Sunderland are more likely to go straight for Coyle and buy out his contract.
Crouch would do for a few weeks.
Coming soon – the history of Hollands.
Sunday wasn’t the problem. We played badly and won.
The worry is that we will play like that in the future and not win.
And with the players available, we may well play like that again.
It wasn’t ugly – it was aimless. Which wasn’t a surprise since we had to play without our two strikers and our best midfield player.
It was a good performance from the lads available. But it was hardly a good Championship performance. On another day, Ipswich would have taken something out of the game.
We won’t always be so lucky. There is a reason why teams choose to play with a recognised forward. And why successful strikers cost so much.
Worryingly, we lacked possession too. Possession in recent games;
Zulte Waregem 61% Wigan 39%
Wigan 44% Leicester 56%Manchester City can field two first teams. Wigan can’t field one.
Manchester City ?% Wigan ?%
And just the way the Burnley fans treated Coyle when he left for Bolton.

Poole’s Pies, the Wigan bakery owned by veteran entrepreneur Dave Whelan has been sold in a pre-pack deal after a boardroom fall-out.
The company, which traces its roots back to 1847 and is said to be the oldest bakery in England, has been bought by Midland Bakery.
[Dave Whelan] confirmed he had put the business into administration and it had been sold immediately.
But we won’t get very far playing like this.
Got us three points.
That’s true. Which is three more than we got at Leicester with Fortune and Maloney.
Can he play centre forward?
But still undefeated!
The Honduras team, I presume.
Garcia was on the sub’s bench at Brugge.
I wouldn’t say that there was a plan for attack. They more or less kicked the ball forward for someone to chase.
If there was a defensive plan, then it relied upon Carson.
I’m not complaining – Coyle has clearly got limited choices. But we won’t get very far playing like this.
Perhaps he wanted Maloney to play at centre forward.
You may have to!
Leicester have taken this opportunity;
Leicester City have signed ex-Blackpool striker Gary Taylor-Fletcher on a one-year deal, reports BBC Radio Leicester. The 32-year-old spent six years with the Seasiders, but was a free agent after failing to agree a new contract at Bloomfield Road in the summer.
I think Coyle’s going to wrap Fortune in cotton wool, so I expect another surprise.
But who knows? It could be McManaman, Dicko or even Shotton.
