Given the current away form in this cup(8 goals for-2 against)- anybody away !
Good to see the club taking the cup competion seriously instead of the usual Premier league survival nonsense. That ruins it for the fans and destroys what football is all about -shows how positive Martinez is.
That win at spam last night have given everybody including us a lift ahead of the Sunderland game.
      Bloody brilliant Latics! goodpost

He also stated on MOTD that we would be just the same as last year.I strongly disagree as i think we have found the top class striker we have cried out for for years in Kone.
Every year Martinez has improved the points tally and i thought his comments on MOTD were unfair after what i think was a narrow defeat against a team who had all the run of the ball on the day.

I am going to predict a Kone transfer request before the end of next year !

I’m going to predict that you moaning barstewards will have your tails between your legs before we’ve hit November.

Hey we played bad today, if we had won would I be thinking top 10?, no I wouldn’t. The fact we played poor and lost, do I think we’ll get relegated err no also. Grow up girls.

I think I would sooner listen to Sudders talking about how many of us our going to Sunderland, than listen to you moaning gits. [/quote]

Well said we have been here before havent we? Though we could have snatched a point despite our bad show and boy were they lucky-run of the ball and the refs decisions went their way didnt they?
At least we will go up to Sunderland with a decent turn out unlike that pathetic rabble that came up today.
Brighton when they were on their @rse at bottom of division 4 in the mid 90s brought more up than that.

Bad performance yes but could have won the game with the amount of chances we had.
The chance that hit the bar at the end of the first half was crucial and if that had gone in i think we would have gone on to win the game.
Not the end of the world to be beaten by our bogie team and to be honest how could any player get fired up against a club that brings three busloads to the cheapest away ground in the league.

Great post and so wrong that any club charges such a high ridiculous amount to a club that does its best to offer cheap tickets to all.

I have an old copy that i bought from the old Smiths bookshop years ago .It has the Bury,Walsall (away),The great Everton cup tie from january 1980 (this was as big a game as we have ever had before or since believe me!) and the Mansfield 1982 promotion game as well.Im sure there is also a game from the first season in division 3 as well as other clips from the era.
I actually got on the telly at the Bury game and i also appear just before the brilliant pitch invasion against mansfield. The Bury game attracted a fair crowd and Latics won the game 2-1 and it was the first home game ever televised i think.I remember the outburst from that Elton blbloke but we dont seem to see him on the telly anymore do we?
I will try and convert this to the net if i can but you have to remember us mid forty somethings aint the best with the technology so it may take a while!

Great goals tonight and glad we stuck the fingers up at the TV goons who wanted another upset.
A cup run is surely a possibility as they dont need to worry about relegation from what we have seen so far.

As one of the proud 800 that made the journey im afraid to say Kone was certainly not MOTM material. Held ball well, didn’t work particularly hard but was a real presence. Up until goal looked edgy in front of goal and had couple of clear cut chances second half. He looks promising but believe me when you watched his workrate throughout the game he was miles behind Franco (who apart from the goal had his worst game for a while). Man of the match for me was undoubtedly Maloney. Most of our better play came through him and as many have posted the new lad Ramis looked solid. As usual Boyce and the two Jimmy Macs put In a decent shift.

This year there are some teams in the league who look quality like Everton and Swansea and thought its early I think the games between those at the bottom of the table will be vital. Norwich, Reading, QPR and West Ham look average but after that i dont see many weak teams. It may be yesterday we played the worst team in the league so I’ll reserve comment on a possible top 10 finish as other teams look strong. At the end of September we will have a good idea of our potential. In Bobby we trust!

West Ham look a bad side -they made Swansea look like Barcelona.Good points but i think a relegation battle is not not going to happen this year.Stoke,Norwich West Ham ,Southampton,QPR and Villa for me

Great performance man of the match (imo) Ali made some brilliant saves.Steady Nigel predicted his team would win and they were given a lesson in Premier league football by a team that came and outclassed them!
The Martinez master plan is coming to fruition after 3 seasons and i think we will avoid a relegation battle this year without a doubt.I think a top ten finish is a real possibility.
Just hope we dont get any more vultures sniffing about before the window closes.
                      Very proud!

