I’m looking forward to winning more than we lose in the Championship and enjoying the buzz of winning regularly again.

The logic of this makes no sense. You want to see Wigan win regularly yes? But that would (hopefully) lead to promotion and then getting mullered every week. If it doesn’t lead to promotion then I imagine we lose in the play offs/get knocked out in the play offs every season?

There isn’t a single team in the Championship that is happy just staying there, all 24 teams have long term ambitions to get promotion. We can’t just be satisfied with ‘winning more than we lose’, we must try and get promotion whilst the whole club still has the Premier League mentality and believes the Prem is where we belong. The longer we go without promotion, the more we’ll accept that we are a Championship club (like Ipswich, Leeds, Middlesbrough etc have).
Maybe we are a Championship club because we were certainly punching well above our weight in the Prem, particularly the last few seasons !

Aye but with parachute payments and the money in assets in our squad you would hope we would be in the top 8 surely. Who else can boast of a potential income of 40 million if we sell Mcarthy and Kone in the Championship?

          I will be there yes.

It’s yet another historic occasion for our club. The Charity Shield is a game of football that is basically reserved for the 2 elite clubs in England. A. The Premier League Champions and B. The FA Cup Champions.

Just to be a part of this match no matter what the circumstances of the game itself is an honour for our club.

A 3rd visit to Wembley from as low as £25 a ticket with return train tickets around £20-£30 is very affordable.

Another addition to our trophy cabinet? Let’s hope so.

Links for £20-£30 return train tickets please !
keep your eyes and ears open Fil, we went for a night stop over and train for the final, cost £45. B)
I got a lift down and stopped with friends and then got the Mega Bus home on the Sunday for a tenner ! :cheer:

As Coyle put it: Coyle 7 Martinez 1. Nuff said.

Coyle was a little naughty in his first interview! In Premier League games, Coyle and Martinez actually come out even.

Played 7, Coyle won 2, drawn 3, Martinez won 2

There were two more FA Cup games; the first was drawn, Coyle won the replay.

And Coyle struggled just as much as Martinez in the Premier League.

            Coyle 2011/12 18 Bolton Wanderers (R) 38 10 6 22 46 77 −31 36
            Martinez 2012/13 18 Wigan Athletic (R) 38 9 9 20 47 73 –26 36

It’s Coyle, let’s get over it. There’s no need to bring Martinez into it, but if you must, then get your facts right!

I certainly hope to see more home wins this season, but that is because we – like Bolton – are now in the Championship, not because we have a new manager.
I also would not swap the cup for survival and didn’t bat an eyelid when we went down or griped on here when it became final ! What I do know is that there are some on here who would have give it extra large if we had somehow have stayed up and most certainly would have said ” I told you so ” ! The thing is this forum is no different than any other football club forum and so the Lightside/Darkside comparison if anything just fuels more squabbles and singles out certain people which at the end of the day is not a healthy thing is it ! The drop may see our home crowds drop but I am pretty confident that our away support will grow which won’t be a bad thing going off Prem away support which to be fair was not the best was it ! Deep down there are many that have exhaled a massive sigh of relief at finally succumbing to relegation and I am one of them hence my lack of eyelid batting ! So, Weregoingtobarnsley ! What were the chances of that happening eh ( well 1 in 23 actually )!

A meaningless friendly that will not even interest a full allocation of Utd fans let alone Wigan fans ! Do they think we are fuckin made of money ! A big NO from me but I will no doubt use it as an excuse to go to the pub !

I originally put money making trophy completely ignoring the operative word ” Charity ” ! I am sure however that some fucker will line their pockets though !

I guess that some of us could see how things were unfurling before our very eyes whilst others refused to accept it ! It was mid January when I realised that we would more than likely go down and despite a very brief period of hope ( 1 week ) my fears were eventually confirmed ! Darkside ? No. realist ? Yes ! ;)

Bravo Mystic Meg, there is a difference to believing we will go down and wanting to believe we will stay up. personally I have loved the bumpy ride that was Martinez reign, and accepted the relegation when it came.

The thing the darkside will never understand is supporting your team and enjoying it while it lasts. being a defeatest and accepting fates before they have come to pass. Must have been a sad old time for you.

