You don’t mind managers when they get sacked but when they leave, well it’s like they walked into your house on Christmas day and pissed all over your dinner table whilst you were tucking into your turkey! :) Caldwell was clearly out of his depth and fortunately the chairman also saw that and acted before it got out of hand!

Straight-forward question. Who do you consider to be half decent.
Personally i would prefer someone to be DECENT as opposed to being half decent. Shame for GC as i would have liked him to turn it around. Still we move on!!![/quote]

Chairman albeit saying it was a tough decision has done what some of us ‘Darksiders’ have recently been suggesting! Well done for having the balls to do it, now get someone half decent in quick and let’s start getting the desired results!
The shooting has been atrocious in my view especially Jacobs! Shooting practice should be a big part of training but from what I have seen they don’t look like they do much!
‘Crackers’ as you call him was piss poor! Jordi should have started and I should have stayed at home and done something more productive !
1) To be fair lowey, possession style of football is way better than the kick long & hope for the best style of football. Possession football when played right can be very good to watch & the end product can be brilliant.2) Yesterday, however few chances we created, (& sometimes maybe give credit to the opposition for that) we are simply not taking those chances. Whichever style, formation or tactics a team sets out to play, football is about scoring one more goal than the opposition – which as i say we are not doing. Whether that is down to woeful shooting, an excellent save by the keeper, a shot just wide or hits the woodwork, the chances we are making are currently not being executed.
3) IMO we dominated that game up until they scored. That one goal simply knocked the stuffing out of us. I could see that & i am sure so could others.
4) Nick powell has been a disgrace (again IMO) since he returned to our club & i saw it as a blessing when he went off. Young byrne was brilliant when he came on. But if i had to name just one player who summed up the jonny big bollox in all of my 38 years watching latics, he would be it.
5) Following their goal, caldwell should have quickly changed his mind & subbed either power or perkins & put lefondre on with grigg (who looked p155ed at being subbed). I agree, bringing davies on – & no disrespect to him, meant there was no place for a game changer ie, gomez. I agree, that, he did get wrong.
6) Should we sack him. One word answer NO! IMO things just are not going right for us at the moment. We are playing ok, but as i said earlier, we need to start scoring. He has sorted us out defensively, but we now need to master the art of scoring goals & i do believe we will be alright once we have mastered that. I for one prefer caldwell’s style of football to that of bobby’s. Some might argue that it is entirely the same. Yes it is to a degree, but caldwell’s style is played at a quicker tempo. Bobby’s style bored me to tears.
& now, i await the backlash from the usual suspects ;)
If I am considered a usual suspect then so be it but I have said give him 3 maybe 4 more games to turn things around, and if things don’t improve then get rid because we will just end up in the same situation as last time we plied our trade in this division!
Like Sam Allardyce would consider “Little” Wigan even if we could afford to pay him. Dream On. !!The man who could and would have got us moving in the right direction has been snapped up by Cardiff.
There are no managers available with the nous and experience needed if GC was sacked – which he won’t be at the moment ‘cos he’s Sharpy’s mate.
Its similar to last seasons doom and gloom at this stage. However we were drawing games then before everything suddenly clicked into place and we started to dominaste and win games.
However this league is finding out some of the players – there are some big sides out there and Perkins looks like a 12 year old boy sometimes. Power is also struggling to adapt to this level. Wildshut when he plays is awful. Speed but nothing else. Powell?? Well if he was half as good as he thinks he is would be OK at best.I’d play Gomez every time.
GC needs to decide on a set team and system and stick with it. We need some stability.
If we get that then I’m sure things will improve and we will start to move up.Mid table at this point will do.
After 14 games last season we were 7th on 23 points! ;)
For me Caldwell is not (or should not) be in danger yet.This is an incredibly long season and we’re not quite 1/4 way through so a little early to be pulling the trigger IMHO.
That said, we do need to see real signs of progress pretty soon.
I reckon the key time will be the Derby home game on 3rd December. If we’re still in the bottom 3 after that game, then the manager’s position for me will be seriously in doubt.

We have passed the quarter way through mark and before we know it it will be halfway! Like I said, give him 3, maybe 4 more games and if things don’t improve get rid because otherwise we will go down!
Give him/them 3 more games and if there is no improvement then let them go because otherwise a gap will start to form and once that rot sets in it’s trouble!
To be fair, we DID create enough chances & played decent. One fluke goal (that could have gone anywhere) & confidence dropped after that.My only negative was when caldwell took off grigg following the goal. IMO he should have took power or perkins off & brought on lefondre alongside grigg.

Only decent chance fell to Burn ( or was it Jacobs? ) who had a shite game and he promptly hit it straight at the keeper from a few yards out whilst the keeper was prone on the floor, why he didn’t just loft it over him is beyond me!
