before weve won our next league game only once after resting players.
How many times do you have to be told it isn’t done to rest players!? Martinez will have picked his team before the Arsenal game and there’s. not a chance he’ll change it.
As for performance of the round? Result of the round maybe, but they got battered from what I saw. Fair play to them though, if the opposition don’t score and you do, you win.[/quote]
So who do you think he’ll rest today then Griff?
Keep it to the thread you started on the other sports forum SDW
I feel sorry for the guy. He can’t be the first man to be legless and shoot his girlfriend in the face whilst thinking she was someone else.
