It’s only now he has gone you realise what a good job and what a good team he had built

No its only shortsighted dicheads like you two that spends their time trying to find faults rather than seeing what a player or manager is trying to do.

When DW has been hounded out of the club and we cant find an investor willing to splash millions on us , i can hear everbody saying just the same.[/quote]

Short sighted dichead? I think not. Did you read what I put? can you read? I simply stated what a great job Steve Bruce did with very limited financial backing from DW. He took over from Hutchings when we looked doomed and saved us that year and next season he would have took us into Europe but for the sale of Heskey and Wilson.

Why am I a dichead for that post? please explain cause I don’t see it.

I agree with Faz – I don’t think we have a bad squad. I am worried if something happens to Hugo as we seem a bit light up front, but to be honest, playing 1 up front every game is fairly light anyway.

I am sure Whelan doesn’t want to go down on purpose, but, it is strange some of the things that have happened…£12M for Turner at Hull, but we get £6M (rising to £8M) – How is Turner £4M better?

        ….Crazy WAFC…

Our squad is the worst i’ve seen for many a year our Championship team would have murdered this team. We have sold quality and replaced them with shite Championship players who just are not good enough.

People keep saying there are worse teams in the Premiership than us?

        Who!!!!!

Just thought I would continue the debate on DW.

I mean the man has brought us from the bottom of the football league to the premier league, given us a new stadium to use, given us cheapest premiership football tickets in the land, put us on the football map, and all we do is moan.

Granted we were here before DW and will be here long after him but would we be where we are without him? probably not.

We are a selling club and it is frustrating at times. Wigan Athletic are in the premier league as it stands and that is down to one man and one man only.

All the Whelan out brigade need to ask would they sooner have a team in the premier league as a selling club or would you sooner have a team in the fourth tier of football as a selling club?

Please also consider that we are not an attractive proposition for an investor. Our crowds are pathetic and this was backed up by there being about 400 of us at Everton and having 13,000 home fans on against the premier league champions.

The problem you have is that the way he is running the club rightly or wrongly it has been done to death on here you will not get people to watch even if you let them in for free.

Selling all our assets replacing them with gash is not the way to increase your fan base. We averaged over 21000 first season then DW got greedy and hicked the prices up alot of people have not been since.

Also I would rather not get the cheapest ticket in the Premier League and watch a descent winning side!!!!

            A few thoughts:

1 Gomez – totally depressing to see so many on this board slating Gomez so early. The guy has got real ability, keeps possession, has good vision….what do we want instead??.. you listen to other teams fans, radio city yesterday etc they all can recognise what a good player he is so why have we got so many idiots who can’t – depressing?
            2. Figueroa – clueless, zero distribution skills, no ability to overlap and get forward, get him to Sunderland tomorrow…all I can say is that Edman must be poor…tell me why I am wrong
            3. Scotland – Agahahowa returns in a pub players guize….absolutely zero chance of making it at this level…painful to watch. Him and King are absolutely 100% the worst strikers in the Prem and we have them both :)
            4. Pollitt – great servant but he is shot….cant command the box, flapping at crosses….thanks Mike but time to become a coach not a player…come on tell me I am wrong
            5. Bobby – give him time, has made a major mistake in bringing in ‘zero respect Barrow’ but will turn it round …tactically we are going nowhere with 4,5,1 and the Scharner ‘experiment’ (forward???) yesterday was painful but keep the faith

I could go on but this has been cathartic after yesterday :D

I agree with everything you said except with regards to Gomez. No doubt he has ability or he would not have had such a good season last year at Swansea. But he ain’t looking Premiership class, the vision you talk about what vision? we don’t look like scoring and if you class keeping the ball as passing back to the centre half then he is doing ok.

The team is a poor premier league side and he does not stand out so draw your own conclusions!

For the last few weeks, or months, I’ve been calling Bruce not fit to burn. I’ve been saying let’s give the guy some bloody stick when he comes back, for the way he walked out, and came back for Cattermole.

But in all seriousness, my attitude has changed. Why? Well, I’ll tell you.

In all honesty, can you blame the guy for walking out? For starters, let’s go back to January. We had assembled a decent enough side, which really did have the ability to push on and make a bid for Europe. Then came the transfer window, and we ended up selling our centre-forward, Emile Heskey and our best midfielder, and possibly our best player, Wilson Palacios.
Rumour at the time had it that Bruce was not best happy about things, and that he and the chairman had differing opinons over certain things. How true that is, I don’t know. But I can imagine there being some truth in it.
I think it was March when we played Sunderland at their place. And beat them. I’m pretty sure that after the game, Niall Quinn had a few words in Bruce’s ear, basically saying “we’ve a new owner coming in…..loads of cash…the freedom to go out and build a side…..massive support….etc”, and naturally, Steve was interested.
No doubt, he had come to see Latics for what they are. A small club, with severe limitations. A club that whenever they get a decent player, they get sold for profit, putting the task of building a team, backward. he obviously weighed things up and came to the conclusion that “I’d be daft not to take the offer”.

