Yes! We should bulldoze it, sell the land to Tesco and find a rugby club to go halves with on a new one.

The Bruce – Martinez debate is a non starter.. if Bobby had the players Bruce had, then things might be different.

Unlikely Bolshy – bar a couple of notable exceptions (Heskey, Palacios), the current squad is not worse than the one under Bruce. The difference is the management.

    1. Bruce and his staff came with bags of top flight (playing and managing) experience and had been through the wars in the Prem and Championship
    2. Although Martinez is talismanic for the fans, he ain’t jack to to squad. Bruce is famous and respected amongst players
    3. As a defender, Bruce knew the secret to success the Prem is having a solid back line, not bags of goals

As for his playing style, I don’t remember many folk complaining when we were hovering around 7th spot – and I don’t remember it being turgid…yes it was direct, and much of it was played down the middle, but a lot of that was due to having a strong spine in Heskey,Palacios and Bramble.

Whilst I’d love Wigan to be able to play like Arsenal or Barca, I would rather watch committed, direct football where we won/drew more than we lost, rather than attractive but lightweight and toothless football that gets us annihilated and embarrassed.[/quote]

I totally agree with you although, Palacios, Heskey, valencia and Cattermole sold (quite understandably) for 41 million would weaken any side. I’d argue that with these players Roberto’s ‘style’* might be possible. I too would love to see the current side take pride in keeping clean sheets. Like Jewell and Bruce’s sides did. Seems a long time ago when De Vos and Matt jackson were lying all over the floor gutted because they’d conceded a goal (after 9 games) in the dying minutes even though they’d won 3-1. *Quick archive check in the excellent CL database*.

    01.01.03 V Notts County.

‘Style’* whatever that is. Lets start defending please and get shut of Coco the clown in the nets.

We’re scraping the barrel for excuses if language is now the problem. They are playing football not designing rocket engines.

I know it was Bruce at in the technical area. That was my point ;) .. I wasn’t at the game but watched the whole 90 minutes a couple of weeks ago. My point was.. >>>

The Bruce – Martinez debate is a non starter.. if Bobby had the players Bruce had, then things might be different. Well he doesn’t and the sooner he plays to his strengths the better. Lets try old fashion things like tackling, defending and keeping possession. I couldn’t care what formation you play, what the division is or who the opposition are. Relegation shouldn’t be a fear for us (parachute payment etc) but getting tonked week in week out is hard to take when (as a fan) so much time and effort has been put in since our promotion to the football league.

New blood please Mr Whelan. Before the damage done is irreversible. Lets show the football world why this is such a great football club. Show our younger fans what a great club it is to support and why we are here, fighting as we always have done even before our election to the football league.

See you all, well some of you at the Sunderland game.

As people are probably aware I have no problem with 4-5-1 as a system if its played properly with players capable of operating that system but at present Latics don’t.

    4-5-1?

Chris Coleman, thought he was harshly treated at Fulham and when Sanchez took over they went backwards. It could be argued that Roy Hodson got the Liverpool job on the back of Chris’s hard work. Had a disaster at Coventry (Similar story to PJ at Sheff Wed) but was forced into selling his best players plus false promises just like he was at Fulham.

He wouldn’t want a kings Ransom and should be in the Kaisers budget, likes his teams to play and roll their sleeves up.

He was my 2nd choice last summer before the appointment of the one we cannot name. ;)
