And Wolves soon did bounce back into the championship. Did they get rid of both a Premiership squad and a Championship squad when they had done the drop or did they have faith in their players to get them back up. A few months ago we looked at our squad and thought well we could do OK even after releasing players out of contract and short term players. Surely with what we had then and a couple of new faces we could have done OK. But now after getting shut of the lot and bringing in a stack of journeymen and other rejects together with no prior match practice and expecting them to gel into a strange system is expecting too much at the mo. Maybe after Christmas but if not by then expect another cull in January. I think Wolves still had some of their prem squad in league one.
Garys idea…mmm let’s see!
If I copy everything that Uncle Bob did everything will be great.Thing is if Grant Holt was fit he would be sold, given a strke partner and would be banging in 15 to 25 goals in for his new club just like he as done throughout his career. Well that was before he landed here but yes if he was fit and had a strike partner and we played real football he would do it for us but him and Huws fit will be sold.
Good points Mr Garswood but why only play 5 pre season games? Surely pre-season should be a little more than the boss looking at players playing in positions. We pissed off to Spain with players who we have got shut of. These players were obviously in the shop window and we had probably informed the football world these players were available so they shouldn’t have been near the team. The ones we knew that would be in the side today should have been playing 90 minutes regularly before today. The whole pre-season exercise has been a complete waste of time. Another point is loan players playing ahead of our contract players is shit and shouldn’t happen. These loanees are temporary and do nothing towards the side gelling together as in a month or so they won’t be here. Pointless. The whole frigging thing is shambolic at best but I shall be there backing the lads in the next pre season exercise on Tuesday.
Time to stop talking about the Martinez way, playing the Martinnez way and even thinking the Martinez way. Talk the Latics way, play the Latics way and think the Latics way, and that is more like the Jewell and Bruce way. End walking the ball out of defence, end passing around in defence, end lone strikers or midfielder pretending to be strikers. Come on get these bunch of journeymen tuned in to the Latics way or look at another Martinez style relegation.
He will get a muted clap out of respect from me. But no homecoming hero welcome from me. He after all did decide Oystons dollar meant more to him than Latics dollar who with respect have kept Boycey in a fantastic lifestyle for a long time now.
I think any of us would but it just wouldn’t be them. Our squad has been put together and down graded for one reason alone and that is cost. Players wages and nothing else. Like that or loathe it, that is the main and underlying reason.
If Huws, Holt and even Cowie had been fit they would be on the out list and watch out for Barnet, McKay and McCann being on it soon to be replaced with a couple or three who had slid out of Brighton or Rotherham’s reserves or a couple of loanees from Swansea.
God knows what will happen if we are in the bottom four at Christmas, will we be selling and loaning out the latest journeymen and bringing in even shitter journeymen for the fourth tier. Bloody hope not but who would have ever dreamed of last years scenario.
Murray from Watford. Who the frig is that?? and why a loanee from bloody Watford?? Bet he is minted!
McNaughton, well at least it’s adding a bit of youth to the squad.
Should be around 22k or more seats free so not much chance of missing out on a ticket.
Timed my holidays to make myself available for this game. Looking forward to it.No Egg just very cautious about expecting too much from a squad that is virtually new. What I am meaning is that a first choice consistent starting eleven will be a while off and a consistent starting eleven is what we will need to make positives strides in the right direction. Our squad as a squad have had so little match practice together and will need to get used to each other. I reckon for the number in the squad five friendlies hasnt been enough so the first few weeks will be about experimenting and changing, in a sort of pre season after the season has started. So Egg not written off but just cautious.
Surely there must be pay at the gate for this match.
Well that sounded positive and hopefully when they gell together and play in position then it may be more than just finding safety first.
