Square pegs in round holes again. Mccarthur on right wing.
Coyle has tried Gomez, Maloney and McArthur on the right wing.
Isn’t there a right winger in the squad?

Have things changed because in my heady days of school football the whole point of being a midfield player was to prevent the opposition from mounting any form of attack and when yourself was in possesion you looked to form some sort of attack not hard really is it
Between you, you and donny have cracked it!
Well, we didn’t score and we didn’t win!
Manchester United 2-0
Bournemouth 1-0
Leicester 2-0
SV Zulte Waregem 0-0
Manchester City 5-0
Watford 1-0
Blackpool 1-0
Charlton 0-0That’s quite a run away from home!
It was a curious selection today. How did they line up – something like this?
13 Nicholls
17 Boyce 06 Rogne 25 Barnett 24 Perch
16 McArthur 07 McCann 08 Watson (Espinoza – 72′) 11 McClean (McManaman – 66′)
19 Powell 09 Holt (Fortuné – 76′)Still no goal, but nice to know Espinoza is still here.
We’ll have to score if we want to win.
After a poor start, Charlton are now having a better run;
Blackburn 0-1 Charlton
Charlton 0-0 Blackpool
Charlton 1-1 Nottingham ForestAston Villa and Everton now have 72 wins each from 197 league meetings.
Two teams with some history! This is the most-played fixture in the English top flight. Aston Villa have 72 wins to Everton’s 71 from the previous 196 league meetings.
Precisely! It takes two people to make a good pass. If there’s nobody in a position to receive a pass, then what can Gomez do but linger over the ball?
Similarly, what can McClean and McManaman do if there are no forwards waiting for crosses? No wonder they take on man after man until they lose the ball.
Teaching players the right thing to do in different situations is called coaching. Isn’t there anybody at the club who can do this?
Whoever told Watson to take all the free kicks and corners?
I simply don’t understand our tactics.
I’ve no idea what instructions Coyle gives to the players.
On the touchline, all he seems to say is Try harder!
Wigan are obviously unhappy in midfield – and it’s worrying if they have started criticizing one another in public.
I did think that Wigan – with the notable exception of Crainey – kept the ball on the ground and tried to play through midfield against Kazan. There were individual errors but they were playing a team far superior to most Championship teams – even though their best player was injured.
On Saturday, we started with two wingers, McClean and McManaman, but no forwards. We finished with two wingers and two forwards. At least, we would have if McClean hadn’t been sent off.
Last night, we started with a centre forward and a different winger (Beausejour). Coyle then took off the centre forward, brought on a different type of forward, Fortune, and reverted to the two wingers McClean and McManaman.
Perhaps Gomez is as puzzled as I am.
i can remember when gomez and watson couldn’t even get in the team at wiganWe’ve lost our two best midfield players – McCarthy (permanently) and Maloney (temporarily). That’s left space for Gomez and Watson.
Gomez replaced Di Santo at Everton in the cup tie last season. I think that he more or less kept Di Santo out of the first team after that.
We won the FA Cup with Gomez, McManaman and Watson. It was an interesting time.
It’s a strange characteristic of so-called fans that they go to matches to abuse their own players.
SV Zulte Waregem 0-0 Wigan Possession 61%/39%
Wigan 3-1 Maribor Possession 59%/41%
SV Zulte Waregem 1-3 Maribor Possession 55%/45%A very unlikely result – Maribor even had Milec sent off after 57 minutes.
Certainly a result to give Maribor hope.
Forwards are still available. Leeds United have signed Nottingham Forest striker Dexter Blackstock on loan until 25 January.
Fyvie was injured after twenty minutes of his Yeovil debut, suffering a shoulder injury when falling from a crunching Rohan Ince challenge.
He will miss the Nottingham Forest and Leeds United games, and cannot play in the next game against Wigan. -
