I hope so!
If everyone on the pitch played really well and we still got beat 2-0 by a poor Villa side then I can only deduce that we are not good enough for this division and at the end of the day the table doesn’t lie! We can’t keep bemoaning refereeing decisions every time we get beat! 13 home games without a goal out of 19 played has got to be some sort of record surely?
A poor Villa side, really? Just check how much they spent in the January transfer window. They beat us 2-0 because they finished 2 chances out of the 3-4 they had, we finished zilch out of the 4-5 chances we had, two of them one on ones with the keeper.
Scott Hogan, who can’t hold a regular place yet at Villa cost £15m, Bogle cost us £750k plus add ons.
I thought we showed a lot of grit and determination on saturday, you can’t bemoan a team losing when giving their all and getting done in the latter stages from goals from two players that cost £23m.
Its not been good enough this season we all know that, but talk about kicking them when they are down. FFS
Like I said, we are not good enough for this division!

Any positives? They scored against the run of play yada yada yada? The 12th blank at home this season from 19 home games, some record is that!
Villa on the whole have been pretty shit away from home this season and we on the whole have been pretty shit at home and so 0-0 seems a fair prediction, good luck lads and wrap up well!
The FA Cup Final victory was a massive achievement for our club, and will live forever in the hearts and minds of all Latics fans.It may not have been the greatest of upsets with it being two PL sides, but to Latics fans it was and always will be the greatest day ever in our time supporting our fantastic club.
The fact that we actually got to the FA Cup Final was probably more shocking than everything that followed especially when you consider the season we had had trying to fend off relegation.
I personally thought our cup run would end at the first hurdle when Bournemouth held us at home, I never expected us to win the replay.
In all your years watching us did any of you ever really expect to watch the Latics in a FA Cup Final, never mind to actually go on and win the bloody thing? I still find it a bit unbelievable.
Once we got into the Prem and especially getting to the League Cup final in that first season, yes I did believe we were capable of getting to an FA Cup final because the big clubs invariably play weakened sides! The whole point I was trying to make was that we should be capable of holding our own in The Championship these days and something has clearly gone wrong! Bad management of the club is to blame in my opinion!
Losing by 1 to Bristol makes us look very good. We should win tomorrow based on that logic!!(but don’t ask me what the logic is)!!
Well seeing as the score against Bristol City was 1 0 then I can only assume that your logic is Boolean logic! ;)
After the Bristol result tonight nothing less than a win will do.
Are the mods not making a prediction then?
They will when they have finished cleaning their Lambrettas and Vespas ! :)
We were a Prem side in our 8th consecutive season, not quite the ‘Roy Of The Rovers’ story some make out in my book! Of course City had spent millions upon millions on their squad and yes they were long odds on favourites but the FA Cup provides shocks from time to time! If we had been in a lower division then yeah but come on, we were established in the top flight of English football! Now I know that we struggled the majority of the time in the Prem and eventually capitulated but I do think from our time spent in the Prem that we should now actually be a club that should be able to hold it’s own in the Championship! Alas, since our fall from grace there has been a plethora of bad business dealings and decisions by the club, some quite eye opening and in my opinion bordering on amateuristic! We are not that ‘Little Wigan’ anymore, we have a stadium that holds about 25000 and the last 15 years have seen Mr Whelan’s cash injection come to fruition! I just think that handled better the club could be doing a hell of a lot better than what it has been. Forget the days of old, they are history! Forward thinking is the way forward ( See what I did there!)
See you at Goole !
I find it quite pathetic that so called fans seem to dismiss the achievement of winning the FA Cup as nothing particularly special. Yes we were enjoying our eighth season in the PL but for most of that time were we escaping relegation by the skin of our teeth, so hardly established in that sense.
Leaving aside Portsmouth’s win in 2008 when they were spending mega bucks at the time and finished 8th in the league, which incidentally bankrupt the club and who are now languishing in the 4th tier, the last time an unfashionable club won the cup was Wimbledon in 1988, some 25 years earlier. That was before the PL was invented and the billionaires got involved so hardly a good comparison.
So until another unfashionable “established” PL club comes along and wins the thing – and it won’t happen this season – I will consider our FA Cup win to be up there as one of the all-time remarkable achievements.
Completely misinterpreted what I was saying…..Again! The FA Cup WAS superb but in the context of things not your ‘Roy Of The Rovers’ kind of story seeing as we had been in the Prem for 8 seasons but you will continue to try and chip away at me won’t you Samantha! Loosen that tie! Look at some of the runners up over the last 15 or so years, some pretty unfashionable clubs in there who could have pulled off a shock like us and yes it was a shock that we won it but just NOT that massive a shock! By the way, the old ‘Portsmouth’ tale is getting a little hackneyed now! We are NOT Portsmouth, our club has been run completely differently to them albeit a bit badly of late!

Can you ask them why Barrow is still chief coach despite a turnover of several managers? Why do new managers never seem to bring their own backroom staff with them these days!
Our last two manager have no assistants or coaches to bring with them!
True but if the others are anything to go by I feel it would have been business as usual! Sharpe has now hinted at Barrow getting the managers job full time! I just don’t get why he is still here despite the changes ?
I for one am concerned if Sharpe did indeed say this! Self destruct button merchants!
It certainly put it into perspective for me just how terrible we have been at home! Also forgot to mention the 12 home games out of 18 that we failed to find the back of the net in! Now that is piss poor by anyone’s standards! On saying that, there are some fans who think it’s not been too bad! Ha ha ha
I don’t know who bought the Charnock Richard site but “the club” didn’t buy the Euxton one off Bolton – Huron Properties did
Also, just coz it says Wigan Athletic on the planning permission it doesn’t mean that Wigan Athletic own the land at Charnock Richard. ‘ve put in planning applications where I used to work & it was always in the school’s name even though the land & buildings were owned by a charity who allowed the school use of the buildings for a peppercorn rent
HOW DARE YOU let facts get in the way of a good story/conspiracy theory/propaganda (delete as appropriate).
What were you thinking?
The club bought it as ‘Standish’ also pointed out! All I said was it was never going to be a Grade One Academy, never in a month of Sundays!
