Come on you w@nky Wanderers, FFS send Hughes and Rangers down.
Fernandez and co. will then all look right pr@icks after their somewhat presumptuous celebrations last week.
Warnock, I’m sure won’t let the opportunity go amiss to call Fernandez and offer his commiserations.
Will Fernandez stick with Hughes (‘the right man’), will Hughes want to stick around …..Problems, problems ……
B)
More performances (on regular basis) next season as per last 2 months plus new kit and we REALLY will look the part………
On the subject of new signings, the lad FALCAO (Athletic Madrid) who put 2 past Athletic Bilbao, Wednesday day (Europa Cup Final) looked VERY useful, to put it mildly.
A similar, affordable version wouldn’t go amiss
Firsts for next season :
Man U, Chelsea, (Newcastle?) – AWAY win
Southampton – PLAY, HOME and AWAY winBeausejour and Ali to score (Bogdan -Bolton did so at Everton)
Re. MR Brownbill
Add to your list of factors….the WAGS !
Their weekly spending allowances would have been cut by half had the unthinkable. happened. Telephone numbers for senior pros (yes, even for ‘little Wigan’).
Understand BUT at Liverpool he would have funds at his disposal (greater flexibility) and in the short-term ‘King Kenny’ on hand to offer advice, etc. as necessary (continuity, etc.)
Hopefully, the situation won’t arise though stranger things have happened …
Was not a certain D Moyes something of a rookie when he went to Everton. And now …? Next Man U manager (??). Everton, most certainly have not had cause for complaint under his management
Re. Martinh
Excellent idea !
You wanna get yourself down to DW for Marketing vacancy going …
Good post
Without wishing to set the cat amongst the pigeons, consider the following managerial vacancies close season
– Aston Villa, WBA – forget it
– Tottenham – Redknapp staysAND
– LIVERPOOL ! The Americans have had enough of Dalglish, who moves upstairs to become Director of Football (or something similar) and J Henry seeks Whelan permission to speak to Martinez (given full autonomy over football matters).
Do you think he would go ? I do(history, football tradition…)
Where RM scores highly this time round is in his transformation of play (ex 4-5-1 week in, week out over 2.5 years) to a much more fluid, slick, offensive 3-4-3. Proof at long last that he is willing to modify his set up to get best results.
He may need to do more of the same next season (Latics), driven by either players at his disposal or teams getting wise to our style of play.
Even Barcelona – one way of playing – were recently found wanting against Chelsea (no Plan B).
NO
Pederson – past it (Rovers ST-holder in pub last night)
Hoilett – off but out of Latics reach
Yak – past it (likely to be expensive)
Robinson – unlikely to play 2nd fiddle to Ali (hopefully going nowhere)
Dunn – journeyman (MacA & McC better – young, hungry, potential
Dann – maybe (but £££s transfer fee)Roberts got out at the right time and now trading places (Reading) with Bb, back at the DW next season (NB. suspended for first 3 games – sent off, last game)
A Wigan sell-out Sunday next would be most appropriate and an apt way to thank all – Manager and players alike – for the way they’ve finished the season.
A good team performance might also help remind the arm-chair fans what they’ve been missing and entice one or two more to come down the DW next season.
We will really need to go some next season to better what we’ve done in the last 2 months or so.
Highlight – first 45 vs. Newcastle. UNBELIEVABLE
Most disciplined performance (2off)
(1)
Utd. Restricted to one attempt on goal all game. Outplayed Utd. All options used by Ferguson (bar Scholes, Vidic). No mean feat.
(2)
The H2 Arsenal onslaught that never materialised. Feared the worst at half-time. Remarkable composure and courage in second half to see the game out (Moses – best chance – should have put the game to bed).
To round off a cracking season that has seen many FIRST TIME EVERS, the icing on the cake – yet to come – will have to be CITY pipping UNITED to the title on goal difference, UNITED winning sweet FA and Bolton beating Stoke to send QPR and miserable Mark Hughes (forget Moses, £7m?) down.
Does not get any better !
Re. Nuneatonlatic
EXACTLY
Worst case tomorrow – predicted 2-2
Turn up as we have done in recent week (bar Fulham)and 3 points on offer.
Gutted that QPR scored in last minute today – hope City turn them over next week and that BW ‘do a Wigan’ and triumph last day at Stoke. Don’t like Hughes, look forward to doing BW at the Reebok again next season (and getting our revenge at DW).
Probably, 3 southern-based clubs coming up (Reading, Saints, WHU). Bad news for North-West if Blackburn and Bolton both go down …
IF QPR and Bolton both win …
– We’re still above BW on goal difference
– Blackburn, an additional game, with points on offer
– Last day, QPR got to City (must win for City EVEN if they screw up today – wouldn’t want to lose League on account of their failure to beat QPR, Utd. surprisingly beaten by Sunderland (all things possible this season)and Bolton (at Norwich) need to outdo us (home Wolves) on account of goal difference.Pressure ? Some. No doubt, we’d all have settled for the above scenario some weeks back …
If the lads turn up (unlike Fulham away) and treat Blackburn as a cup final, then every confidence …..(assuming no 12th man for Blackburn…Mariner is not refereeing is he ??!!! )
Villa to come calling again in Summer ?
McLeish could well be on his way, irrespective as to whether Villa sink or swim.
Personally think Villa win would have been the most advantageous result.
One Villa win (e.g. Norwich /last day – Canaries don’t show up/party time) and we’ll need 2 wins to finish above them (AV goal difference).
Lady luck seems to have smiled on Bolton recently
e.g.
Bolton / QPR – Clint Hill goal not given (0-0, Bolton win)
Bolton / Blackburn – cast-iron Blackburn penalty not given
Bolton / Swansea – battered but survived to take a point
A Villa / Bolton – battered first half – came back to winIn contrast, Latics…Chelsea, Fulham (enough said)
Pressure is now very much on ….
Sammon, a waste of space, Saturday. Di Santo return, Saturday next, a MUST. Muscle fatigue the injury cause, I believe.
Newcastle, a must NOT lose. Promises to be a helluva game. Ditto Blackburn.
Right back in it now after Saturday’s nil return (and QPR win).
Min. 4 points from next 2 games, if we are to be ahead of QPR going into our last games (Wolves H, City A respectively). QPR (superior goal difference) to beat Stoke H beforehand.
Therein, lies the crux to our safety. Get 4 (a BIG ASK) and I’m sure we’ll do the necessaries to guarantee survival in the Wolves game (win or draw required – Bolton form dependent).
Hope the recent missed opportunities at Chelsea and Fulham (2 points foregone)don’t come back to haunt us …
:(
