The new team should certainly perform better in the Championship than the old one did in the Premier League.
But I’m not yet convinced that we have replaced Figueroa, Alcaraz and Kone with better players.
How do you think the team will do at Wembley against Premier League opposition?
How much was the hotel they all sem a dear do and lt looks cheaper to fly there than go by trainCheck train fares on National Rail Journey Planner. It would be a challenge to get there and back in a day for a reasonable fare.
If you could catch the 17.22 back from Bournemouth, then two single tickets would come to £86.50. But catch the 17.45 back and it goes up to £113.50 for an off peak return.
Mixed fortunes for the Welsh teams last night, although – unlike some teams – they all avoided embarrassing scores.

FK Ventspils win on Away Goal RulePrestatyn now travel to Croatia to play HNK Rijeka next Thursday. That doesn’t give them, or their fans, much time to make their travel arrangements.
Prestatyn also win 130,000 euros for progressing through the first qualifying round, taking their Europa League prize money up to 250,000 euros.
Down their way.
What was I thinking of – I meant Di Santo of course.
That’s the trouble with foreign players – they all sound the same!
8,000 renewals already – that’s very good. We do need a good atmosphere.
But there won’t be many fans coming from Bournemouth and Yeovil – though there may be as many as came from Fulham.
The local derbies should compensate, especially if any of the clubs are towards the top of the table.
It’s the television rights that make the difference.
I’d expect attendances next season to be around 12,000.
Wigan were a Premier League club paying Premier League wages. They are now a Championship team with Championship income, plus parachute payments of course. They need to reduce the wage bill.
There may well be relegation clauses in players’ contracts, but it may also be necessary for some of the first team pool to leave. So it’s probably a good thing – financially – that some contracts have come to an end, including Figueroa, Alcaraz, Stam and Di Canio.
Some first team players will be sold too – Kone is just the first to go. So the transfers in and out of Wigan seem inevitable to me.
In these circumstances, I’m rather surprised that Wigan can afford to buy Grant Holt and then match the wages offered to him by Norwich. But perhaps Coyle thinks a proven goal scorer is the key to success.
This report looks at Holt’s statistics; The Downfall of Grant Holt; http://www.eplindex.com/35087/downfall-of-grant-holt-stats-comparison.html
Too late!
Kevin Davies has signed for Preston.
I’ve just come in.
Have I missed anything important?
What a rogue he was. Can you remember if he promised to win the cup?
I love a good conspiracy theory, especially when there is no evidence at all to support it!
Or should I just put it down to the hot weather?
The difference being Coyle improved Burnley’s league status, then left .I don’t mind criticism of Martinez. But I do object to unfair and untrue criticism.
I think that most people would agree that Coyle deserted Burnley, leaving them in a very perilous situation. They were indeed relegated at the end of the season. That’s not to say that Coyle – with very limited resources – could have saved them, but he didn’t stay to try.
Nigel Adkins would have liked the opportunity to stay at Southampton last season. But very few managers have the privilege of retiring. They may leave for another job, but most are sacked.
Although I do agree with you about calling Martinez a “thin waiter”, all the waiters I have met are honest honourable people who don’t f**k off to another restaurant if a plate of food gets dropped, they clear up the mess and serve the dish again.Waiter minute!
Surely this criticism – if it were true – would apply equally to Coyle, who deserted Burnley and wandered off to Bolton. For his next course, he saw the same thing going down at Bolton too.
Anyway, it’s food for thought.
I wonder if Dicko will play a more prominent part next season.
