Ramis hasn’t made many mistakes since the first day of the season. And he’s contributed a couple of goals.

With Alcaraz injured so early in the season, and then injuries and suspensions for the other centre halves, Wigan would really have struggled without Ramis. I hope he makes a good recovery.

Figueroa has played almost all the season with quiet efficiency. I think we’ll miss him if he goes. Boyce has also had a long run in the back line this season, and could perhaps extend his career there.

    I’m with you regarding Ramis.

I know JPC01 doesn’t like him – and I’m sure you’ll not convince him otherwise, but I would have liked have seen Ramis play alongside Alcaraz, and I’d actually play Lopez instead of Figueroa, because as well as Figueroa has played, I still think he tends to ball watch and is easily caught out of position.
Not that i don’t like him, just don’t think he has delivered to date.

That said, and TIN HAT ON, I bought the Latics BLACK wembley top today and had 14 GOMEZ (cultured left footer like myself) emblazoned on the back  :woohoo:

historically never my favourite (but never abused) the lad has come on this year (reading 3 bred much confidence, martinez seems to think so, regular today, credit where due

just need to get the ticket now and sorted for may 11th ….

What a pity these two weren’t available throughout the season. I think we’d be top 10 if they had been. :(

We still wouldn’t be able to take our chances, but we have picked up more 0-0 draws than we’ve managed.
then all very much attributable to Alcaraz – given that we were good for 2 goals a game at the time – all different defensive combinations applied (excl. Alcaraz)

    Swansea (A), Stoke (H) for a start …before i even start to think …

best game – WHU (h) aerial football /no pace upfront – suited to him.

pace, positional awareness, tackling ability (Lopez better on all 3 fronts! …… would need games /experience) lacking for me. Sorry.

He is cover for Ramis simple as ! He has been off key the last couple of games though, I don’t think many could deny that !

and ramis has been superman throughout
I was under the impression that Scharner was on loan to us due to the fact that our back line was very thin on the ground due to injuries and as Ramis plays where Scharner is playing at the moment I would guess that Scharner is indeed cover for him !
you say scharner has been off key, i merely make the point that ramis hasn’t covered himself in glory in all games he has played. Moreover, he never ever will be the quickest. I’ll take Scharner ….

Scharner for me was indeed our weakest link tonight and constantly had me squirming in my seat ! I had a gut feeling that he would have a hand in any goals that we conceded and unfortunately I wasn’t wrong ! Great performance tonight and if we had just been more clinical we would have won ! If we play like that for the remainder of the season we should be ok but Scharner has been fairly poor of late and is a concern for me !

Caldwell back in the team :silly: :silly:

very unlucky tonite, deserved something out the game
Are you saying that you want Caldwell back in the team?
quite the opposite

in reply to: Paint Us Black…..Latics Kit For Final #109939

I had to look this up, and found http://www.historicalkits.co.uk

There’s listings of all FA Cup final kits way back from the beginnings. Early kits look more like jockey attire!

Turns out Cardiff wore all black in 07/08. Had quite a bit of fluorescent yellow and white trim, though. A few years earlier, United also wore black, but had white socks on.

    Neither won their final.

oh sh1t, we’ll just have to go and make history again then won’t we !

    upsetting the establishment …..

    :cheer: ;) B) :P  :cheer: ;) B) :) goodpost
in reply to: European away trips #109928

    Hypothetical question / straw poll

If a sports travel company was offering trips for Wigan’s European games, which option would you go for?

Bear in mind the airlines also watch the UEFA draws, and prices will rise with demand so you may have to be creative and it would involve overnight stays and possibly long journeys?

    A. Day trip by air £299

    B. One night/two day by air £359

    C. Two day by coach £139

    D. Make your own way there

    (NB: Prices are approximate)

ERxactly how hypothetical a question is this?
The prices are hypothetical. ;)
the venues (plural) as yet unknown ;) B)

Has blamed the City performance on having two big games in 5 days with the last being just 3 days ago.

So that 22 hours 45 minutes rest we had must have been massive considering they made more changes than we did.

Managers eh ?! …Ferguson, Wenger, Mancini (‘I did not see’, etc. etc.), don’t you just love ’em !

in reply to: Man City…. Gutted. #109926
    Cannot fault the performance tonight.

Thought it was one of the best performances I have seen under Martinez from back to front.

Same old story of what millions and millions of pounds buys you…. 1 moment of magic to secure 3 points.

first 25 mins SECOND HALF, particularly impressive – really took the game to City.

Quality ? Need a little luck also ….. Maloney’s second half attempt equally as / pretty clever …unfortunately great defending / Lescott.

In our case, break in play, City sub (Sinclair), we switch off for a minute , 2 poor challenges (second / lazy – Gomez), quality finish and we get done !

Standing ovation for team fully warranted at end of the game – players no doubt gutted – gave their all.

WHU, repeat of Capital cup result much needed on Saturday.

    in reply to: Scharner #109921
Sharner is our best centre half. Look at the results since he has started playing and Caldwell hasn’t. Yeah he gets turned easily at times but makes up for it with his tackles.

    Clueless!!!!!

Alcaraz BEST, but Scharner a good second (when ALL fit incl. current absentees)

in reply to: FA Cup Final Kick Off Time #109302
Been looking into travel arrangements this morning. I was literally about to book on the train, but thought I had better check the kick off time, as my plan was to get the 20:30 train back, giving us plenty time to get back to Euston.

To my great horror, I have to inform you all that it seems the match will kick off no earlier than 5pm. I’ve even seen a link on the People website from two years ago which says that “from 2013 the final will kick off at 5.30pm”. My mate looked at a Wembley link before and someone had asked about kick off time. The answer was “around 5pm”.

If all this is TRUE, its going to rule out us getting the train. If City get through, its going to be one hell of a busy M6. Once again, it’ll make things difficult for our support.

5 / 5.30 is now standard practice i think – alleged better viewing figures (versus 3 pm start)

    in reply to: tickets #109214
I hope the club thanks yesterdays fans by making sure every one who went can get a ticket for the final if they want one

forget not he fans (season ticket holders) who’ve supported through thick and thin latics first eleven, third string etc. (bradford, bournemouth etc. etc.) over the years, but were unable to get to yesterday’s game

one swallow and all that …

    balanced approach please …..