Great goal against West Ham -great business getting 1.5m for him think the championship will suit him.

Kone to start in place of Santo- its a tough one but he has far too good a strike rate to leave on the bench!
If Moses is still here then i would play him because while i am certain that move is going to happen we should use him while he is still here.

Other than that i would keep the team as it was on sunday and i am sure even with the Southampton media darling hype fest that will go on before the game we will get our first three points on saturday.
                          3-0 Latics!

One of the all time Latics greats in my view-scored goals, worked his socks off and always gave 100%.He did really weel at Latics and i was gutted when he left the club.

All positive if you ask me-great character from Latics after the goals from Chelsea and easily deserved something from the game.
The squad looks stronger and is probably the most settled one we have had for a good few years.Kone,Ramis (the first goal wasnt his fault -(world class play from Hazard)look good signings. This team WILL get goals and has bags of pace in it and real hunger and fight and im sure we will get our first three points next saturday regardless of Southampton’s bright start yesterday.
Another positive were the extra supporters who turned up yesterday adding to the atmosphere and creating a very positive feel around the ground.
The club is on the up now that is for sure and we will stay in this division without a doubt with more performances like that.

Apart from the first 7 minutes, we matched the European Champions. If we play like the final 38 or so minutes of the game for most of the season, I think we will be in for a very exciting time.

Let’s look at the points from the game….

RAMIS: Let’s not tear him apart and rip into him. The lad was playing his first Premeirship match. The one thing we could not replicate in Pre Season, in any way shape or form, is the pace of the Premiership. In the space of the first 7 minutes he got done twice for pace, which resulted in the first goal and then conceeding the penalty. Ramis learned a very harsh lesson. But apart from that, I though he looked solid, and very good on the ball. As I say, let’s not start getting on the lads back, please.

THE OTHER 38 MINUTES: We looked very positive. We played some very neat football, and there wasn’t a lot between the two sides. The two James’ in midfield were busy and industrious. Moses showed glimpses of why Chelsea will probably sign him shortly. Di Santo looked busy, but was quite well shut out by Terry and Luiz. If he had scored that chance in the first half, we may have clawed a draw out of the game. I like Figueroa at wing-back as well. Maloney was very busy. When Gomez came on, he was abused before he’d even touched the ball! (as per) I have to say, that overhead kick he attempted late on was magnificent athleticism. Very unlucky. Alcaraz was superb, as was Caldwell.

KONE: In the short time he was on he showed some very good touches and went close with that header. I think he will definitely be a great signing for us.

OVERALL: Let’s not be too critical and look upon it as very positive how we played for most of the game. If we play like that for the rest of the season, we will not be in a relegation fight. And let’s put it into perspective, we got beat 2-0 by the European champions with two goals that were of our own fault and making. QPR got done 5-0 at home by Swansea and Norwich got done 5-0 at Fulham. And the ‘mighty’ Liverpool got done 3-0 at West Brom.

Today was hardly a disasterous result. Play like that against most teams, and we will get something out of the game.

Looks like an utter bag of wank, I can tell you now how useless he is going to be. Totally outpaced for a centre back. Martinez’s tactics and selections all wrong again, Does he do it on purpose. It is pathetic, We are playing them off the park but persists with one up top. Why doesn’t he just stick the end of last seasons tactics. I just don’t get him sometimes. If you dont play strikers you won’t score goals. Pisses me off because the performance was great.

Yes Ramis (Scott Green lookalike btw) is awful because he struggled (for one move) against world class forwards?????
He played well cleared a chance from Torres off the line and worked his socks off all afternoon.I agree that he maybe should have started with that new striker however the overall performance after that dreadful start was excellent and we deserved something from that game.
I have a very good feeling about this season if that is an indication today-we will batter Southampton next week if we play as good as that today.
