Do you never get bored of playing the same ones though? Be a better crack playing a Benfica or an Ajax surely! A year away from ‘groundhog season’ playing Bolton, Burnley, Blackburn, Blackpool et al before returning would hardly be that big a deal. Who knows? A few on here may actually begin to enjoy their football again!
Would have been given at Old Trafford for sure. Played well today for me. 58% possession second half with little goal threat says it all. Just watched Swansea on MOTD. They play similar to us but have real cutting edge. Still think with more belief and if we get Kone firing we will be OK. We are a better side than Reading and Villa but I guess talks cheap!
Lawro 2-0. Hogan 40-1.
“it’s going to be like an NFL game, the score is going to be sky high” says the one with the sad mustache.
Must be off his head – we’ll never score…
Didn’t Hulk Hogan use to be Chief Exec at Wigan Warriors?[/quote]
Was that not Melvyn Leatherbarrow?
On aye he wants to play at Wigan! Refused to sign contract as he was looking for champions league football playing in midfield. Since then he went to West Brom where he performed pretty average before ending up in the reserves for a mid-table German side. Hobson’s choice for both of us.
How bad was the defending for their second goal? Macmanaman powder puff (looks out of his depth in Prem every time he comes on) then one player ghosts in past 5 defenders in our 6 yard box. Both full backs looked easy to get past all afternoon whilst Lambert reminded us what its like to have a proper centre forward.
I saw it. 20 lads aged between 18-30 from Southampton decided to come round with no police in sight shouting ‘where are ya Wigan?’ and came looking for a fight just as you cross over bridge. The majority on the bridge were families and young kids but that didnt stop them attacking folk. They then started spitting on fans. Few lone Wiganers retaliated. Punches were thrown then last I saw these southern hardmen were fighting with a local woman in her late 20s who squared up to them. Take it all round it was pretty pathetic. Still dont understand why we have no police presence given its always possible trouble could occur there. All it takes a few pricks in a pack to behave like bullies.
My last stat was actually wrong. Given one final featured two English teams the facts are we have had 8 out of 8 English teams in last 8 CL finals with us having 3 different winners in this time. In addition to this as stated the league gets the most investment from television companies seeking what I would imagine is ‘entertainment’ for their global audiences. Still. Forget all the facts. Lets talk delusion! Lets insist the league has now been overtaken by the Bundesliga, is in a terminal decline and all CL records should be eradicated as English teams won their Finals on penalties. Deal?
and how many of those “finalists” actually WON the thing?????l’pool (pens)lucky
man yoooo(pens)lucky
chelsea(pens)very luckyvery entertaining!
What a boring, un entertaining match it was Liverpool v Milan. How many goals do you want?
Opinions should be based on facts. The facts are that the a Premier league has provided finalists in 7 out of 8 Champions league finals. More than any other country. Given thats the only competition where the respective leagues play each other its fair to say our league is at worst on a par with la liga.
Mate of mines an Everton fan and says you only took 700 to Goodison. Just found the proof. Seems a few of your fans are embarassed Mutty. Fancy a club your size and history (well for those of you that are in your 70s) having such pitiful away support!

You’ve had good away followings in your time. You’ve had a few shite ones too.
Get over it. We have!
Match will definitely be on. An hour ago on my way home from working in Canock I dropped through Macclesfield and it was lashing down with rain. All snow (and there wasnt much) was being washed away. Not a chance it will be off.
Looks a really reputable report. Like Ramis was on bench 5 days after an operation on his cruciate. Then he was there squaring up to Boyce on crutches. And despite Boyce having a good season he is now about to sign for Leeds or Wolves. Aye alreet.
Mate of mine from Wigan has lived in Bounemouth and took 5 of his mates in our end. Not sure he’s a diehard. First game in 5 years!
Talking of diehards. Was anyone there in 93 when we were already relegated for that 0-0 thriller? Some blokes made a coffin and dressed an inflatable doll in a replica match winner Latics top before throwing it off the pier. Oh and Alan Fairhurst (famous Springfield park steward) knocked 3 pints over a Bournemouth fan in the club before the match whilst showing a fellow Latic where the programmes were being sold.
At Fulham last weekend I reckon I counted at least 30-40 who were that day in 93 who still go home and away now. Can’t imagine many of those lads and lasses moaning about us being 3 points from 15th in the top league. Bloody hell we’ve had a good doo!
All a bit strange a team placed geographically like Sunderland (with only one other team in the top league anywhere near them) criticising our crowds! On the example cited you could argue Bolton given their history are a much bigger side and much more attractive than bloody Bournemouth. Still 35% is a superb turn out for such a massive club with a 49000 capacity stadium. A better comparison may be the time you played Colchester a couple of years ago and got 13,500 on. 27% by my reckoning. Hardly impressive for a club as big as yours!
I wouldn’t bother with all this crowd comparison nonsense MD. Your fans have always been as fickle as anyones. You lose 10 to 15k every time you go down. On the other hand we have one of the largest expanding fan bases in the country. As Bobby said last year:
”We have trebled our crowds but never lost our family feel. If i am not wrong we have 11,000 season ticket holders, which is a seventh of Wigan’s population. If other football clubs had that ratio, their grounds would not be big enough. From the inside, we know that where we were 10 years ago to where we are now”
Youre just a big fish in a small pond. Why has your ‘massive club’ not won a major trophy for 40 years?
Enjoy the rest of your weekend! :woohoo:
