California’s governor pledged the same thing a good few years ago….and they suffered electricity blackouts. Milibean is clutching at straws at best. When you are a Company, you have an obligation to return value to shareholders who put their money into companies, that’s how companies can expand, take on more workers and grow. Catch 22 really, without investors, companies will cease to expand and allow their competitors to take their market space. Having a government restriction on payments to privately owned companies for services such as energy and it has an impact on shareholder’s decision to invest in a UK company or one abroad which will return better value.
Agree more should be done to help people, but as usual, the root cause of the problem is not being identified…Usual Labour blaming the big Corporates rather than looking a bit closer to home.
Shareholders returns < old people scared to put heating on. Energy markets are a prime example that giving these private corporations the freedom to do what they want does not benefit the working classes. They have had ten years to manipulate the markets and beat their record profits year after year while hiring people on sub standard wages and offering no job prospects to the youth of Britain. All the while everyone's prices are going up year on year. Its not labour blaming the big corporates its Labour finally standing up to them.[/quote] Have we had a successful privatisation at all anywhere along the line ,trains ,gas electric, water ,planes ,steel,all have let prices go through the roof whilst pay as lagged considerably well behind all the above where said to be a burden on the taxpayer yet still we fund them through other means ie price hikes whilst tax remains the same
I find it ironic that the big companies are threatening blackouts because there profits will be effected if the boot was on the other foot and the workers came out on strike due to poor pay working conditions etc they would be accused of being militant

Are you really suggesting that if Celtic/Rangers where to play in the premier league they would not be challenging for top four with a massive increase in tv money plus the crowds they get ,they would be a major force in my opinion with the players they could attract with a bigger war chest to spend
