Norwich apparently wanted £2 million from Melbourn Heart.
Crainey, Pollitt and now Holt.
We’ve already got Boyce – we might as well buy Kevin Davies too!
Aren’t there any good young players coming through?
Grant Holt and Rickie Lambert played together for Rochdale in League Two.
He’s older than Crainey!
But not as old as Pollitt.
So now we may have four keepers!
Al Habsi, Pollitt, Nicholls and Carson.
Have the rules changed?
I would have a look at the Blackpool defence.Meanwhile, Wigan are preparing for life without the Spanish boss as new manager Owen Coyle is signing former Blackpool left-back Stephen Crainey on a free.
Perhaps Owen just hasn’t had any bids for him yet.
Lots of questions, I know, but how long will Al Habsi be out for? Has Coyle seen Nicholls play?
We do want to get off to a good start, but do we really need to buy a replacement?
Couldn’t we get an experienced keeper on loan for the period – Robinson, for example, or Rob Green or perhaps Reina or Brad Jones?
And yes, I do know, they have all made mistakes!
Deleted – mistaken identity, I think!
There are rumours that West Brom are interested in Kone and Di Santo. I thought that they struck up a good partnership.
Di Santo does play with Messi – in the Argentina national team.
Gomez was born in Barcelona and signed for them as a youth player. He played for Martinez at Swansea before signing for Wigan.
That’s a lot of money for a reserve keeper. Perhaps he would be first choice, although Coyle professes himself to be a fan of Al Habsi.
It would be odd to have two experienced goalkeepers on the books – one is bound to be unhappy.
It’s usual to have a younger or older understudy. This arrangement would give little opportunity for Nicholls to progress.
The Independent Friday 17 May
Monday’s post-match press conference was not the first occasion on which Poyet had gone public on the fact that Brighton’s playing budget was in the bottom half of Championship payrolls. However, although the relative shortage of cash at Brighton was cited in reports of his interest in the Reading job following the dismissal of Brian McDermott in March, The Independent understands that Poyet has also been dissatisfied with other aspects of the belt-tightening at the club in preparation for Financial Fair Play rules that come into effect next season. He is believed to have told the players at a meeting on Tuesday that he could give no guarantees about his future and would not be compiling the retained list, which was released today.
If we had Sir Alex’s budget, we could play Sir Alex’s way.
It might be useful to be able to defend. a couple of proper full-backs would be good. That depends on the formation that you want to play, and on the formation of your opponents too. If there isn’t an opposing winger, what is the purpose of a full back?
Doyle is crap, he’s found his level, he’ll probably still be lucky to hit 10 this season.FAI Under 21 International Player of the Year 2005
PFA Championship Team of the Year 2005–06
Reading Player of the Season 2005–06
FAI Young International Player of the Year 2006
Football League Championship Player of the Month September 2008
FAI Senior International Player of the Year 2008, 2010
FAI International Goal of the Year 2010And he doesn’t miss many games – he played in every one for Wolves last season.
Doyle and Long played together at Reading.
