It’s all about balance, objective and subjective opinions, for and against….. the poster who ‘whinged (sp)’ about people who complain that this is a ‘football’ forum should check out the plethora of other pages within this site (call me old fashioned but isn’t there a part of the Board Categories entitled “Non football stuff”….”music and movies” etc) as well as all the fastidiously researched and documented history as well.
Oh!…..I like the cut of the jib of the person wanting a position in your fictitious (and wanting) starting XI having told everyone of their ’62’ response to one thread. Unfortunately,for them, that is chicken feed….this (morph) of the board is fairly recent, having been forced upon us by the ‘system’….those before us went into mega reads. I, for instance, had a particular bit of banter with one “Beetlejuice” (a couple of years ago)……..a troll of good rapport………and kept me on my toes…..that had over three thousand views and bettered any of the number of posts currently set here.
However, that is not the point. This is not a dick showing contest…..those calling for the ‘old guard’ want in on a happening board because ‘maybe’ the splinter groups have not been as exciting as first thought.
OOOOps….added to your post count here (bit like you did earlier when you took the opportunity to place two posts….within two minutes of each other……when one would have done).

Mr Nuneaton……I chose your post to build my response….I respond to the original poster……and value (as always) your quality input on this board.
1) Do you think that at times this season and the previous 2, when the players get it right on the field, using bobby’s tactics, they look nowhere near relegation material?
I do yes. The problem is that even then we don’t score enough goals and will do something stupid at the back.
2) If you said yes, do you not think then we just might need to get some consistency and perhaps a more potent striker, to change things around.?Who is in charge of the task of ensuring that we are consistent? Who is in charge of ensuring we have a striker that scores once every 2 or 3 chances say instead of once every 65? The answer to both questions is Martinez and he fails on both. In this system that we play the midfield need to support the striker and it just doesn’t happen. How many times do we cross to one man marked by four, or can’t cross as there is nobody there and so end up going backwards? We can pass the ball around all we like.
3) If you said no, can you explain how we’ve managed to match and actually look even better than a times, the majority of clubs in the EPL over the last 2.5 seasons, even Man Utd for long spells in matches?Can you explain how we out play sh*t teams and still get beat?[/quote]

The reason for the generous 4/10 was tha there is some doubt as it is unlikely those blue noses would have sole out their allocation at this early point. Still, never let facts/potential facts get in then way, eh?[/quote]

I can’t believe JR went to all the trouble to post that long winded why i love Roberto post. I was actually asking 34 and not him the reasons why i should think Martinez is the best thing since sliced bread. Nothing he as said as made me change my mind. I don’t went to get caught up in baseless name calling as well so lets not go there. we will beg to differ and leave it at that.
I have no problem when someone offers their whole hearted support one way or the other on the merits of roberto martinez and I fully understand JRfatfans stance on the matter, but I dont like either side of the debate using so called facts to back their OPINION when the facts quoted have no factual basis as I also believe he did.

However, I’m getting the feeling that a new breed of supporter is contributing to the board.

The problem we have with some of Martinezs supporters is that they like him in the same way that i like Angelina Jolie. Thats why they cant accept any critiscism of him or the way he is managing the club. Infatuation.If you are looking for analogies Mr aff then I present this to you….
I love Mrs Micky, and have done for the past 30 odd years. Believe me some times have been hard….the kids were difficult at times…..money was tight……we moved a lot………we had to make sacrifices.
However, I don’t go around looking for faults…that was a dodgy curry…..crap shag last night…….stop moaning I’m only going to the pub.
No! and I will continue to love her for as long as God gives me life.
This is how I feel about other things in my life also.

Thanks for the advice Duke…..forgive me if I treat it with the contempt it deserves.Losing to Swindon doesn’t bother me one bit, I’ve seen us do it before…but to loose in that fashion, totally out played for much of the game is just unforgiveable. (oops…no wonder the courts cannot make it stick…..)
Martinez is totally out of his depth. His style of play is so easy to figure out and he won’t/can’t change it.
His efforts in the transfer market by and large have been woeful, largely proven today.
He has survived on playing on fans loyalty from times gone by and by pushing his luck on a handful of wins.
It’s clear Whelan has totally lost interest as Martinez feet wouldn’t have touch 3 or 4 seasons ago (The 6 mill on Boselli alone would have done for him).So for all these posters who keep going on about how far we’ve come, I’d say this, we’ve stopped going forward, we stopped about 2 years ago, we’ve been falling off the pace since. There is no need for it.

Not one latics supporter thinks we are top 4 material, or ever will be…….but people pay good money to watch essentially what is entertainment and expect to be entertained. Something that has not been happening at the DW for a considerable amount of time. I have been a Bobby supporter since he came to us and in a way still am but he cannot take our club any further. The time has come for a change and the sooner the better.Mr incy
that, I’m afraid, IS the point. There are people here (OK not necessarily top 4 but you get my gist) who think we are. You want entertainment then do something else…..for me a great result against Chelsea and Liverpool (when the odds where stacked against us) pleases me and enforces my belief that we ‘deserve’ to be here. My ‘photo’ says it all….until she sings it is not over.
There are many, many games to go and there will also – in my opinion – be many surprises.
That is the magic of this team……….if you are really a supporter (as I asked in the thread title) then get fuckin behind us.
