If Denmark go through here, England will be laughing.
2 July 2018 at 2:08 am #169983One of the semi finalists will be either a side ranked 20th or 70th in the FIFA rankings. They will face a side ranked either 6th, 12th, 16th or 24th for a place in the final.
2 July 2018 at 10:23 am #169984If we don’t go really deep in the comp now we never will. Its not being arrogant but we will never again see a half of the draw open up more favourable for us. With Spain going out we must be looking for a semi final or even final place. Again its not being presumptuous but our league is lorded as the greatest in the world well now these players must back it up and go for it. I don’t see the winner coming from our side of the draw but we must try to be in there with a chance.
2 July 2018 at 6:00 pm #169990Would you say that of Russia today Sam?
Spain passed the ball over 1,000 times and dominated with 79% of possession. Yet with all those passes and possession could only muster up 9 shots on target.
Were Russia the better side for getting the result and holding in or Spain for their fancy passing game?
At least their players can join the Argentinians, Portuguese and German players on their yachts now. Bye bye Spain.Wasn’t that how a certain team from league 1 played against their far superior premier league opponents in this seasons FA Cup?
But, how the spanish were denied a penalty, VAR only knows.

There isn’t an answer unfortunately – there was enough there for them to be able to justify (however unconvincingly) that there was no foul so they’ll just stick to that line.
But I did say when watching it at the time (even before seeing the replay) that there was no way that the ref would give a penalty at that moment against Russia & so it proved.Just like when Scholes wasn’t sent off at the DW for that title decider & I heard the referee’s head justify it the next day by saying that some times an official has to referee the “occasion” rather than just the match
2 July 2018 at 9:36 pm #170001Would you have given Spain the penalty TL or would you have ‘refereed the occasion”?
Be honest.
Fuck the EFL

If I’d have seen an offence at the time I’d have given it without thinking- I also like to think I’d have made a big deal before the corner about pushing & pulling so that if I had to give one I could say they’d all been warned.
If I’d missed it & then VAR said it should be looked at, I’d have been praying to God that I could get away with not giving it. This ref can possibly just about get away with it but I think in the 18th minute he’d have given it!!
It’s like if a team is attacking & 90 minutes is up on your watch, virtually every ref will allow that attack to reach its end whilst praying they don’t score
3 July 2018 at 1:17 pm #170011Who remembers Clive Thomas and the Brazil injury time corner incident?
3 July 2018 at 9:23 pm #170015Don’t forget the match tonight lads, a run down country full of corruption, fuelled by cocain and gang violence is playing columbia, kick off 7
4 July 2018 at 2:46 am #170021And we’re through. With 2 shots on target in 120 minutes and despite the whinging and cheating South American attitude we did it.
The horrible lot equalised in time added on from when they were crying about our obvious penalty so despite unconvincing performances from one or two justice was done with a shoot out win.
Sweden next for the lads.4 July 2018 at 3:03 am #170022I’m just happy we’re through, especially since we did it on penalties.
For all their gamesmanship – or whatever you want to call it – some of those Columbian players or members of their families might not be around to see the next World Cup.4 July 2018 at 3:35 am #170023Technically (in terms of league placings), Latics were the best team to enter the FLT last season, but did they win it?
.Not the best analogy…. no they didn’t nor did they make any serious attempt to do so…… whereas there aren’t any teams/players at the World Cup who don’t see it as the pinnacle of their careers and are giving their very best.