And can anybody honestly blame him? I don’t. Not now.

True, he came back for Cattermole, endlessly pursuing him, much to our annoyance. But he knew in his heart of hearts, that we’d sell him. Furthermore, the player WANTED to go, and the reasons will be exactly the same as Bruce’s. He’ll have seen us as a ‘selling club’, with no real potential to grow, with that attitude. For a 21 year old midfielder, it’s not a good position to be in. He was offered the same conditions as Bruce had been tempted by, and naturally, he fancied it.

I would. So would you, if your totally honest.

So to sum up, I will NOT be booing either Bruce or Cattermole, as I don’t blame them for jumping ship. A sinking ship? Possibly. Certainly one that is struggling to sail in the financial waves of the Premiership. In fact, the only
thing I disagree with, what Bruce said, was his “Shopping at Harrods, rather than Tesco”.
In all honesty, I’d say it’s more a case of him shopping at the Trafford Centre, and us, Wigan, shopping at Home Bargain.

Spot on mate!!!! Although i’m always gutted when a manager leaves we should applaud Bruce for keeping us in the Prem for 2 years despite of DW.

It’s only now he has gone you realise what a good job and what a good team he had built.

I agree, Whelan out…..to be replaced by? Maybe we could find a local businessman to take us over and invest his money, whoever who owns Crusader Cabs or Wallpaper Supplies or one of our coach companies.

Aye, its great calling for Whelan’s head, lets find a bloke who’s got £20K in the bank to run the club…..we’d get really far then.

Don’t know what BobbysWigan personal vendetta against Whelan is all about, thats his business, but christ its boring

He just cares about our football club and can see the team being ripped to shreds and it hurts. We have been really lucky in that we have had 2 managers who had an eye for a player in Jewell and Bruce. They brought in nobodies and we have sold them for a hefty profit but we will get found out one year.

I for one quite like being in the Premiership and don’t agree that we would be better off going down. I want my club to be as good as it possibly can be but i’m not sure Whelan shares my dreams.

Sorry mate but he is the one real quality player we have at the club. He should be in the England squad as I rate him more highly than Foster and James. If not for his injuries he would still be at Liverpool and would be Englands number one no arguement.

I have been going to watch Wigan with my Dad for 30 plus years and can’t understand why people on hear have ago at our new fans.

Would we want our crowds back to 1200? I think not. We need to attract more fans as to be quite honest our crowds at times are enbarrassing.

So that means more glory hunters although supporting Wigan does not bring much glory. I would rather have new Wigan Athletic fans than watch the muppets walk round Wigan with there United, Liverpool and now City shirts.

Come on the people of Wigan we need your support at the DW.

                        No just honest.

We play with 5 in midfield when last year we played with 4 yet this year we are so easy to play against it’s frightening. We miss Cattermole badly and although not as good Brownie is the closest we have to that kind of player. Who in our current midfield is going to fight for every ball tackle and pressure the opposition? No one!!!!

Our midfield is rubbish and in my opinion Brownie would have played.

Bolton…do me a favour? Bearing in mind that Agent Megson paid something like £10m for that useless Elmander, I’d want £35m at least for Rodellega

Bolton’s money spends like anyone elses and the prices we get for our players nothing would surprise me.

If Bolton match DW’s valuation then he would sell him in a heart beat.

So lets not laugh as the way our squad has been sold off since January it certainly ain’t funny.

I have admittedly only seen him play against Wolves and Man U, but from what I have seen up to now, I can’t say I’m all that impressed.

He is a lightweight, a Championship player at best. Not particularly good at shooting, not powerful enough or accurate enough at passing and very, very slow.

                            Thoughts?

He couldn’t hold down a regular place last season, so he would stand no chance this season.

Out of all our midfield players I would put him ahead of Ben Watson only.

Didn’t play last season because we had Cattermole and Palacios who have we got this season?

Our midfield is absolute gash Koumas, Gomez, Watson, Thomas and Diame who are in a new country and will take time to settle in would keep Brownie out?

The wrong side of 30 he may be and yes the legs had gone but I would have picked him before any of the above because at least he gave 100% and seemed to care.

I was a bit shocked but have since spoken to a few people who are of the same opinion that the money from our corporate guests programme sales etc goes to Whelco holdings and not the club?

Has anyone else heard that one?

Sorry but I’m not sure your calculations are right. I saw an interview with DW and he said that the prem had that much money they and us should be letting fans in for free? We made 35 mill from T.V. alone last year and sold at least 18 mill worth of players thats 53 mill without all the other money you get from being in the Prem.

It does not cost that much to run Wigan Athletic we have a tiny squad and a small set up so were does 53 mill or more go? He has never spent big money on players he got lucky with good managers who got him Premier League football on a tiny budget. And with his policy of selling our fan base instead of growing will get smaller.
