I personally think Mario is the finest footballer we have on the squad, maybe the finest ever. He isn’t perfect, Maybe the legs are not what they were but still, if they were he would probably still be at Chelski.
He very rarely wastes the ball and links well going forward.
Figeroua has been playing pap because he is unsettled……..
He is a good player but he wants to go to Sunderland imho.
He probably doesn’t want to give it his all at the moment fearing injury. Plus if he plays really well Latics might try to wack up his price and put Sunderland off.
This just about puts in a nutshell the biggest problem we have….player retention.
Edman was woeful against Blackpool…..mind you it was diffcult to single anyone out that night.

Before Mr Logic got all upperty that’s basically the point I was trying to make. We need to accept that expecting any points from the Big 4 is most unlikely. We have I believe run up 4 points out of a possible 100 and odd (I was off the day they did sums at our school). Imho we should put all our eggs in one basket and concentrate on the teams who we should be able to compete with.
Some people have short memories. Can’t they remember the moaning we were doing about the team playing their socks off against the top 4 and then seeming not to give a fook when they weren’t in the spot light against the other teams. The feeling at the time was they were all just trying to put themselves in the shop window. Massively disrespectful to the fans!“No-one seems to care. I don’t think we are quite at that stage yet Griff……the bunch of players who got tonked by Wrexham were really taking the Michael out of Jewell on a biblical scale. I would hope the current crop can see the folly in trying the same with RM. I’m willing to give it to November before making my mind up on that.

If the team had shown a little more passion and committment to the cause in the games the equivalent I mentioned I don’t think goal difference would have come into it.
How many points have we ever won against a top 4 team, and how many points have we dropped over the last few seasons through losing to teams we should beat, especially at home.
Go work it out and come back to me if I’m wrong….

I also see where you are coming from, but for me the top 4 are not Premier League teams..they, with the assistance of Sky money have out grown this league.
The sooner they all fark off to some Super league the better.
At the start of the football season there was a time when virtually any team had a chance of winning the top league…..not any more.
I am totally not arsed about any of the results against the “top 4”.
What used to frustrate me was when our lot would play their hearts out against the top 4 then still get beaten, and then seem to not put the graft in when we played one of the less high profile teams…
Like someone said the other day I would play the reserves and the kids in all 8 matches against the top four.
Its the games against Portsmouths, Hulls and Burnleys etc etc I want to see our lot play their hearts out in.
I also see the sarcasm in Mr Tashs post…
Prepare to get another drubbing at New Springfield on Saturday and then maybe we can have a go at playing someone in our own league.
Get no points from Hull and things will start to become clear.
Then its another twotting by New Chelski (citee)

If the team haven’t gelled by then they probably never will and we will be going down quicker than Shiffnall Street Suzy! Thats what I reckon any road.
I’d be right up for that Mr Tash….but no doubt we’d get points docked or summert for not playing our strongest team.

I’d start with the next game V Chelsea. Pretty much a non event for us.
We could rest up the players for The Hull game which is more important.A good post Standishwalker, but I think we are all looking into the attendances problem a bit too much.
The credit crunch is having a massive impact on everyone these days and not just Wigan fans…
Watch virtually any football match outside home games for the top 4 and you will see empty banks of seats around those grounds. Something you would never have seen 3/4 seasons back.
Folk are just proper broke and cutting back on non essentials.
I know our ground looks terrible on the TV, but we have to face the fact we have a small fan base, so when you knock off 25% of it, it will seem to have a bigger impact.
Look at the following for the West Ham game last Saturday….I reckon they were about 2k down on their usual following (not having a dig at them btw it was still a decent following for the current times).
We all used to go on when we were in the lower leagues about how when we got to the “promised land” :roll: our attendances would bloom and we would have a full stadium all the time. Well apart from a couple of games in our first season that has never happened. There are a few reasons for that….Whelan putting the prices up in the second season knocked the keenness out of a lot of folk, the constant failure to build on a team and instead having to rebuild every season has pished many a fan off. Poor hoof ball football being played for good parts of our time in the prem. The taking away of the supporters club especially the kiddies club and sticking folk in a gym is having an effect. But above all it’s the credit crunch hitting us hard in an area already riddled with unemployment.
But like I have always said numbers don’t always make for a good atmosphere…give me 12,000 proper Latics fans in the ground any day above 20,000, when a huge number of them are day trippers or even worse only there to watch the other team.

I hope Kapos form last season was because he didn’t fit in well with SB style. I suspect there is a good player in there somewhere.
Either road he has made it clear in the past he doesn’t want to be here, so I think the best we can realistically hope for is he tries like billyo and gets some other team interested in him come January. :roll:
Whatever happens, when he is wearing the shirt on the pitch, he needs our support.
