12th October is when all the details should be revealed. Originally it was 31st August then 21st September. There’s a non-disclosure agreement. The commentators where given a broad timeframe of before the next transfer window.
By all accounts there’s a boardroom shake-up on the way with a couple leaving. Spencer said to be returning alongside Sharpe.
Since mid May it’s been known the target completion date for the takeover was late August, early September.
If you read the IEC documents published on their website you will see they are buying everything. Including the building and land for what was Sharpy’s chippy.
He’s fit and been training at Christopher Park.
Clearly not part of any plans.
The last thing we need is to be looking for two left-backs this summer. Elder had the odd poor game, but he’s consistent, athletic and relatively young.
I’d sooner have him on the books. Concentrate out efforts on signing a handful of quality players rather than padding the squad.
Would’ve been a fun few days of comments, but I’d sooner play ‘em next season.
There where a handful of idiots who were dealt with, but most was just high spirits. Plenty of the kids on the pitch at the end where given shirts, boots etc. by the players.
These pitch invasions do now seem to be the norm. I saw ‘em at all the fixtures with something at stake yesterday. And unlike the old days when clubs packed the end with stewards/police, there seems to be no extra provisions now.
It’s been reported by Nixon the prospective owners have put a cash injection into the club until red tape can be cleared for the final deal. By all accounts it’s enough so we wouldn’t need to sell a player like Powell. Should we wish to keep him.
Can’t show 3pm Saturday games in UK. So early or late kick-off’s.
They’re in talks to be taken over by a guy who owns Eastleigh with little financial backing of his own. Contracts mean they have to discard most of their 1st team, and have numerous multi-million transfers still to pay. It’s difficult to imagine a much worse option for a manager like Cook.
They’ll do what North East clubs always do when they’re in trouble, apoint someone with local links, hoping enthusiasm overcomes all.
It comes back to the earlier point. 8K and the place looks deserted, 12K+ and it’s perfectly adequate atmosphere wise. A good atmosphere is key to attracting floating fans.
Regardless, the place needs a million or two spent on facilities, pitch maintenance and general renovations. Not something we could prioritise in Lg1. It needs to be looked at in the Championship, and with the takeover and stadium rebranding, is likely happening anyhow.
Literally every club who achieves promotion or wins a trophy has a parade/party of some sort. You don’t announce these sort of things alongside a brass band in Menses Park……
Just from an aesthetics point of view. If it’s possible to put up big screens in the corner, it should be possible to put up corner advertising boards. The stadiums due an overhaul and set for for a rebranding. May as well look into ways to improve the matchday atmosphere and fan experience.
Oh, and I was told the agreement was completed yesterday and the official transition of personnel etc. is in September. Not sure if this indicates Sharpe and co. are staying in position.
Hopefully we get some official word soon.
There where 6-10 (what looked like) Asian gentlemen outside the tunnel as the players came on the pitch. Some taking photos. Also a young Asian women with a Latics top on, holding a child, stood next to Paul Cook. This was only 30 seconds before kick-off so quite unusual. And no, they where nothing to do with the mascots.
The guy who’s the 8th richest person in China did own shares in the company interested in Latics about 12 months ago. But no more. The company in question, International Entertainment Corporation is relatively small. It’s a leisure/entertainment subsidiary of a larger investment group called Head & Shoulders owned by Yan Min Zhang.
I was told about the deal by a friend by phone on Saturday night. Prior to that I hadn’t seen or spoke to them that day. They’d been in hospitality all day. Not heard anything about Royal until today. But with Gary Cook involved and the City connections, it wouldn’t be surprising if he’s an intermediary.
12,000 is the realistic, sustainable, home support we could generate outside the Premier League. But it won’t happen overnight.
Yesterday 12,000 offered far more in terms of atmosphere than you’d expect. If we where regularly generating those sort of crowds we’d no longer look upon the stadium as an albatross around our necks. Rather an opportunity to generate greater revenue and initiatives to attract new fans.
I do in part agree with some of the above points regarding hospitality. It’s a great opportunity to generate revenue as filling those suits is not so much about selling to fans, but businesses. By all accounts the facilities are due a major refurbishment…..although it’s not clear if this is directly linked to the takeover. It’s said the current set-up isn’t ideal to maximise usage and revenue.
Interesting. I’m thinking this is something to do with the corners being left open, this preventing concerts being held in the stadium, as there are houses on Scot lane that are too close with noise regulations of holding such events. Perhaps if they somehow build at the ticket office corner, it’ll solve this problem and give Wigan a real venue for gigs and concerts. Inside the stadium at that corner, a video screen would be a great addition for when they do the teams, etc.[/quote]As far as I’m aware any refurbishment of the hospitality facilities would be focused on changing layouts etc. As for the corners, there are plans for a big screen as and when finances allow. In time they pay for themselves as they’re used for advertising.
