The irony is that Rosler has acknowledged that he adopted the tactics that Martinez employed at the Etihad and again at Wembley last season.

So Martinez deserves some credit for the victory too. And perhaps Rosler did his homework better than Pellegrini.

That should be a factor of course. But whether Lescott is interfering with play or not is a matter of opinion rather than fact.

It seems that the referee thought that either Lescott was not interfering with play, or that Lescott was onside.

But he was not necessarily fully informed or correct. It’s another cause of controversy.

I hope there won’t be any argument today.

The argument is that if Lescott reached out and deflected the ball into the net, then Carson need not react because he can be confident that the referee would not give the goal.

Therefore Carson need not be distracted by Lescott and can concentrate on saving the shot if it is not deflected.

    But I agree with you.

Don’t believe it! Wait for the formal announcement from the FA.

Has the taxman put them both on the spot?

The dates and times haven’t been announced yet.

    These were the arrangements last year;

Millwall v Wigan Athletic – Saturday 13 April at 5.15pm, live on ESPN.

Manchester City v Chelsea – Sunday 14 April at 4pm, live on ITV1.

If you were feeling generous, you could restore those two points to Fortune for winning the penalty.

Everybody below Southampton – in ninth place – is a candidate for relegation. West Ham – in tenth place – have 31 points, only 6 more than Cardiff third from the bottom.

In this company, Hull have a comparatively respectable goal difference of -5. I think there are certainly half a dozen teams who are worse than Hull.

But Hull mustn’t be distracted by the cup.

BBC Sport Premier League: Garth Crooks’s Team of the Week

It was a weekend with an FA Cup giant killing as Wigan beat Manchester City

Yes, it is a Premier League team, but Rosenior and Arteta found a place for their cup performances.

There was no place – or even a mention – for a Wigan player in an otherwise unremarkable weekend.

Sunderland dumped out the FA cup by a poor Hull team

Hull, newly promoted this season, are a good mid-table team. Bruce has made some astute additions to produce a team who play attractive attacking football.

They should be good enough to stay clear of the relegation dog-fight.

They went out of the League Cup 8-7 on penalties away to Spurs, but now look forward to an FA Cup semi final against Sheffield United. We shouldn’t underestimate them.

    Mark Lawrenson said:

But, once you win one trophy, more follow. One of the best things about the League Cup final is that it is played in March and, if you win it, it does not half push you on.

How many trophies can City win this season? Well, we are not talking about four anymore because the Champions League is gone – they are not going to turn around their tie against Barcelona.

One more trophy is definitely possible, although I think City’s problem is that, because of the rigours of trying to win the Premier League, they will be on their knees by the end of the season.

Once you win one trophy, more follow.

You may be right there, Mark!

And Rosler says that Wigan have played 52 games already this season, more than any other English club.

And they have got a lot more to play.

Out of all cups, down to their lowest position in the table this season, I hope he gets his Ipad out and shows you how he’s managed that Mr Kenwright!

JR, Everton, obviously, didn’t play a league match this weekend.

They now have two league matches in hand. One win will take them into sixth place; two wins will take them into fifth place.

Everton will qualify for the Europa League if they finish in fifth or sixth place. Tottenham seem to have run out of steam, so Everton have everything to play for.

    They can also help Wigan’s cup run;

Sat 5 April Wigan v Leeds
Sun 6 April Everton v Arsenal
Tue 8 April Wigan v Millwall
    12/13 April Arsenal v Wigan
