Well said Warrington. Some people can only see it from one side. We scored a goal against Bolton which was 2 yards off side. Rodders goes up EVERY TIME with his elbows out, could be a Red card but usually just a yellow. Just watched the WOLVES game HUNT ran and chased more in one half than the majority of our team, do in two games.
I feel that is so much wrong with the club from, Manager, Tactics, Team Morale, Calibre of Players. Back room staff, etc. Maybe I’m having a rant :x but I feel so disillusioned about what has happend over the last two years… I have been watching football for well over 50 years I had a season ticket at Everton from 1962-74 during that time I saw all of the GREAT teams and players, and when I didn’t go away, I would go to Bolton. Preston. Latics, When Wigan got into the league, I started to go regularly every week, home and away. I can honestly say That in all that time, I have never been as BORED watching football, as I have over the last two years. I am still waiting to see our Martinez’s “ATTACKING STYLE OF PLAY”
After the Wolves result I feel we now need to win both our games and I can’t see it happening.
and even then, we have to rely on both Wolves and Blackpool dropping points. Martinez’s quote at around Christmas ” I’m not bothered about the lack of goals”( If I had been the chairman I would have sacked him for that comment alone) may come back to haunt him.
Just read what I’ve wrote, and I was going to delete it, as the ramblings of an ‘old git’ but B0010CK5..

The way things are going, we may well need two wins, and even then it might not be enough :(

Only good thing to come out of today is that it possibly makes it even harder for West Ham

I would love to see West Ham go down but I wont take any delight if we go with them. :( :( :(

I think you’ll find they may have just started to try.

They have improved but lets be honest it wasn’t hard was it.

Fook Off West Brom not even trying.

Hold on guys..This is a full strength Latics team..Not been many changes over the last few games..If we cant beat teams like West Ham, Stoke and a very poor Villa side do we deserve to be in this league next year?
The gaffer can go about a good crop of young players, half of this team will be gone next year if we stay up or not..

Billlatic your right how good is our crop of young players??? not pulled up many trees have they. No doubt we have some good players Charlie by far the best but if the squad was as good as Bob says it is why are we in real danger of going down????

with the Premier League; which is essentially a four club league ? Don’t want to go down, but we might actually enjoy a lot more even contests in the Championship. We need four points now; but the first hurdle is the cheats. I fear the headlines: Spirit of 66 inspires Parker.

Anyway, chin up it’s little Wigan Vs the rest of the World; as usual.

Not sure we are against the rest of the world for once most true football fans will want us to beat the cheats.

Had to be a red card, if it had happened on the street he would have been up for assault.

I see the new media darling got away with an horendous foul on Bale, then within seconds is whinging because he didn’t get a free kick.

Holding the badge and punching tyhe air after missing a penalty after his team mate dove like a swan with the keeper pulling back and not getting within 6 inches of him…

Why do Latics not get those breaks.. oh yeah, we are not worthy.

Lets relegate the biggest cheats and save ourselves next week, come on.

Just seen the Charlie Adam challenge if it had been one of our players the referee would have had friction burns getting the red card out of his pocket. Let’s beat the Cheats and stay up and continue to upset the establishment.

                    Come on Wigan.

No mate, I know rag all about football.

Not doing much to dispel the myth that the Dark Side takes the arrogant and cocky high ground when it comes to the technical side of football, are we?

Still, no point you reading the rest of my original post is there as it doesn’t give you another opportunity to slag off the Martinez style of play, which is the only thing you’re remotely interested in?

Bigger picture my friend, bigger picture.

I never said you knew nothing about football I asked did you watch much football????

Neither West Ham or Wolves play Kick and Rush so perhaps you should read my post properly before spouting off.

The bigger picture for me is the fact that at the top level we will never be good enough to play the way Bob wants. Paul Jewell and Steve Bruce realised that and both made us hard to beat with a work ethic and making the best of what you have at your club.

Tyldesley Take the figures as an average post per game, not a grand total and it’s actually 11 – 2.

That aside, Christ knows what sort of company you keep and where you sit in the stadium if everyone you speak to is against Martinez and don’t think he’s up to it. Do you all meet up at a set point pre-match – under a large dark cloud somewhere?

Out of my mates, it’s a mixed bunch, as is where I sit in the West Stand. There are some of my mates who want Martinez sacked, but to explain, these particular people know feck-all about most things, and usually always make the wrong decisions on life. ;)

For me, the Dark Side are not more numerous, just more prone to reactionary comments, booing, jumping up and down shouting etc, so they are noticed. If those who support Martinez started standing up, applauding and shouting praise at him mid-game, them maybe they’d also be noticed. I’ll stand by my 50/50 assumption.

There is currently a straw-poll going on another thread, anti v pro.

I have now laid my weapon down, and am backing away slowly….

Standish I sit in the West Stand and I don’t know anyone who thinks that Bob is up to it. Admittedly I don’t know everyone in the West Stand but having sat there since the Stadium opened I speak to a lot of people.

Griff I would love us to be able to play football like Barcelona but common sense tells me that with our limited funds and club size that ain’t gonna happen.
And IMO that is where the problem lies we are never going to have the quality of player to play that way in the Premier League. It may work occasionally work but as our league position suggests it is only occasionally.

I didn’t say I expect us to play like Barcelona and neither did I say that style of play was the only reason I am more pro- than anti-Martinez.

And to be honest, playing more like FC Kick and Rush ain’t doing Wolves, Blackburn and West Ham a great deal of good, is it?[/quote]

Do you watch much football Griff???? because neither West Ham or Wolves play kick and rush. And even Blackburn since Big Head was sacked have been known to pass the ball. And may be there lies the problem because the better teams are better at it.

Difficult one this – I almost wrote a whole article on the subject for JayT to publish on the forum in response to the other thread but got side-tracked.

For me, it’s not quite so black or white, dark or light as simply being pro- or anti-Martinez. What exactly does that mean?

If being anti means you think he’s not good enough to manage our team and pro is the opposite, how exactly do you measure it? Maybe relegation would be the tipping point to make you anti, or for those who think we should be doing better than just premier league survival, not being in the top 10 might be the trigger, for example. For others, they are anti, I guess, simply because they don’t like the style of play that he favours.

For me, when I say that I am pro-Martinez, it goes beyond league position and winning football matches. I happen to like the way he tries to play football, though I appreciate that others don’t. It frustrates the life out of me at times when he refuses to budge from his Plan A, but I still like what Plan A is trying to achieve. I get that it might ultimately end in relegation this season but so what? It doesn’t make me an idiot for thinking that way, anymore than it means that the people who insist that playing 442 will solve all our ills are idiots.

I also like the fact that his time as manager of the team is coinciding with a period in which the club’s management seems to be trying to ensure the long-term financial stability of the club by not paying daft transfer fees and salaries across the board. He hasn’t thrown his toys out of the pram on this issue which some might say makes him a “yes” man; I prefer to think that it makes him someone who has bought into the long-term view of WAFC and not someone who is just looking to use it as a stepping stone to bigger and better things.

I don’t know whether Martinez will ever go on to become a great coach, but I am happy that he is being given the opportunity to try to learn and make his way at our club. Paul Ince, for one I reckon, would have given his eye teeth for the same amount of patience to have been shown to him at Blackburn.

When TyldesleyLatic says on the other thread that the ‘light’ side must hold their hands up and say Martinez isn’t good enough if we get relegated, I disagree. It all depends on the answer to the question: “good enough, for what”?

As my granny used to say: “That’ll be 50 quid, Wayne”. She also used to say: “It would make for a very boring world if we all thought the same way”
