My reply was concise and to the point. Why should we settle for stagnation just because we came from the depths of lower league football. Piemons riposte was indeed heartfelt and sincere but he did indeed admit to having blind faith and whilst some fans are just grateful to be where we are now regardless of position or state of squad there are some of us JCL’s and stalwarts alike who would like a little bit more from our players. I happen to think that we have enough talent in the squad to survive but the right balance has not been found yet and that is down to the manager to work the oracle with what he has. This thread was not intended as a wind up but to point out that even big clubs like Liverpool have very similar rifts amongst their fans. There are fans on here who vent their spleen at crap performances only to be told by others to stop moaning and look how far we have come and other old chestnut sayings ! I have never been vitriolic in my posts but just because I have only been watching for 10 years doesn’t mean that I cant have an opinion or point out evidence of underachieving by certain players. Back to the never rest on your laurels,if you didn’t understand the adage then fine but don’t try and make out that I’m some sort of idiot. Nothing wrong at all wanting progression when it is a feasible goal but to be content for the sake of it due to history and the size of the club is counter-productive in my eyes ! 8 seasons in the Prem and we are still the whipping boys ! Whilst some of the old guard are happy with their lot some of us newer editions are more eager to properly establish ourselves in the top tier of English football, properly being the operative word ! We need to carry on building the fanbase for the future of the club and staying in the Prem and doing well in the Prem will indeed bring new fans, just accepting whatever happens because you support the team and getting mad with fans who are frustrated at the shite they are watching does not make you a better supporter. I will be there still if we go down but many wont and even though you will still be happy with your lot, your acceptance of how small we are and how far we have come etc will not fill the clubs coffers with much needed funds from fans and tv deals. I think the fans who want more success are the fans that will see this club prosper and the next generation of fans that come in will be like minded I hope !
Never rest on your laurels !
Personally I thought the singing and dancing at half time was pretty funny and enjoyable especially considering we were 3-0 down.
That’ll be the East Stand Egg? In the West Stand they only dance in the queue for the bog at half time.
Now that is quite funny …for you ! :)
This tells a different tale and is probably more realistic !
Did Terry not get sent off against Barcelona in last years comp! Chelsea duly got on with the task in hand and scored twice to dump Barcelona out ! The thing with Utd and their fans is that they feel they have some sort of stranglehold on all things football when in fact they are just a debt riddled club who are king amongst shits ! Both the German and Spanish leagues piss all over the Prem in my opinion !
All those fans left because we were 3-0 down and playing absolutely shocking what do they expect ? As for the booing of players, I have never heard any individual players being booed but they have all been booed off several times this season both at half time and at full time ( Yes I do stay to the end sometimes ! ) but they only have themselves to blame for getting a reaction like that !
What do they expect? They expect support Phil. That’s why we don’t have a Wigan Athletic Detractors Club.
Never heard individual players being booed but heard them booed off???? Are one of the Dave From Skems? You are making no sense.
Read my post again as I said ” All booed off ” ! Makes perfectly good sense and I know deep down that I don’t have to elucidate any further to you Griff. Stop being facetious it doesn’t suit you, a bit like that Next Bretonesque top you had on when I last saw you ! ;)
So, it’s acceptable to boo them all off, but not individuals? Oh well, as long as they can feel shit as a group, then!
Please don’t lecture me on fashion.
If people want to show their disapproval I guess it is their prerogative, they have paid good money out at the end of the day. I myself have never booed but booing has been a way of showing displeasure since the days of the ancient Greeks, they should think themselves lucky that they don’t get slaughtered or have rotten fruit chucked at them ! They are on wages that surely must help them develop a thick skin and if I was playing and got booed it would make me question my performance and I would do my utmost best to rectify the situation ! Like I said, booing has been around for over a thousand years and as long as folk continue to feel dissatisfied with certain situations then I’m afraid that it will be around for the unforeseeable future ! It’s just the way of the World, you do well you get applauded, you do shit then disparagement reigns free ! I wouldn’t say boo to a goose would I ! ;)
One of my favourite bands ! ha ha

The season on a whole as been awful 2 home wins so far tells the sorry story, the Martinez luvies can dress it up how they like we are shite :silly:
I don’t get how people don’t just see it how it is, and the fact that we have been god awful all season. It’s so so shite.
I am sure that any other club and their fans would’ve gone mad about it. Perhaps its down to the mentality of Wiganers? I mean, if you go back years to the 1920’s miners strike, Wigan miners were the first to break the picket lines and return to work, thus accepting the same poor pay and conditions that all miners were on strike for in the first place. (hence the nickname ‘pie eaters’ as they had to eat humble pie)
So even then, Wiganers had putting up with shite in their make up, where as elsewhere they held out and got better pay and conditions.
So Wiganers have history of putting up with shit.
It could be that the majority of the fans are level headed enough to realise that we are where we are due to crowds finances etc etc it is a select few who seem to have turned into Newcastle fans going beserk because they are not spending vast amounts of money and paying high wages
Now then how come we have won more away this season than we have at home ??
Are you actually suggesting that the home fans have had an adverse effect on our players ? I have yet to see any banners or hear any chants that have been in any way derogatory to our team or manager.
Not really but fans leaving well before the end of a game and so called fans booing players must lift them tremendously
I cant decide between Ebony or the cougar !
Why don’t you all just wait and see who he picks and how he lines them up eh ! All I can say is I hope that they put up a better show than the last selection did !
What is spelt wrong ? Nothing.
What has me choosing to leave early have to do with having an opinion on apparent discord ( Correct spelling ) amongst players ?It’s just that your judgement is suspect. Like posting poster’s workplaces on a public forum without their approval.
So no spelling mistakes then? I was also under the impression that my faux pas was now considered to be behind us and a line drawn under it !

What has me choosing to leave early have to do with having an opinion on apparent discord ( Correct spelling ) amongst players ?Not really that bothered ! I was pissed, pissed off, cold and dying for a cig so we all just upped and went to the Brick which was full of like minded folk on our arrival who had actually left before half time !
I wonder why we play so badly as home -what, with our partisan support an’ all!
The damage had well and truly been done when we left for sure !
