The seventh game would be the semifinal at Wembley – and Arsenal can’t handle the big games any more!
Manchester City 6 Arsenal 3
Liverpool 5 Arsenal 1
Arsenal 0 Bayern Munich 2
Chelsea 6 Arsenal 0Some familiar scores there!
The seats are probably above or beside one of the exit staircases – vomitories.
The hand rails are there to prevent people from being pushed over in the crush at the end of the match.
Surely that should be Bristol City.
It was all that useless ref’s fault!
Uwe’s options were restricted from the start. In defence, he was without Barnett and McCann. Then Perch collided with McManaman and had to be replaced with Rogne. Boyce moved to full back.
The defence remained secure and Yeovil still found chances hard to come by. Later, Uwe took off McEachran and put on Tunnicliffe. Then Johnson brought on a forward Moore for a defender Lanzoni. That was a brave substitution.
The balance of the game changed and Yeovil found themselves making opportunities to shoot. Their goals soon followed. In another brave move, the Yeovil goalkeeper Stech went up for the final corner and the pressure contributed to their equaliser.
A run of eight wins was a great achievement. But Wigan remain undefeated in nine games. That is hardly a crisis. And the squad has been strengthened by the arrival of Collison.
Yeovil Town manager Gary Johnson: “I enjoyed that one. I have come up against Uwe Rosler four times and I have got three wins and a draw.”
Brentford lost the League One play off final 2-1 to Yeovil last season.
They had some wonderful interchanges in midfield. McEachran, Powell, Gomez and McArthur must be the most talented midfield in the Championship.
McManaman is showing all his skills once more. Uwe seems to have demanded – and got – more industry from Gomez and more responsibility from McArthur going forwards too.
And Powell running with the ball looks like a thoroughbred racing against nags.
Sadly, it didn’t lead to many goal scoring chances. But then, Yeovil are Uwe’s bogey team!
Yeovil are Uwe’s bogey team.
Next up, Watford.
Wigan played some gorgeous football last night. Perhaps that was the problem, they knew they were better than Yeovil and took victory for granted.
McEachran, Gomez and Powell are surely the most elegant midfield in the Championship. McManaman was running circles around the opposition. But, despite the award of the penalty, Wigan found it difficult to create scoring chances.
The referee was unpredictable, but I don’t know if that favoured either side.
Yeovil were outplayed but never gave in. Wigan’s defence had an unusual look without Barnett and McCann and then Perch after his collision with McManaman. The arrival of Tunnicliffe added a little more muscle, but increased the unfamiliarity among the defence too. Yeovil took full advantage.
Wigan sliced through the Yeovil defence to score – as they should have done long before. But Yeovil persevered to the very end to score the equaliser.
Yes – it’s often been an unwanted reward for success. Recent winners of the League Cup have had contrasting fortunes;
2008 Tottenham Hotspur Manager Juande Ramos – sacked
2009 Manchester United Manager Alex Ferguson – entered Champions League
2010 Manchester United Manager Alex Ferguson – entered Champions League
2011 Birmingham City Manager Alex McLeish – relegated and moved to Aston Villa
2012 Liverpool Manager Kenny Dalglish – sacked
2013 Swansea City Manager Michael Laudrup – sacked
2014 Manchester City Manager Manuel Pellegrini – should enter Champions LeagueEven success in the Europa League may not be enough;
2013 Europa League Winners Chelsea Interim Manager Rafael Benítez – replaced by Jose Mourinho
To finish in the top six – and win a coveted place in the Europa League – it looks like two clubs out of three.
The latest odds;
Tottenham 1/3 = 8/24
Everton 4/9 = 8/18
Manchester United 8/13Competition looks very close at the top and bottom of the Premier League too.
On current form, injuries permitting, and in the unfortunate scenario Burnley lose one or the other key player (smaller squad), … why not ?
….12 cup finals (assuming no more injuries, WE have the squad, and NOW the FORM, and MANAGER to help us do itIt’s been a hard season already and we’re picking up injuries – Watson, McCann and now Barnett.
But we do have a large squad and should be able to cover the gaps. In defence we’ve got Crainey, Kiernan, Garcia, Rogne and Beausejour. And Cardwell and Maloney are back in training.
It looks as though our forwards are running into form too. It’s good to see so many potential goal scorers on the field.
And Arsenal gave a very weary performance at Spurs yesterday. Spurs dominated the play but Arsenal defended well and produced a single moment of brilliance in attack.
I’m hoping to buy three too – and I’d like three seats together! I may have to get two at first and ask for the third when they go on open sale.
We haven’t got three records of purchasing seats but we did all go together last time.
There should be enough tickets to meet the demand – there were last year. Tell us how you get on.
Burnley have gone 12 games without defeat – 7 wins and five draws. Wigan have won 8 games in a row.
They both look pretty good runs to me.
Wigan go to Burnley on Monday 21 April. It’s too early to know how much will be at stake.
Season ticket holders could buy three tickets last year.
I’ll ask for two this year.
Am I allowed to buy another when they go on general sale?
