Paul Hart would be a disaster. I saw his first game in charge of Swindon last season where, despite needing wins, he started by flooding the midfield and playing one upfront.

Swindon never looked like scoring, sound familiar?

    Or planes even.

    Beat me to it

Dave Whelan can say what he bleedin well likes about Latics as it’s his club and without his backing and vision we’d probably be in the Blue Square Prem :shhh:

Good stuff. Perhaps we can crack on and get Ali signed up now.

It’s funny how Villa keep saying they haven’t even interviewed any managers. If Bobby sat down with Whelan earlier this week and agreed a contract why didn’t they deny they were talking to him yesterday. Why wait 24 hours if it wasn’t true?

One word to describe Villa at the moment – shambles!

in reply to: If Roberto goes whos next #67462

My main worry if Roberto does go (and I’m still half thinking that this is some elaborate PR scam to highlight our manager’s undying love for Wigan) then I worry for what it will do for morale in our squad.

As we all saw from the last game of the season, the players love playing for him, which is one of the reasons why I think we didn’t have loads of dissent from unhappy players who weren’t playing last season.

Now if he goes, where does that leave our promising players like McCarthy and Moses who were attracted to the club by the manager and who were probably prepared to give him another couple of years as they continue their football development.

Then we have the Spanish speaking contingent who would have one eye on moving on and of course Ali.

We could end up with a decimated squad and no clear direction of where we are going as a club.

But and in my opinion, more importantly, we will have lost another manager who has Wigan at heart and who knows who we are and where we have come from.

I’m sure most of us at some point last season wondered whether we were going in the right direction under Bobby, but yet his positivity was unstinting and we pulled through in the final third of the season just like he said we would. I think the whole club got a massive lift as a result and we were all looking forward to next season.

But if he goes, where do we go from here and who could we get in to carry on his good work and keep our young talented squad together?

We will get Swansea, I can see it now.

Yes I’m sure that bit got lost in translation

    the County Ground

    in reply to: QPR #66715

You would have thought that a bunch of billionaires wouldn’t really be bothered about getting a few extra quid from the turnstiles.

It’s a shame because QPR was one of the grounds I was looking forward to going to next season, but with those prices I’ll have to think twice. It will almost certainly mean I won’t go to Stamford Bridge or the Emirates if I do go to Loftus Road.

It’s about time they brought in Uncle Dave’s wage cap idea as the price of tickets is absolutely ridiculous :naughty:

A very good read Griff. As an ex-journalist I suggest you do a bit more writing in your spare time as you write very well.

I work in PR now and I must say that it is excellent PR from the club that they put on these sessions and keep in touch with the fans this way. I’m sure most of the critics who were chastising Roberto earlier this season will have a wee bit of a warm glow after reading such positivity after a tremendous end to the season.

The problem now is, we have to wait two and a half months for the new season to start again!

in reply to: Final day thriller #65808

They’ve got a bit of work to do on the training ground this week then.

Sunday is all about whether our players want to be remembered as heroes or also rans who crumbled under Sjoke’s aerial bombardment.

in reply to: Final day thriller #65806

We’d probably lose if we played Sunderland at home, we like doing things the hard way.

You say Sjoke’s strengths are our weaknesses but before yesterday’s game I’m sure we were among the better teams at defending set pieces according to Opta stats so it shouldn’t be a problem.

Caldwell is naff in the air in my opinion, but Alcaraz is good and we also have two players who have played centre half as our full backs in Boyce and Figgy so when you throw in players like Diame and McCarthy who is reasonably tall we do have people who can head the ball. We also have a giant of a keeper who needs to come off his line and be dominant on Sunday.

The key to our success will obviously be how we deal with the aerial threat, but also how we can pass the ball around their giants.

We do okay against Sjoke and with us knowing what we have to do I’m hoping that gives us the edge as Sjoke have done their donkey work this season.

It will all come down to who wants it more in my opinion and that will be us.

    in reply to: SUBS #65804

This doesn’t really have anything to do with this thread, but why does Cleverley always look so friggin miserable?

He always looks like a guy who has lost a tenner and found 5p. We know only too well that Wigan ain’t Madrid as Diame quite clearly pointed out, but come on we make great pies and he’s playing Premier League football not sat in United’s reserves.

if we stay up do you think he will smile? :angry-banghead:

in reply to: Charles N’Zogbia – cult hero #65800

Boycie really is an unsung hero and has been for some years.

For me, he has been one of our better centre backs when he has played in that position during our time in the Prem.

He has lost a little bit of his pace for me, but boy does he try his best and if we had 11 players with his drive and commitment we wouldn’t be where we are now in my opinion.

in reply to: Can we do it??? #65090

Of course we can do it.

I can’t understand why there was all the doom and gloom after the Wolves game. Wolves were gifted three of the softest goals you will ever see and then spent the rest of the game on the back foot and could quite easily have drawn the game 3-3. They are far from certain to pick up many points in their next two games.

It is quite simple for me. If we beat West Ham we give ourselves a decent chance of staying up. A win on Sunday is all that matters.

    :hand:
