Nevertheless, I used to look forward to matches when Bob was in charge.

I dreaded them whilst Coyle was here.

This is a Martinez thread started and extended weekly by Lostock. Isn’t he the Bobsessive one?

It was Coyle’s reign that I found difficult to bear. Life with Bob was never boring.

    He turned down Villa.

    He turned down Liverpool.

And all he left us with is the FA Cup.

Everton are winning games despite Martinez, with a lot of the traditionally stronger teams getting off to a poor start. Time will tell.

    Be careful, Lostock.

Horc doesn’t approve of us taking such a close interest in Everton!

But, then, it is your thread.

Horc, don’t get stroppy with me – it wasn’t me that started this ridiculous thread!

And I don’t wish misfortune on Martinez every week either.

I was at the Emirates in May – and I’d have been happy to be there today too.

I’d like to see a little more entertainment at the DW. I hope things will be looking up from now on.

It was asking too much of Wigan to win at Arsenal just three days after playing in the Cup Final.

This was a much happier occasion for Roberto. Everton even had more possession than Arsenal. And they achieved a draw without either Fellaini or Baines.

    I do like good football.

Bruce had a big budget. As other clubs were increasing their budgets, Martinez had to reduce his by 25%.

Roberto made the most of his limited resources – playing three at the back was an imaginative and brave tactic.

Bruce himself struggled at Sunderland, but is doing better at Hull. Roberto seems to have settled in quickly at Everton.

Wigan chairman Dave Whelan has revealed that Owen Coyle’s exit has cost the club “in the region of £500,000”.

Happy Christmas, Owen. At least you can afford another turkey!

28 November Wigan v Zulte Waregem

Juan Carlos Garcia is the only new injury concern for manager Owen Coyle. The Honduran returned from international duty with a high ankle strain – six weeks is the initial estimate of how long he’ll be missing.

Let’s see how Rosler gets on, shall we?

in reply to: rosler resigns #124516

We’ve got a reasonable squad with some very good players. It should be a superior Championship squad.

We want Rosler to provide the framework for them to work together and take advantage of their skills.

It’s not too late to make an impression on the Championship – and it’s the draw for the Third Round tomorrow.

    Knit one, purl one…

in reply to: Another Two for Blackpool #124501

So players are deliberately getting themselves sent off because Ince has cancelled Christmas leave?

It’s a ridiculous suggestion – I don’t know why people repeat this nonsense!

in reply to: whelan perfect call #124499
It is thought Martinez rejected a deal with Aston Villa worth around twice his current contract because of the faith chairman Dave Whelan has placed in him over the course of his time at Wigan

This indicates that Martinez did care! The next year, he turned down Liverpool.

So Martinez gave us two more years and a successful trip to Wembley.

He was always bound for greater things. We were lucky to have him for four years.

Was three at the back a safety first tactic? No, not at all. A bigger budget and a larger squad would have helped.

Martinez made the most of his limited resources. These actually got less as other clubs were spending more than ever before.
