Can’t agree with your assessment of our team I’m afraid.

The back four, bar the addition of Caldwell, is the same that got us into a good position in the first half of last season. We also have the same keeper as the last few years.

We have two fantastic prospects in central midfield in McCarthy and Diame, one of the best wingers in the league in N’Zogbia, one of English football’s brightest talents in Moses and a centre forward who has great potential and could prove to be a real handful in Rodallega.

You can’t judge Moreno on two appearances, but anyone who was top scorer in Liberatores and has scored against Argentina and Brazil with an almost one in two strike rate must have something about them.

We also have a dangerous winger in defence in Sinclair and I haven’t even mentioned Scharner, whose best position for me will always be at centre half!

We’ll see in two weeks’ time won’t we.

But when we beat Birmingham on Saturday please come back on this board next Monday so I can see if I can turn your scepticism back into optimism!

    Tydlesley,

We have three wins away from home, as many as we have had at home, which in my book for a side scrapping for survival is a good record.

In fact it is the best total of away wins in the bottom half of the league.

I can’t understand doom and gloom merchants like you, only happy when you’re having a moan!

Look on the bright side, we could be Pompey!

I’m as disappointed as any Latics fan with the way our season has gone, but we’re not marooned in the bottom three and have EVERY chance of pulling away from the bottom.

I don’t think you could describe Mr Scotland as a Heskey-type. For one, Heskey scores goals (well a few a season) and he is also good in the air, something our short stocky Mr Scotland is not so good at.

I don’t think a lack of effort is the problem at the moment, more a lack of confidence.

There were times yesterday when we should have played the ball quicker upfield, but we played the easier pass instead to retain possession.

Our problem is that we don’t have a team who can play on our cabbage patch of a pitch. Under Bruce when we played more direct it worked a treat. Unfortunately we don’t have a Heskey anymore so bypassing the midfield to a big strong target man isn’t going to work because we don’t have such a player.

Our style of play is far more suited to playing away from home, which is why we have a half decent away record. We will win on Saturday, just you wait and see.

    Keep the faith

Sorry James but he’s had more than enough chances. I like you, think he is talented, but we can’t afford to have prima donnas in our squad who are sitting on the bench and just happy to pick up their fat pay packets every week.

There is definitely an attitude problem there. Didn’t Bob say he was a Welsh Pele or something at the start of the season? If Bob can’t get on with him, there’s clearly something wrong there.

He has seriously underperformed for us, but perhaps like Gomez the Premiership is a step too far – too quick and too physical.

N’Zogbia is our brightest player and has a lot to thank Martinez for in terms of switching him to the right hand side and bringing the best out of him.

The latest Opta stats clearly show we have the dribbler in the league

    Agree with Wilmslow, good post.

We are not that far away from stringing a couple of results together. We seem to have stemmed the tide a little bit in terms of our leaky defence, and we are creating chances.

If we were getting well beaten and not picking up any points I would be worried, but we still have that game in hand next week and more options in the final third, once the new lads have had a chance to settle.

We WILL turn the corner and everyone needs to get right behind the team.

Gomez was woeful last night and it can’t be long before young Moses is given his head ahead of this muppet. I don’t think I have ever seen a player who is so weak physically and so slow. You compare him to other little guys like Messi and Deco. They don’t have lightning pace, but at least they don’t get knocked off the ball and they are midgets. Admittedly, Gomez hasn’t got half their skill, but even so.

I must say I think Diame is coming into his own right now. Is it me, or did he seem to come out of his shell a bit more playing without Thomas at the start of the game?

Like that line up  Let’s just go for it and play more direct to two guys up top. As I’ve mentioned previously, our pitch isn’t going to help our passing game

in reply to: Delap’s Throws! #22034

We live in hope! He is 8ft 10 so he should be able to pluck those long throws out of the air with ease!

in reply to: Delap’s Throws! #22032

Might as well continue the “silly” theme then.

Imagine if all our players did run out of the area, Delap launches one into the box, Kirkland catches it and we’re on the attack 10 vs 2. As long as the ball doesn’t break to Scharner surely we’re favourites to score………………

in reply to: Delap’s Throws! #22028

I know you can’t be offside from a throw in, but if you touch the ball forward after it’s been thrown in and one of your opponents is in an offside position……..

It was a silly post, but I’m glad you took it seriously Standish.

in reply to: Delap’s Throws! #22019

Great idea  Why don’t our defenders just run out when Delap goes to take his throws so Kirkland can just come and collect them?

And in the event one of their players gets to the ball first and flicks it on, their players will be offside – unless he flicks it back of course!

These throws cause so much bother because too many players get in the goalkeeper’s way.

    in reply to: Stoke #22004

Scharner does not have the class to play in that roving position in midfield. The effort he had in the first half is symptomatic of his lack of attacking ability.

As I’ve said before, I wish all our players had Scharner’s enthusiasm as we’d be pushing for Europe. However, if all our players had his ability on the ball we’d be bottom!

in reply to: New striker signed on loan #20852

Looks promising. Think he’ll get on like a house on fire with all his new Spanish-speaking teammates. Hope we have first option to sign him if he gets us a few goals.