Shoudl have had your money on us for the cup at the start of the season 500-1 lol
If the truth be known, the FA Cup win papered over the cracks of a pretty disappointing final Premiership campaign that ultimately ended with us bailing out ! I wanted us to survive but saw hardly anything to give me hope and that is what I wrote, say what you see ! Bar the FA Cup there was not too much to enjoy about last season especially the the home form which was dire to say the least ! If you chose to suppress the very fact that we played like a relegation destined side then fair enough but deep down I knew that our 8 year stint was coming to an end but it was far far from a sad old time for me because I had more or less accepted the fact and was prepared !
So had all the Lightsiders, but they didn’t keep faffing on about it like spoilt kids. B) :P
Do you really want me to dredge up some of your super confident of avoiding the drop nuggets JR !! :cheer:
Go ahead Phil by all means go for it. Do you really think I am ashamed of backing my team through thick and thin, its what a true supporter does isn’t it? B)
So you didnt walk away from the DW on numerous occasions last season thinking ” Well that was shit ” did you not ? I did but it didn’t mean that I had not just got behind my team for 90mins and tried to gee them on ! Oh I did my bit, alas the team didn’t do theirs and down they went ! So I did back them through thick and thin, the difference being that I am not a one dimensional person and I have opinions that were deemed to be negative yet with hindsight realistic which is the whole point of my thread ! You keep smiling and nodding and I will form opinions !
I think if you ask the lads I go to games with, they will tell you that I am usually the one who walks off the DW giving credit to the side that’s took 3 points of us and pointing out were I think we’ve gone wrong. Within a couple of hours after the game I’ve kicked the cat, bit the wife’s head off, clod half mi tea in the bin and on my 4th pint, I start looking forward to the next game and the positive vibes come back.
Do I feel the need to come on here slagging the manager, chairman, players off….err no.
Do I bite when the D/S come on winging like fek…….unfortunately yes.
You see I’ve been used to defending my club over the years from cheap jibes from chubster fans and the big club followers.
It just pishes me orf when our own fans do it to a degree teetering on hatred, not that you are in that catagory.

You seem to be a poster who changes your views depending on the outcome of each game almost.

I remember Griff saying a while back that if we go down, you just know that the D/S’s will be in their element bleating on about “I told you so”
So well done, you told me so and well done for having a realistic opinion, great stuff pal.
Not really saying I told you so. I was looking back ( Hence thread title )because I was looking at the users list Karma standings and wondered who this ‘Revolution Saint’ person was with a karma of 5 and I got it into my head that they were a RL fan due to the name. I also noticed that there were a couple of the RL posters with positive karmas and so I clicked on RS’s posts and my ” And Then There Were 4 ” thread was one they had posted on ! ( Are you following me ! ha ha ha ) Anyhow, to cut a short story long I thought I would highlight a little bit of blind faith that was going on because we were playing pretty badly at the time ( Winless in last 6 and just been dicked 4-1 by Chelsea )and I was fearing the worst. As it happens we won 3 of the next 4 and it looked like I would emerge with egg on my face but a poor April reignited my initial fears. Anyhow, at the end of the day I was bored ha ha ha Oh and I told ya so ! :cheer:
Yes Phil, but you were trying to make yourself look a little bit smug and clever when, ironically, all you have done is make yourself look a little bit daft.
Smug? No. Clever? No. Correct? Yes. I was berated for daring to say that we may be heading for the trapdoor and berated for saying that with hindsight I was right to have formed that opinion ! Listen, The Darkside were right all along and The Lightside tried to worm their way out of it with a few chestnuts that simply did not wash with us ! ha ha ha ;) This season it would appear that I am on The Lightside for now but if I feel a need to opine for whatever reason then I will, after all that is what a forum is for ! ” They don’t like it up em Mr Mainwaring ” ! ha ha ha

                      Player

There isn’t room in a modern team for a specialist player – like a conventional fullback, a pure winger or a goal poacher.

                        Of course there is.

There are a range of different forwards throughout football and recognising their strengths is the first step to getting the best out of them.

Kone would track back to receive the ball while laying it off allowing Mcmanman and Maloney to convert from a midfield position to a forward.

Its something Martinez had previously tried with Scotland & Moreno which failed terribly.

He recognised Rodallega is not the man for that role so tried to play him as an inside forward (sorry for the championship manager talk).

To simply dismiss the fact that different players offer different roles and tactics available to a team is naive.

I think if you had Kone playing a similar role and Boselli playing off him with Mcmanman and Jeany B hammering balls into the box in a conventional 442 with wingers then you would see the best of him.

Kone had to work so hard for his 12 goals it was ridiculous at times!

The only two times I can remember having any real width in our team under Martinez is when the 3-4-3 formation took everyone by surprise and Boyce and Jeany B could hammer balls in for fun and when we started playing Mcmanaman who likes to run to the line and hit one in the box.

I think Martinez was thinking there was enough players in midfield who can hit a killer through ball to utilise his good movement off the ball and see him through on goal.

Sadly the only player who has that sort of vision for us is Gomez who probably would have been hung in Wigan town center if it had gone to a vote.
There is a reason for his 8yr contract but I cant really go into details about it on here ! Lets just say Pardew has a few debts to pay off to a certain ‘Mr Big’ ! :S
