    I do – that makes 800!

    Thank you, everyone.

    A real waste of an oppurtunity today.

    A waste of an opportunity to do what – play Garcia, perhaps?

    Richest club in the world tops Premier League. That’s hardly headline news.

    Midtable club with modest resources finishes fifth. Is that success or failure?

    The Everton fans can only complain that they’ve been denied all the excitement of a relegation battle promised by Bottom Four Bob.

    BBC Sport’s Juliette Ferrington at Ewood Park

    Wigan’s 60th game of the season today. They were 15th back in December when boss Uwe Rosler took charge of his first game – below Birmingham in the Championship table.

    Here’s the real team; could it be 4-3-3?

    Carson
    Ramis Caldwell Kiernan Crainey
    McEachran Collison Espinoza
    Waghorn Maynard McClean

    Substitutes;
    Holgersson, Maloney, McManaman, Beausejour, Barnett, Al-Habsi, Fortuné

    No place for Garcia after all, but Holgersson gets a place on the bench.

    The BBC says;

    Wigan have secured their place in the play-offs and manager Uwe Rosler has vowed to give some of his fringe players a run out.

    Juan Carlos Garcia and Thomas Rogne and forward Nicky Maynard could all play!

    That’s my exclamation mark. Garcia might not have appeared in a league game, but he played against Manchester City – the first game, that is. And he was on the bench at – excuse me while I clear my throat – Zulte-Waregem.

    My shot in the dark;

    Al Habsi
    Rogne Barnett Kiernan
    Collison McEachran Powell Espinosa Crainey
    Maynard McClean

    Right back/wingback is the real problem!

    What – no place for Garcia?

    We’ve got a big squad! Presumably Uwe has a particular XI in mind for the semifinal. The team at Blackburn will depend upon whether these players need a game or a rest. Some players – Perch, Boyce and McArthur – certainly deserve a rest.

    So the team could be anything! However, we should put up a reasonable team as the fortunes of Reading, Brighton and Blackburn depend on the result.

    Gerrard made his debut in 1998.

    Fowler left Liverpool – for the first time – in 2001.

    Murphy left Liverpool in 2004.

    He’s just been voted Crewe’s best-ever player.

    Proceeds from play-off ticket sales are divided between the Football League and the competing clubs.

    The league take a 50% cut with the four clubs divvying-up the other half of the pot.

    Prices cannot be increased for the play-offs but the option is there to decrease if agreement can be reached with the team you play.

    I doubt that the author has seen Powell play at Wigan.

    He was hardly selected to play a forward role – there simply wasn’t anyone else. Even then, he’s hardly played, or scored, as a conventional striker. Though he obviously has had more opportunity to go forward.

    And it’s not clear why he hasn’t played in recent games, although it appears to be nothing to do with his football skill.

    It’s probably just that he thinks that he’s a Manchester United star already. But he’s hardly the holding player that they are looking for.

    It’s certainly a good record. Gerrard has taken 45 penalties for Liverpool – but I think there are some shoot-outs in that total.

    Assuming that he has been taking penalties for 10 years, then Liverpool have been given 4 or 5 a year. That doesn’t seem an excessive number.

    I’d expect top teams get more than bottom teams, although Liverpool haven’t had a Champion team while Gerrard has been playing for them.

    Perhaps Uwe thinks that he (Uwe) can change his attitude.

    His skills will still be there.

    (Last month, he was voted Crewe’s best ever player. Perhaps it has gone to his head.)

    How many has Gomes missed?

    Gerrard has failed to score 8 (out of 45) penalties for Liverpool. He also missed in the penalty competition in the 2006 World Cup for England v Portugal.
