• in reply to: Craig Gordon anyone? #99758

There has been quite a bit of talk on here about Al-Habsi.. Whether he is good enough etc and whether we need a back up GK to push him..

Would anybody take Craig Gordon?? .. Not the worst Keeper from what I remember.. Sure he had quite a big price tag at one point…

Anyway.. He is a free agent at the moment.. May be worth a punt depending on wages..

    What are your views? B)

    Wouldn’t go anywhere near him.

As injury prone at Kirkland and wouldn’t play for peanuts.

Incidentally who is questioning Al Habsi’s ability? He’s a very good Premier League keeper, and a couple of mistakes doesn’t suddently mean he’s become a bad one.
Precisely.

Ask yourself the question whether one (GK) wouldn’t be prone to the odd mistake, playing behind our ever-changing ‘frequently error-prone’ back-three every week

no wonder he’s a bit twitchy.

look at ‘world’s best’ (NOT) Joe Hart. Supported last year by the best defence in the league (Kompany etc.) Manager changes formation this, defence starts to leak, the once cock-sure JH not looking quite so smug now (club AND country).

Just for discussion, if you were looking for a number 2…. how about
wild card, Matt Duke (Bradford City).

    (1) Cheap and (2) incentivised to come to PL club and compete for 1st team spot.36 in June, possibly a touch too old on reflection ….
And wouldn’t go for Craig whatshisname either (as per Standish)

100% 3 nurps at the cottage, I’ve been 4 times since we got in prem and not seen them win once. :(

given where we are at present, 100% 3 points at Fulham.

was there back in April, 1st time (1-2 reverse … and started so well); back there again this Saturday – I’ll shoot for 2-1 to Latics, goalscorers – no idea; if el marksman Bosselli, I’ll eat mi hat :silly:

Something is defo not right in my opinion there as been not much change in the attacking style of the game it is the defensive part of the field that as let us down a lot this season conceding soft goals as been and continues to be the problem not many teams have had to work too hard to score goals against us maybe not having a settled defence for the whole first half of the season could be the problem only two clean sheets out of twenty games is not good enough

therein lies the essence of the problem
some obvious howlers spring to mind
though we do /should defend as a team (collective responsibility)

poor goals return across the team during 1st half campaign; Villa, hopefully, a sign of better things to come during 2nd (Ramis, Boyce)

For me, an improvement in any of thoese spots (probably bar the goalkeeper) would be an improvement though if I had to pick one it wold be the 10-15 goal man. Realistically, and he is apparently available, I’d go for David Graham. But as Roberto seems to have put his striking eggs in Henriquez’s basket, I’d probably go for a wing-back, on the basis that we are less in that area than others. I ahve no clue who, though. The lad Stones from Barnsley has been touted but it’s a bit much to pin everything on an 18-year old Championship player.

10-15 goal man – would agree

David Graham – not a bad call; though I think you’ll find he’s a Danny boy (if not mistaken)
Yes, I know. As I was typing it I was actually thinking how much of a let down David Graham was when we signed him and that must have made me type his name instead.

Incidentally, talking of let down Davids… did you know that, in the early part of his career, David Cotterill used to wear his boots on the wrong feet? I have no idea why either, but it explains a lot.

    Full story, page 79 of A.R.S.E.D! ;)
think he had them on the right way round last week; scored an absolute belter (or ‘worldie’, as Merson, SKY might say) for Donny Rovers

why do you say that ?

    A wild guess.
had me worried for a minute then !

though if truth be told, I did study at /play footie for Bradford Uni.

Recall very well the Bradford fire disaster; over at Springfield Park for the afternoon to watch Latics beat Rotherham; saw the drama unfold on TV at G Parents (Wigan) after the game. Nightmare.

Good luck to them – could so easily have been us.

A case now of what might have been ….

Bradford seem to be working wonders. They must have some squad (or be fitter than us?) to compete for Promotion in the 46 game Division 2, the Johnstones paint trophy, the FA cup and the league cup! It’s a wonder these lads can still stand up! It’s hard enough for our guys to play a game (on average) every 9-10 days over the year apparently. Outstanding effort.

They play for the badge and honour unlike some we know of !
Outstanding effort, play with pride and passion.

    goodpost

What could have been indeed (always on, once we drew Bradford) … ?

Some day out for the Bantams if they make the final.

    Best of luck to them.
Bradford’s your old stomping ground isn’t it? ;)
Wigan fans demanding we are in the same position as the likes of Everton. ????

    Cringeworthy.

not what was said/demanded at all
Seemed to me an attempt to say that if Everton can put a full team out in the cup why should Martinez not have the same policy.

    Did it not?
NO (K.I.S.S – for benefit of SL)
sterling job, Mr Moyes

‘just imagine…’, better not cross the road then.

    football, a contact sport ?

no. serious injuries incurred by top-flight PL players over weekend ?

rather be Moyes (game won, move on to next) than I would M Mckay, S Solbaken (job gone), Pardew, Martinez (replay) etc.

Even Liverpool found it tough going against Mansfield.

PL – our bread and butter,; bot no reason why we can’t have a decent cup run, which provides for a more MEASURED approach to the development of younger players /squad rotation and fan base ‘feel-good’ factor.

RM: re. MAC – if we do get there – please take note.

It’s the rhythm of your post that reminds me of Ron Manager

    Diamond formation?
Does anyone really know what that is?
You knew where you were with Alf Ramsey’s wingless wonders.
    4-4-2, 4-2-4, 4-3-3…
    Marvellous isn’t it?
    Jumpers for goalposts.

    Apologies.

    thanks for the clarification.

Incidentally, I agree with your post insomuch as I think we would have benefited more from less wholesale changes being made to the side, and a couple more regular first teamers would’ve helped the cause.

The fringe players would still have had game time, and surely any win is good for morale.

Exactly; indeed we would have won /had a far better chance
(Salford Latic – please note re. your response on Moyes /Everton)

    But, I’m not the manager
No, but bet you wish you ere sometimes; and its fine to have an opinion as a supporter.

The team Everton put out was a strong one and a 5-1 win proves it but just imagine if a couple of there good players job they didn’t pick up injuries to a few of there main players which could effect there push for Europe a bit risky Mr Moyes me thinks
